Dr. R. struck me as a bit of an oddball when I first met him--almost overly cheerful. Over time, though, that demeanor seemed to fade. I never felt like my dental needs were truly being addressed; it often felt more like my teeth were being prepped for future repairs. Then came a visit where he told me I needed a root canal on a healthy tooth. At the time, I didn't question his opinion, but I had my doubts. My understanding is that root canals are typically necessary when a tooth is significantly compromised. At my most recent visit, a molar cracked, and I immediately had that sinking feeling: "root canal." I was right. When I told him I wasn't on board, he simply stood there tapping his foot, waiting for me to give in. I told him I would be seeking a second opinion--and that's exactly what I did. My new dentist confirmed that a root canal was not necessary, as the tooth was still healthy. Unfortunately, that experience caused me to lose all trust.

From the moment I scheduled on the phone (they got me in within 2 days), to the waiting room (I waited 10 min max), to the dentist and pictures, I was completely impressed. The dentist (the youngest guy) listened to everything I had to say, joked with me and reassured me they'd figure out the problem. Coming from a "traditional x-ray" place, I was amazed at the technology here with digital images of my mouth that I COULD SEE and the 3D imaging of my entire mouth that he let me look at. The hygienist was also very nice although she didn't need to do much in my case. The dentist poked and prodded to help pinpoint the problem. In the end, I left pissed at my previous dentist as I now need a root canal (gasp! My first dental work in 30 years!) Now, at one point in my life my dad made me wear a mouthpiece to protect my teeth during everything. They were the most prized family possession: all those trips to the ortho, turns of the key to widen the jaw, retainer after retainer. A ROOT CANAL on the family treasure?! I was terrified despite being a regular and generally loving going to the dentist. The day of the procedure he reassured me of my feelings, "yep, they are no fun," and proceeded to start. As far as root canals go, I think this one went pretty well. They seemed very thorough and knowledgeable on the RC. The molar took a little over 2 hours, including getting the final crown (which they make at the location during the procedure). Total cost before insurance was about $2k. I immediately made an appointment for my next cleaning and gave a big finger to the previous dentist!

Upon arriving, the receptionists greeted me warmly and the office was clean and welcoming. (Parking is limited to a tiny lot or street parking, which I did not like, but there's not much they can do about that.) The technician who took me back for x-rays (Keya?) was INCREDIBLY nice to me which I really appreciated. I was very nervous and she was calm, gentle, and helped to make me feel more comfortable. I was so grateful for her. Then, the highlight of the entire visit: I met Dr. Margaree Lachowiez. I cannot recommend Dr. L enough. She made me feel incredibly safe in an environment that usually causes me a lot of anxiety. She is kind, knowledgeable, and charming. Beyond that, she really takes pride in her work and takes the time to do it right. After the dentist I'd seen all my life retired, I had a difficult time finding someone to replace him. I'm happy to say that now I have. Dr. Lachowiez will be my dentist from now on. Dental work is expensive, but they go over the entire breakdown of costs with you so there are no surprises. Everyone I met there was friendly and welcoming. I wish I could remember everyone's name, but I honestly have nothing negative to say about anyone there. The one mark against them: My husband had an appointment with Dr. L. and went in only to discover she is now at their other office, Ballwin Modern Dentistry (also a nice office).
