They also immediately emailed my x-rays to me when I requested them. The wi-fi in their office worked really well, and they have a sign with the password. The online patient portal was also easy to use, and they are good about communicating appointments. They also send plenty of text message as reminders of appointments. They are conveniently located right off of 620 behind St. David's Round Rock Medical Center hospital. I recommend OACT if you need an orthopedic specialist.

My PCP called Dr. Valastro's office after I complained to her about it and her office told me they didn't get a response from him or his nurse either. Ironically, I called to cancel my appointment and let them know I'm switching to a doctor who will help me and their system hung up on me after about 10 seconds. A doctor (and nurses) who aren't there to answer any questions or help me find and correctly use assistive devices they prescribe are not worth seeing in my book.

Szerlip rushed into the room, seemed totally uninterested in explaining what might be the problem, and recommended Physical Therapy. He rushed out without giving much chance to ask any questions. After a month of physical therapy with no improvement, I went back and again Szerlip was running an hour behind schedule. Even though I had to wait all this time, he was very rushed when I saw him. He recommended an MRI for the shoulder - the results showed nothing structurally wrong with the shoulder. He said there was nothing he could do. He implied I was a wimp for coming in at all. He flatly told me that I would have to pick up the prescription at his office (200 miles) because his office did not want to buy the licencing to call in the prescription to a pharmacy in Austin. What followed was a mess of contradictory diagnoses and complete misinformation that could've cost me the full use of my arm. **First visit (day after injury):I was told not to wear a sling, "go live your life." **Second visit (after MRI):Suddenly, it was keep your arm in a sling for 2 weeks, do PT, and it "should heal on its own because you're young and healthy." **Third visit (2.5 weeks later): Now it was an emergency -- I "needed surgery immediately" or I'd "never regain range of motion." The inconsistencies were not just confusing -- they were dangerous. He also assured me I'd be typing 2 weeks post-op and using my arm by week 4. Total fiction. He never reviewed my actual MRI images with me and instead based his diagnosis solely on the radiology report. A second doctor later reviewed the images directly and found the report to be misleading. Had this surgeon taken the time to look at the images himself, surgery may have been recommended much earlier, potentially improving my outcome. Thankfully, I got a second opinion from a highly respected orthopedic surgeon with extensive experience treating professional athletes, including those in the NHL who was shocked at what I was told. He confirmed I had a complete biceps tendon tear, a subscapularis tear, and fracture -- none of which would have healed without surgery and 6 months of structured physical therapy. Post-op with the correct doctor, I wasn't allowed to move my arm for 2 weeks, stayed in a sling for 6 weeks and only began very limited motion by week 7. This is the real protocol for a severe shoulder injury -- not the fantasy timeline I was given. Bottom line: This office gave me three completely different treatment plans in under three weeks, misled me about my condition, and grossly misrepresented recovery. I would not trust this surgeon with anything, let alone a serious injury. Get a second opinion -- your mobility and long-term health depend on it.

I was asked every day by doctors and nurses if I had any pain. They said this was very unusual compared to other patients with the same procedure.
