On 1/9/2026, at around 1:40pm ET, I had one of the *single worst customer service encounters at in…read moremy 55 years alive* The manager of the store, Joshua , who was the tech we interacted with was rude and unprofessional, to such a degree that I hope his area manager will investigate how he treats other customers and his colleagues. Here's what happened, as objectively as I can describe it: My 20 year old daughter and I arrived at this Valvoline location to get her an oil change before she heard back to school. She was driving and I was the passenger. I had purchased a Groupon for the oil change and didn't realize that the Groupon was potentially location specific (the voucher had an address for a location in Hampton VA included on it). I had saved the voucher to my Google wallet, and when Joshua tried to scan it, it didn't work. He immediately started telling his team to stop their work. I looked at him and said "Can you give me a minute?" That is literally all I said.My tone was normal, neither rude or confrontational. I just wanted to see if I could figure out what was going on with the Groupon. In the blink of an eye, Joshua turns to the employee in front of the vehiclenand tells them to close the hood, as we won't be getting an oil change. In disbelief, I started saying, loudly, "Are you serious? I literally said 'can you give me a minute?' that's all I said!!" Joshua replied with " you're being rude, you won't be getting an oil change here today". I replied with "You have no idea the lengths I will go to to hold a grudge." And I mean that. This review is just the first step in the personal campaign I will now pursue to see Joshua relieved of his duties as a manager at Valvoline, as he clearly isn't well suited for dealing with customers. Epilogue: After leaving this Valvoline, we drove down Midlothian turnpike to their location on Midlothian turnpike across from Chesterfield Town center. I explained to the tech there that we have a Groupon and explained the address issue on the voucher that I described above. He said he would be happy to help us see if we can figure it out. He tried scanning the voucher saved to my Google wallet and it didn't work, which wasn't a surprise. He said "It's just coming up as zeroes" which made me realize maybe it's a Google wallet issue -- so I opened the Groupon app, pulled up the voucher in it, and it worked fine ( with the store address not being an issue at all). If Joshua has just given me the ONE MINUTE I requested to try pulling up the voucher in the Groupon app, there wouldn't have been any problem at all. Joshua- I hope you see this. And the review I'm going to leave on Google. And the letter I'm going to send to Valvoline corporate. I have been a very happy customer of Valvoline for many years, at many locations. YOU shouldn't be representing their business, and I have a hunch that if today is an indication of how you treat customers, you won't be for very long. Services Oil change

Since they did not complete the service I said I should not have to pay for it. They would not let me leave, I was in the garage, with the doors shut, I felt intimidated so I paid so I could get out of there. Had to drive directly to Toyota dealership to see if my truck was even safe to drive. I contacted Valvoline corporate the same day and they stated I would be contacted with 2 business days, that was now over a week ago with no contact. I would leave no stars if possible. I called around to a few places to find a place that worked on diesel cars and they said they did. When I showed up there was lots of confusion about my car. Wrong parts were used and eventually they determined they didn't have the part my car needed. I was advised to come back the next day, still no part. Day 3 at first they told me they didn't have the part then a second person came to correct the first so I was finally able to get my oil change. I thought everything was good until I went to get my car inspected...something was wrong with my car. Wrong filter and I had an oil leak (I'm not a car person but I'm pretty sure that was it). So I had to take my car to VW to get the work done correctly. This place was a waste if my time and money. I would never return.

I pulled in and was immediately greeted by a tech to tell me which lane to go in. I only had waited about 5 minutes until the car in front of me was done. I pulled in and the tech was super friendly. I asked a lot of questions and he answered all of them. I believe his name was Nathan and he was one of the assistant managers. I literally sat in my car the whole time and was in and out literally in 10-15 minutes!! They don't just do oil changes, he checked all of my lights, horn, signals etc. Also, if you are a first time customer, you get $5 off! I'm glad I stumbled across this place because I will definitely be coming back!! *This place is also Veteran owned and operated, much respect!*

The rates are reasonable, especially using the Firestone card, they're polite and helpful, and I feel like everyone knows your name there. They've worked on a variety of cars for me, ranging from a Toyota to a Volvo to a Subaru, and have always done a great job. They've also been honest about repairs. The only problem is this: they're always super-busy, which is good for them, but bad for someone who forgets to make appointments!

So, I scheduled the work and planned to take lunch while waiting on the truck. I confirmed with the gentleman that checked me in at just before 11AM that it would be about an hour and his exact reply was "Yes, about that". I gave him my cell phone and told him I was going to walk up the road. I walked a few blocks to a spot to eat and returned at noon to find that the truck had not moved since I parked it. The young lady said she would check on it and confirmed that I had an 11AM appointment and said they would get to it ASAP. I waited a couple of minutes and noticed that the truck still had not moved. I then asked for my key and left. I never received and apology or any other response, other than my truck was up front with the key in it. I am a small business owner, and like most people, I don't have time to be jerked around. I will happily pay more somewhere else to someone who values my business and time.

I ordered the part from the dealership and Christian Brothers fixed it right away. I was a bit anxious since the part had to be ordered and then go to a body shop to paint and Ashley from CB was extremely patient with me and made sure they received the part from Hyundai and even called me the morning of my appointment to make sure I ordered all the parts for the repair. The mechanic Judson was very thorough; even the handle went on he wanted to make sure it was on tight and took the entire door off to reinforce it. I am so pleased with CB that I think my daughter should bring her car their for any maintenance and repairs and forget about the Hyundai Dealership. Also I thought their prices were very fair. Ashely was so kind to offer me water and gave me a rose when I paid. How nice is that?

Very friendly and courteous. Very nice waiting area and 'free' Christian Brothers branded water bottles. Most people understand 'free' things are not actually free . . . that includes the water bottles and 'free' courtesy shuttles. I took my 2010 Mustang there to have the rear brakes repaired - due to a frozen caliper. The 'Diagnostic Test' was $165, which I paid and then took my car out of there as fast as I could. The cost quoted for repair was ludicrous, so I asked if I could supply the parts (I am a former Auto Parts Manager, so am comfortable with this) - they said sure - the quote for just the labor . . . $631.91. Note - the book time for this is 1-1.5 hours. I declined and took it to another shop . . . $280 for labor and that is where the work was done. As mentioned in some other reviews, the 'free' (there's that word again) 'courtesy inspection' came up with every conceivable 'flush/fill' and things like Spark Plug replacement ("due to age of vehicle") even though I replaced them myself a month ago. Total for all the 'courtesy inspection' items . . . ready . . . ready . . . $8,255.59. How about a few more examples: Replace License Plate Light Bulb ($74.50) - I actually just took care of this myself before sitting to write this review ($15 for the pair and about 10 minutes taking my time), Replace Front Struts (parts cost $250 and labor book time 1.2 to 1.6 hours for both sides) . . . $1,456.38. Replace Cabin Air Filter (part cost $15 - labor book time 0.2 to 0.3 hours or 10-15 minutes) . . . $132. Replace valve cover gaskets (part cost $20, labor time 1.5 to 2.5 hours) . . . $632.20. You get the idea. Outrageous pricing . . . but the 'free' bottle of ice-cold water was excellent!
