History
Established in 1979.
Established in 1969, Taltarni Vineyards is one of the pioneering wineries of Victoria's Pyrenees wine region. Owner John Goelet, a direct descendant of the Guestier wine merchant family of Bordeaux, discovered and purchased Taltarni Vineyard after conducting a worldwide search for a site comparable to the great vineyards of Bordeaux.
Initial plantings were of Bordeaux varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Shortly thereafter, Taltarni extended its plantings to encompass Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Shiraz as well as Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, enabling us to now showcase a diverse portfolio of sparkling, red and white wines.
We are proud to be implementing environmentally friendly practices that will ensure the quality of our grapes, and the sustainability of our environment. Taltarni produces wines of elegance and balance that uniquely express the terroir of the picturesque Pyrenees wine region.
Meet the Manager: Robert H.
Growing up in Victoria's Western District, Robert found a keen interest in agriculture by working on farms in the local region during school holidays. After completing secondary school, he left the comforts of home to explore the world, and what he discovered in his travels throughout the UK and Europe was a love of wine.
Always one to look a little deeper, this 'thirst' for knowledge saw Robert embark on studies in Viticulture and Wine-Making when he returned home from his gap year abroad. Robert's professional experience has taken him from the warm, continental climate of the Barossa Valley, to the cooler, oceanic temps of Bordeaux's St Emillon and the sunny, diverse microclimates of California's Napa Valley.
What Robert discovered throughout this global adventure was just how important the quality of fruit is when producing the very best possible wine. He also discovered, after many nights with good friends, just how much he has an appreciation for well-made wine.
