Stopped by for yarn for a scarf I'm making for my best friend for Christmas. New Orleans is one of her favorite places so I think yarn from the area will make the scarf that much more special. I searched for a yarn shop in NOLA but this one was the only shop that interested me. So it will be yarn from "near New Orleans" =) I believe that the owner was there when my husband and I stopped by yesterday. We were greeted immediately and enthusiastically by a beautiful little Sheltie and then by the owner soon after. She was very helpful. I had previously written down options for the pattern I'm using and she helped my find exactly what I need. While she wound my yarn we looked around and tried to befriend her dog (unsuccessful). This shop is pretty nice. It is in an old building, is well-lit, and is well stocked. Prices are comparable to prices I've seen at other local yarn stores. I would definitely recommend McNeedle's and would definitely shop here often if I lived in the area. read more

I travel all over and have been to yarn stores everywhere. McNeedles is by far my very favorite store to take care of my yarny needs! Their selection is varied and extensive. They carry all price points but never any cheap quality yarn one could find at a big box store. So much temptation every time you walk in the door! The staff is all so friendly and knowledgeable. They are always able and willing to give an opinion, help get you out of a tough spot on your current challenge, or help select that perfect project. Although I live too far away to attend any of the monthly class offerings, I have attended the annual Yarnover event where they bring in a big name designer/teacher for the weekend. That event is totally awesome and what makes it so wonderful is Pam and her team going above and beyond !! Unlike the LYSs that come and go, this one is here to stay! What is the difference, you ask? Pam, the owner, not only is passionate about her knitting and fine yarns, but she runs her store like a business verses a hobby. Go ahead...visit McNeedles...you'll see for yourself! read more

Visited during my last NOLA trip. Loved it. Perfect LYS. Great service, great selection of yarns, I browsed for about an hour before dropping nearly $100 on "souvenir" yarn. Can't wait to visit again, and I will, despite living 20 hours away. read more

I am so glad I came to McNeedles for knitting lessons. Maria's explanations, examples, and guidance really helped me to be successful. Her advice about projects, yarns, and notions is spot on. Also, she is smart and fun to talk to -- kind of a big deal when you're hanging around knitting with somebody for a couple of hours. read more

This is an amazing little yarn shop not far from New Orleans (just a few minutes away!). Visiting south Mississippi from a big city out of state that has a zillion gorgeous yarn shops, I was looking for a place to by quality yarn but was afraid all I'd find was the yarn aisle at Walmart. I hopped on highway 10, and in 20 or 30 minutes I found this gem of a store! The owner has stocked it with gorgeous yarns and doo-dads any serious or newbie knitter would be thrilled to touch and experience. I'm in the area for two weeks and might need to buy another suitcase to bring back all the beautiful things I found there. The very accomplished teachers are always there to help. I moved to covington 18 months ago. My local yarn shop? Not any more. I went there today for a sale they were having. When I walked in there was a sign on a table that said "Buy One Get One Free". I picked up a couple of skeins. As I was making a final pass through before checking out I noticed that they had changed the sign to "Buy One Get One 50% Off". A very different price and they were not planning on honoring the original sign for those who saw that pricing. In the past I was willing to overlook the cliquishness of the people who work there as I have experienced other instances of poor business practices. This was the last straw. I put back the skeins and bought nothing. I will go into New Orleans to support those local yarn shops. read more

I have shopped at McNeedles for years, and although I find them overpriced, I don't mind paying a bit more to support local businesses. However, today may have been the last time I shop there. I went this morning to shop their sale, and was elated to find that some of my favorites were buy one, get one free! I had a bag full of yarn I was planning on purchasing when I saw them pull the signs and replace them with buy one, get one 50% off. This was while they had customers in the store, and they weren't going to honor the original sale price. This struck me as especially slimy and cheap, especially since they were obviously finished setting up when I walked in the door. The owner must have just changed her mind at the last minute and decided she didn't want to let yarn go that cheap. I was so disgusted, I put all of my yarn back and left. Next time I need yarn, I will definitely order it online or make the drive to New Orleans to the much better yarn stores over there. read more
