During our conversation, you advised me that you would speak with a Dr. Michael Czeschin, DMD at the practice and get back to me regarding my concerns. I am writing to respectfully follow up, as I have not yet received a response. I am requesting reimbursement for the $300 I paid out of pocket for my recent visit. My concern is primarily the lack of communication regarding the visit being treated as a patient-pay expense. Had I been informed of this in advance, I would have had the opportunity to make an informed decision about whether to proceed with the appointment. I understand that patients with in-network insurance benefit from negotiated rates between their insurance providers and the dental practice. I also specifically asked on August 5 whether a reduced rate could be considered, but I did not receive a response to that question. I believe it is important for patients to be informed of their financial responsibility before services are provided, particularly when a visit will not be processed through insurance as the patient may reasonably expect. In my experience with healthcare providers, insurance information and expected patient responsibility are typically confirmed before treatment. I have been a loyal patient of South Hampton Dentistry for many years and have always valued the quality of care I have received, particularly from your hygienist. Had the circumstances been communicated to me beforehand, I would have been willing to discuss a self-pay arrangement and would have continued receiving care at your practice. I hope South Hampton Dentistry will take these circumstances into consideration and work with me toward a fair and reasonable resolution. This was the first dentist (or doctor of any kind) that provided this kind of transparency in billing. My dental hygienist, Jeanie, was very kind and patient with me. She also helped me out with my dental hygiene by teaching me better ways to floss and brush my teeth. Dr. Allen himself was knowledgeable and took great care of me. I have been back, for some fillings, and the estimate that was provided me on how long it would take was spot on. Dr. Allen did a great job explaining the process to me and did such a great job I was in no pain afterwards.

From the moment I scheduled on the phone (they got me in within 2 days), to the waiting room (I waited 10 min max), to the dentist and pictures, I was completely impressed. The dentist (the youngest guy) listened to everything I had to say, joked with me and reassured me they'd figure out the problem. Coming from a "traditional x-ray" place, I was amazed at the technology here with digital images of my mouth that I COULD SEE and the 3D imaging of my entire mouth that he let me look at. The hygienist was also very nice although she didn't need to do much in my case. The dentist poked and prodded to help pinpoint the problem. In the end, I left pissed at my previous dentist as I now need a root canal (gasp! My first dental work in 30 years!) Now, at one point in my life my dad made me wear a mouthpiece to protect my teeth during everything. They were the most prized family possession: all those trips to the ortho, turns of the key to widen the jaw, retainer after retainer. A ROOT CANAL on the family treasure?! I was terrified despite being a regular and generally loving going to the dentist. The day of the procedure he reassured me of my feelings, "yep, they are no fun," and proceeded to start. As far as root canals go, I think this one went pretty well. They seemed very thorough and knowledgeable on the RC. The molar took a little over 2 hours, including getting the final crown (which they make at the location during the procedure). Total cost before insurance was about $2k. I immediately made an appointment for my next cleaning and gave a big finger to the previous dentist!

I only waited a few minutes & was able to walk in, fill out my paperwork. I have been twice now & every person I have come in contact with from hygienists to my dentist made me feel welcomed & comfortable. The smells of the office, the pain, the condescending remarks about my teeth, the anxiety about where the money will come from. Anything and everything about even considering visiting a dentist makes me want to take a double dose of xanax. It took me a few days to finally call but when I did I was surprised that i was almost immediately put at ease by the incredibly kind receptionist. I briefly told her my concerns and the level of anxiety I generally have and she actually listened, took note and genuinely seemed to care. This morning I woke up 4 hours before my appointment due to an already increased build up of anxiety. It turns out none of this anxiety was necessary. After sitting in the waiting room for only about 5 minutes I was brought back to the exam room by the dental hygienist. I can not remember her name but she was so sweet and kind. Then Dr. Hanko came in and since she knew how anxious I was, instead of getting straight to work she sat down next to the chair and asked me to tell her about my self, what my concerns with my teeth are and what she could do to make my appointments easier. When I was giving her my information she listened, asked questions when necessary and not once made me feel judged. Then she asked if she could take a look in my mouth. Part way through her examining my teeth I realized for the first time ever I was sitting in a dentist chair and NOT shaking with anxiety. The lovely receptionist, Judy, couldn't have been nicer. Dr. Vitale identified the issue, patiently explained what was going on and how to address it long-term, and treated it immediately without trying to push for any unnecessary procedures. I have a little bit of a dentist phobia after a terrible experience a few years ago, but Dr. Vitale was extremely gentle. I went in expecting the worst from this situation but came away having had a really positive experience. I will definitely plan on returning for cleanings/checkups and any other future dental needs.
