I rarely give any Michaels a perfect rating, but this one deserves one. Michaels generally takes me forever to find something. It's huge and not every one has the same layout. I decided to check this one out while I was in Apple Valley. I had parked by Bed Bath & Beyond next door. There is plenty of parking at this plaza with a bunch of box stores. I wanted to check out the calligraphy section. Where on Earth was it? There was a woman staffer nearby, but she ended up helping someone else who flagged her. An older male staff associate was heading towards me. Yes! I asked him where I could find the calligraphy section. He was a saint. He led me over to aisle 50 himself. He didn't toss a random number at me. He made sure that I got to the aisle that I needed. All things calligraphy was right in front of both of us. I thanked him. I never caught his name, but he was awesome! I spent the longest time trying to figure out what I wanted. I thought that it would be good to practice my calligraphy on this trip, be it to unwind after a day out or on the plane to keep me occupied. The first calligraphy pen that I ever used was a green Elegant Writer felt-tipped one. It's perfect because you don't need to worry about a pen that has nibs or needs ink. I ended up with a four-pack with varying nib sizes. Perfect! There was also a sale on journals and sketchbooks. I got a blue one with a built-in elastic to close your book up when you're not using it. It was $2 off. Whenever I walk into a Michaels, I have the urge to relearn how to crochet. One of these days, I'll get back to it. It seems like the perfect activity to do when it's cold and snowy outside. Yarn. I love the colours and textures offered at this store. From chenille to fine baby yarn, you can find it all here. I learned about donut yarn, which has a bunch of different colours on it. Its donut shape prevents tangles and allows you to select the colour that you want to use quickly. It intrigued me. I'm so used to getting skeins of yarn that seeing a donut version was cool. I dropped by before Christmas, so there were many Christmas decor ideas, such as pillows and countdown calendars. There were some pretty good prices. Many items were discounted by 50%. I headed to pay for my items. There were two folks in front of me. I paid for my items with a credit card and had no issues. I got my items in a bag, thanked the woman, and happily left the store. I have since used my calligraphy pens to practise in my journal. It's therapeutic and fun. I'm so glad that I visited this store to get what I needed. (493)

This store is sadly closing or permanently closing! Before Memorial Day Wkd 2025, there was a sign…read moresaying 4 days more ... and prior to that, hours had been inconsistent and remaining employees were stretched thin. The store has become more disheveled as stock sold out, but employees did try to help customers find craft supplies (and fabrics) they wanted for good prices and keep things organized. This was a difficult and demanding situation beyond their control. But - original point. Joann's is most likely permanently closed! But, there are other great resources for crafters nearby .... Saver's is next door (quirky treasure hunt!), Target, Michael's, Aldi, Walmart, and Five Below are also in range. Beyond that ... there are local sellers with listings and other specialty shops.

My Grandson needed to use the bathroom but he couldn't it was so disgusting. Toilet had fecal matter in and around it, the smell was awful and so many flies perfect environment for flies to lay eggs. There was also clothing laying in the men's restroom. He took video and made an employee watch it and asked if they use the bathrooms and if so how can they let them be so filthy? She notified a manager and I called corporate. I realize it's hard to find help but for a Manager to be ok with this is beyond belief

The Apple Valley is our go to store for our birthday balloons…read more We've always been happy with our purchases, until now. We went yesterday to get the premium numbers set (2 number balloons and 12 latex) for our son's birthday today. Only 5 of the 12 are still semi floating and could be salvaged. The other 7 didn't float at all and we discarded them. The numbers are fine Next time we might go to Cub or Walmart and pay half of what we paid and threw away. Very disappointed!

I recently went to this location to get helium filled for some balloons I had already purchased…read more This was my first time buying helium and the only place I could think of that would fill helium was this store. Luckily there was one near me! Backstory: I purchased balloons elsewhere for about $5 each - as Party City was selling the exact same kinds for $11.99. I thought I was making a more affordable decision by pre-buying balloons and getting them filled here. When I got to the store, it was just like any other Party City - large and filled with lots of items you would probably only use once or twice in your life. No big deal though. There were two people ahead of me and I felt like the service was incredibly slow. Granted, there was a young kid that was working and they were the only ones at the register. That wouldn't have been a big deal except for the fact that when it was finally my turn (10 mins later) the kid stated that the price to fill my 2 balloons was $20! I guess I didn't realize how expensive helium was. I also asked if helium was included if you purchased from the store and they stated "it depends on the balloon." Not too helpful , but something to make note of for next time. After I paid, the kid told me they would fill my balloons after helping the other customers in line. Didn't make a whole lot of sense but okay! I ended up waiting an additional 10 mins as the worker helped the remainder of the customers. What should have been a quick 5 min trip easily became 20...when the balloons could have been filled when I purchased them. Not sure this is common practice at Party City but it would make sense to serve each customer in line in order and not sporadically.
