It looks like the menu changes from time to time and the blackboard showed a selection of dishes and starters. There were two meat options for main, those being chicken or pork, with another two vegetarian options. I chose the pork to go along with my Pinot noir and my wife had the grilled asparagus. The pork was roasted and very nice. Peas and broad beans accompanied along with a minty salsa verde. The winner of lunch however was the goats curd on my wife's plate. It was amazing! I would recommend this place and definitely come back. That said, there are many many options in the area. Booking ahead is a must. There are several 2/4 person tables and a couple of long tables. Walk-ins seem to get seated at the long tables. Groups are catered for and on the day we were there, there was a party group downstairs among the oak barrels.

Word of warning, the Google Maps GPS directions will take you astray if not careful.

The new owners Simon & Lee have managed to keep everything that was great (local produce, beautiful setting) and make it better than ever. With a wonderful energy and zeal for outstanding customer service they make you feel like a close friend who's been invited to their estate to share good times and great food (did I mention the pizza is our all time favorite). Starting off with two sheep loving brothers, a family fight and the untimely death of one brother the winery has had tumultuous history. I won't spoil it all for you but during it's impressive life the winery has been alone, a treasured member of an elite wine family and generally flowing from one big corporation to another. This hasn't stopped the good quality and high selection of wine rolling out the cellar doors. Highlights from the cellar include a sparkling Shiraz and an honest selection of sparkling whites. These whites are made from original vines brought over from France in the late 1800s! Historical highlights- the (then called) champagne was served during the 1901 celebration of the federation of Australia. One of the vineyard owners, Hans Irvine was elected to the Victorian Parliament. Through a few ingenious donations he had the train line go through a small edge of his property, allowing him to build his own private train stop. The cellar drives were built by unemployed miners. Who were paid by the owners to dog the cellars out by hand. The cellar door offers an impressive selection of wines to taste.

The rose is easily the best in the area, the Chardonnay the same. Several levels of Shiraz are simply extraordinary. These are wines of rare quality. We almost didn't come here. The prices had us worried. But, there is truly something here for everyone now as a range of lower price wines has been added and they're affordable for everyone. This is a great winery. I left with four bottles, my friends right and two respectively. A tasting here is a a rare and humbling experience. It's a reminder of how great Australian wine can be.
