I don't get the bad reviews here. Dr. Muul is very professional and takes his time answering questions in a calm, patient way. If you're looking for someone that will be honest, straight to the point, and give you a quick and painless procedure, then Dr. Muul is your guy! I had all my wisdom teeth removed years ago. I was worried, and it was over before I knew it started. Since then, I've gone back twice for growths on my gums. For my most recent visit, the growth was much bigger than before and I really thought it was going to be a terrible procedure. Dr. Muul explained everything that was going to happen. He could tell that I was nervous and said he was going to 'test' the novocaine. But, literally 2 minutes later, it was all done. He gave me an Rx for a one week supply of pain medication, but it was done so well, that I hardly felt a thing even when the novocaine wore off and the days afterward. I never had any complications at all and it healed as if nothing had ever been there. When I returned for a final check-up and care instructions, at my request, he also looked at my x-rays from a new dentist I had gone to and gave me a second opinion on the need for a nightguard. Although he does sell nightguards, he said my dentist should be able to do it, but if they could not, he would be able to help. I strongly endorse Dr. Muul! read more

I was referred to Dr Muul bc he accepts my insurance but would never have picked him otherwise. I was extremely nervous and expressed this to his staff and to him directly but no one seemed to care. Dr. Muul had no bedside manner...he wasn't friendly...or personable and certainly didn't do anything to alleviate my fears or nervousness. He just began discussing my X-ray. I will say that it was a relatively painless procedure(so thumbs up for that) but he didn't take note to the fact that my breathing was labored, my chest was heaving and I was stiff as a board with fear because I had no idea what was happening. I began crying the second I confirmed that he was done and he told me to have a good day without hardly glancing in my direction because he was already talking to the assistant about the next patient. I was asked to fill out a comment card and didn't feel very comfortable actually writing all of this but realize that I should let people know that if they are the types(like myself) who need a bit of kindness and some hand holding when it relates to the dentist/dental procedures...this is probably not the office for you. Are they professional...yes...very! Did I feel the doctor was competent...absolutely...he did a good job and I didn't feel pain at all. The good and the bad...I felt I should share. read more

I was nervous going in but Dr Michael Muul and his staff made me feel comfortable with Dr. Muul's knowledge and experience and his helpful friendly staff I was able to feel more relaxed. I went to Dr. Muul a couple of years ago for a wisdom tooth extraction. My dentist had referred me to him - no slicing and dicing necessary, they just recommended an oral surgeon due to the length of the root and its proximity to a nerve. The care was perfectly fine - I was numbed up, done, and used laughing gas as an option (not covered by insurance and they are very upfront about extra cost). I would be okay with using him again in the future, except ... ... As I keep hearing more and more about the opioid crisis in our country, I felt obligated to write about my experience here. I received a prescription for 20 pills of Vicodin for post-procedure pain. I used less than 5 - I can handle some pain but I'm not notably stoic or anything, clearly 20 was too many to prescribe. I called the office to explain my concern about the prescribing practices - I'm not exaggerating when I say this is usually how opioid addictions (which become heroin addictions) start. I could practically hear the receptionist's eyes roll as she said it was a "doctor decision." No offer to explain why or have me talk to Dr. Muul myself. I wish Dr. Muul had more stringent policies for how he prescribes opioids, then I would be able to recommend him without reservation. Quite frankly, if someone needed more than 10 of these pills to manage the pain from this procedure, there was probably some kind of complication that needed to be looked at further. I mixed the extra pills in with my cat's used litter and threw them away. If you do use him, I'd have him write a prescription for about half of what he recommends at first (For me, 10 would still have been more than twice as many as I needed, but not more than quadruple, at least). Doing this will definitely save you money and might help prevent you from getting addicted to painkillers! ETA, following the response: Obviously I didn't know that 20 was so many when I was sent home with 20 or I would have declined that many. And I would have gladly talked to Dr. Muul about my concerns, but as I said, that was not an option made available to me. While I still think 20 is way too many, the explanation is not completely unreasonable - it would have been nice to have the responsiveness at the time. read more

Dr Muul is excellent! He conducted the consultation and extraction within an hour. His bedside manner is professional and personable. He called me personally that evening to check on my condition. His skills are exemplary. I had little to no pain following my extraction and his recommendations for follow-up care were simple and practical. Billing error, the procedure was done almost 2 moths ago. The refund was supposed to be sent out 2 weeks after te procedure, never receive the check. I went in the office and follow up with the office staff, not as friendly as the first time i met them. And kept insist the bill was correct when she was the one told me last month that they over charged us, and the check will be send back to me. When I tried to arranged a date to meet and o over the bill, the staff is not willing to meet in person to explain the bill. However, she is willing to go over the bill over the phone. What kind of BS is this? You have time to explain to me over the phone, but not in person? I don't recommend anyone to go, but if you do, please understand what you got bill and how much. read more

I had the best experience at Dr. Muul's office today. So good that I feel writing this review is necessary. Dr. Muul removed four teeth today (three wisdom and one molar) and it went better than I ever expected. I was in at 10:45 and out before noon. Dr. Muul made me feel comfortable and eased my fears. After the surgery, I had very little pain and little swelling. I'm relatively new to Columbia, so I used Yelp to assist with my search. I'm glad I read through others reviews carefully and grateful that I gave Dr. Muul a chance. I highly recommend Dr. Muul and will continue to use him in the future. read more

Worst office stuff, incompetent, rude, insulting. My first experience with the office was 3 years ago (2016) for an implant. I had two dental insurances. The primary doesn't cover implant. The secondary covers 50% of the allowed amount. After the office filed the pre-authorization. I received a letter sent from the secondary insurance company. They allowed $1,600 of the $2,000 filed amount. Per the policy, the insurance would cover half, and I pay the other half $800. I was OK with that. They I received the phone call from the office. They told me that the allowed amount of my secondary was too low and they wouldn't accept it. They would use the "allowed amount" of my primary insurance. Since it didn't cover anything, they wanted the full $2,000. I didn't agree with this. After several discussion over the phone, they wouldn't budge. I called the consumer complaint division of the state attorney's office. A lady specialized in medical bill related issues told me since the office participated in the secondary insurance plan, they had to accepted the allowed amount and asked me to file a formal complaint. Armed with the information, I called the office again. During the conversation, I mentioned I would only pay $800. And the office manager suddenly paused. She checked something and came back to me. She somehow thought the insurance company only allowed $400. She told me she would accept the $1600. Wow, all the stress, argument was just for a stupid oversight of hers. She then made up the rule of using the allowed amount of the primary insurance. Given the level of the stupidity of the mistake, I figured that I was one of the extreme unlucky patients with the office. I proceeded and completed the treatment. This year, I need another implant for an old bridge needs replacement. Again I have two dental insurances, Delta dental as primary, and GEHA (high option) as secondary. But this year I also have health insurance from GEHA, which gives a little bit dental benefit (some routine checkup only). So it looks like I have 3 dental insurances. GEHA dental requires any claim must go through GEHA health first. I knew this very well from my dentist's office (actually they told me all about this), my kid's dental office (They got denied and then learned it). Today I went to Dr. Mull's office for the initial consultation. I gave the front desk lady all the three cards, and tried to explain to her that Delta was my primary, then please file to GEHA health, even it won't cover anything. At last please file to GEHA dental. The lady was so inpatient and interrupted me twice and staring at me like I was an idiot telling a fairy tale. She took all my three cards and made copies. Later when she sent me to the treatment room, she informed me that GEHA didn't cover any implant. I was so surprised and told her it covered 50% last time. She told me "They changed it. It is just a very limited plan now". I asked her "It sounds like GEHA health plan. Did you call the GEHA dental plan?" She told me "They are the company. They have the same ID. They coordinate with each other". Then she sent me to the treatment room. While waiting for the doctor, I looked at the cards. No, they don't have the same ID numbers. I called my wife and asked her to call GEHA about coverage on implant. My wife later texted me "covers up to $2500". After seeing the doctor, I was sent to talk to the front desk about billing. The lady talked me earlier was busy doing some paperwork. Another lady showed me an explanation of fees. I told her the other lady made a mistake and GEHA indeed covered implant. I showed her my wife's text. She accepted that the insurance would cover it. She showed me the paper, one line was "bone graft". Delta doesn't cover it. And she explained "MOST insurance don't cover bone graft". I said "That's OK. Since you only got my benefit from Delta, but not GEHA, could you contact GEHA to get my benefit about bone graft and implant as well. I'll be glad to pay out of my pocket if they don't cover the bone graft. She called GEHA, and told me GEHA told her that I was not covered under the policy. She wrote down the representative's name she talked to, the reference number, and trying to convince me she did get that information from GEHA. I tried to tell her GEHA made a mistake, and I wanted to call GEHA to figure it out. She then became very pushy asking me to sign the fee explanation. But I want to figure out the GEHA coverage first. Another later in the back of the office also started point out that I just need to sign the paper. I told them I won't sign anything until I call GEHA. Once I started to call, they told me I need to move away, even no other patient was at the front desk or the waiting room at the time. Then I went to the waiting room to continue the phone call. The lady sitting in the back went all the way around to the waiting room. I was referred to Dr. Muul by my dentist for an extraction and implant. If you are the nervous type you will need Valium or something to calm you because I felt "he's basically a clinical surgeon". But I have to give him kudos because he did an excellent job which is the outcome I was looking for. Not only that before my last appointment I did like him and he did take very good care of me before sending me back for my crown. (Wish he had done the crown!) I am now giving this review because at the time I didn't realize just how much of an excellent job he'd done. Due to insurance I am with a new dentist and she asked me where did I have an implant and she responded that's not an implant and she took a picture. Had a bone graft done - the surgery performed was almost totally pain free, surgery was fast and he showed tremendous skill doing it.

Hands down best wisdoms tooth extraction EVER!!! The staff is very nice and helpful. I got a good vibe from the first call I made to try and schedule the appointment...which by the way I was able to make for less than a week away. The office is very very nice. Now I had the laughing gas, but even still the actual extraction was painless and perfectly executed. I hate needles , so the numbing process sucked...but that's unavoidable ..once numb... And then high as a kite, Dr. Muul went to work. If my wisdom tooth was a jewel he is one hell of a cat burglar and my tooth was out before I even knew it...PAINLESSLY I MIGHT ADD!!! I would recommend APEX to anyone needing oral surgery, and that's where I intend to go if ever I need anything in the future. On the business side, they do what they gotta do..straight and direct, but with a comfortable feel. Very poor communication skills - Michael Muul does not counsel, discuss post procedure care. I had a doubt about using general anaesthesia for dental extraction and wanted to use local. He barely looked at me and answered across the counter through his MA. Even in room, there is no eye contact. Does not foster trust. read more

They have very pathetic customer service. The receptionist Amenda has no respect for customers what so ever, They made a mistake of updating my contact details and they blame me that I gave them wrong details. Why ll someone give wrong details and my details were not even cross checked. Amenda told me that they need a email referral from the dentistry which referred me but when I called my dentist office they told me they never expected any email referral. This is the first time they are saying that they require email referral. In the end she tells me whenever I plan to schedule a appointment with any other office, I should give them my correct details implying that I don't understand english. She even directly told me that I should take responsibility for all my actions. I would kindly recommend you not to go there because you may end up hearing what I have heard. read more

Friendly, kind, and patient staff .... I read the negative reviews and noted that they were given 3-5 years ago but more importantly, I disagree with the reviews. The office staff was very patient with my child even though she was consumed with complaining and questioning in an effort to get out of the surgery. She had four wisdom teeth pulled so I can't blame her for being upset about being there. Still, the staff was especially kind during the intake and when helping to walk her out. The physical office is very nice so it was not difficult to wait while she had her surgery. Again, the staff was helpful and patient with the repeated requests for the wifi password and with my daughter's repeated questioning about the everything from the type of anesthesia, to why can't she have her teeth afterwards, to what will happen if ______. The procedure took about 30 minutes and they were very helpful about explaining the aftercare. We even received a follow up call later that evening. I highly recommend this office. read more
