I have been seeing her since January 2010, and had high hopes at first, but have just written her a letter letting her know I would no longer be requiring her services. The initial diagnosis was very expensive (something like $325), but I think she did a good job. She doesn't take insurance, but I decided to take a leap of faith since she was highly recommended and I wanted badly to figure out the right thing for me. She did take some time to figure out the medications that would work for me and the complaints about the side effects I was having, but she was always pushing the brand name pills instead of generic. I told her that her monthly fee was getting to expensive for me ($125 per 20-30min) because I'm a full time student, but she never offered a sliding scale. Every time I went to an appointment, I felt like she was in a hurry to listen casually for a few minutes, give me my prescriptions, and pencil in my next appointment. I was always on time and very polite to her. I didn't say anything about how I was feeling because I felt she had some kind of authority over me, but I realize that I should have spoken up months ago and stopped seeing her. I am, however, feeling better...though it is probably due to a change in my lifestyle as much as it is the medication. The worst is how she communicated with me via email. I emailed her only a few times and kept them very brief and very courteous, but never really felt like she gave my questions or worries any thought or time, simply saying that we'll talk about it at our next appointment. Her tone was always very cold, which seems weird to me for her career choice. The straw that broke the camel's back was an email in which she asked me "Are you coming at 3:30?????" exactly like that, just that sentence with the 5 question marks. I had already confirmed that I was indeed coming to that appointment in a previous email, but she must have overlooked it even though it was right there in the thread. I wrote back telling her that her message was rude and very unprofessional. I don't know if she just didn't like me or what, but I wouldn't recommend her to anyone.

troubling that a psychiatry practice rapidly expanding across Texas does not even consider…read moreneurodivergence to be a real disorder or disability. This mindset is in direct violation of the Patient's Bill of Rights, as are several of the other discriminatory issues I experienced here. I had a wonderful experience over the last four months and was improving significantly with my treatment. Unfortunately, everything changed when Dr. Floreani left. The practitioner who replaced them has zero experience dealing with neurodivergence. Her lack of knowledge is so severe that she requires DEA drug screens for all neurodivergent patients on stimulants under the guise of ensuring we are not "manic." She completely dismissed my medical history, claiming that prior records, years of testing, and previous diagnoses were irrelevant. She believes the 20 minutes she spent with me makes her more credible than years of documented medical history. Even worse, she repeatedly triggered my Autistic/ADHD/AuDHD symptoms, provoking a severe meltdown and leaving me physically ill. My well-being was clearly not her priority. When my therapist tried contacting the office multiple times over a week to help, her calls went ignored. Furthermore, this clinician requested that my regular psychiatrist of over 10 years call her to discuss my treatment but learned today that more forms were needed--forms that were not provided. Ultimately, the office made it clear today that she had no interest in his professional background information anyway. Her mind was made up. Singling out neurodivergent patients with separate, harmful protocols is wrong. Mistaking neurodivergence for mania is a deeply harmful, outdated stereotype. For the head of the Austin office to lack this basic understanding is completely irresponsible. If you are Autistic, ADHD, or AuDHD, this is not the place for you. You will be singled out, misunderstood, and insulted

I rated his service as 'above and beyond' and would've scored him at 10. However, over the last couple of years, I've noticed a declining trend in quality of healthcare and front office professionalism; wherein, the nurse practitioner held the notion that Diabetes was curable. Since my A1C was in check, she would no longer prescribe the medication that had been keeping it in check. It was not a pleasant experience getting this escalated to Dr. John's attention. When finally that occurred, Dr. John immediately requested a refill for the prescription med, yet made no mention of the NP's error - or that she would be re-trained. Over the years, his office staff deteriorated, particularly his wife - who clearly rules the roost with autocratic rudeness. While I'm grateful for the decades of great medical care I received from Dr. John, I'm happy to see him retire - and hopefully his wife as well, such that patients can receive the awesome care once delivered by Dr. Paul John, MD.

Dr. Dobyns is an amazing psychiatrist who has definitely saved my life, and made the quality of my…read morelife better. First off, something I'm really appreciative of, is that he doesn't just throw a pill at all your problems. If he thinks there's a habit you can change or adapt, or a type of therapy you would benefit from, he'd rather see you do that than just add another medication like some doctors would. As an example, I was having bad anxiety, and he told me he'd like to see me try cognitive behavioral therapy before he prescribed me anything, and recommended a workbook I could try. I picked up the book, and my anxiety is now very manageable, and I'm not hooked on a pill I have to turn to all the time. This isn't to say he's stingy with prescriptions, he will absolutely give you what you need, but compared to other doctors who use their prescription pad to shut you up and get you out the door, he puts a lot of thought into what he's going to have you put in your body. On top of his amazing skills, visits are always awesome. He's pretty funny with a dry sense of humor, and will have you chuckling in-between the more serious business. He can be kind of frank, but never mean. I've put on a lot of weight from one of the medications (one that going off is not an option yet), and though he does point it out and we discuss it, it's out of concern for my well-being and he took the time to assure me that it doesn't make me a bad person and I shouldn't feel bad about it. He didn't tiptoe around the issue, and he didn't attack me, he just does his job with my well-being in mind. Not to mention the offices are always very clean and attractive, and Robin at the front desk is a hoot. Overall, Dr. Dobyns is awesome and I'm super glad to be in his care.
