He was able to do the surgery and remove both teeth with the speed I comfort I never experience before. It was just "top, top and pull" and the tooth was gone. Wow, it was amazing and Dr. Miner is amazing and absolutely the best! Today, I'm still doing great, no pain and no bleeding! I think Dr. Miner is the best oral surgeon in the San Diego area. He is also supper nice and made me feel comfortable and safe before and during the procedure. I was very, very scared but he was able to calm me down and still performed the surgery without sedation. In fact, the whole team in doctor Miner's office is super nice and welcoming.

Instead, I felt one tiny pinch at the very beginning to numb the area, and after that... absolutely nothing. No pain at all. About 40 minutes later, he was finished. Dr. Andrus is calm, professional, and incredibly good at what he does. You can tell right away you're in experienced hands. He explained everything as he worked, so I never once wondered what was happening. That made the whole experience so much less stressful. He also told me he's performed over 30,000 root canals, and after my experience, I believe it. What really impressed me was that he used a microscope during the procedure, and because of that the opening he made was incredibly small. I had very little soreness afterward--really just about a day of mild discomfort--and that was it. His assistant was amazing too. He was friendly, helpful, informative, and worked seamlessly with Dr. Andrus. You could tell they have an incredible routine together. The whole process felt organized, efficient, and professional from start to finish. Best of all, all the tooth sensitivity I'd been dealing with before the procedure is completely gone. I'm so glad I finally had it done. If you need a root canal, don't let the stories on the internet scare you. Go see Dr. Kevin Andrus. I never thought I'd be saying this, but it was one of the easiest dental procedures I've ever had.

I called them the following day to thank them again for their care and leaving me pain free.

However, we were surprised twice by unexpected bills that somehow were our responsibility even though our insurance had fully covered it the previous 2 visits. His admin/ billing staff continued to send past due payments for a simple cleaning that is always covered by insurance. After calling my insurance company, they said no coverage lapsed or changed but that he had raised his rates. The office did not inform us of this and expected us to just know. After a phone call to one of his staff, it's clear they do not have patients best interest in mind. The staff was condescending, blaming (saying "it's not our responsibility to know what your insurance should be paying" and "we don't have a crystal ball to see into the future") There could have been a better way to answer my questions and handle the situation. It's just unfortunate to lose patients over $50. So of course now the bill is paid but I feel completely misunderstood and dismissed by a business that should be mindful of customer satisfaction. Responses like "I completely understand your frustration" or "yes, this is absolutely something we can work out. Let's see what the options are, perhaps we can resubmit this claim..." Lesson I learned is not to do any standard cleaning unless I'm fully educated about price increases and insurance agreements with the provider.

Fast forward several years later and after several attempts to find the right orthodontist and oral surgeon, in addition to having the insurance to approve and pay for these procedures, I decided to have braces and oral surgery. This process started in 2019. After about a year and a half of braces, I was referred to Dr. Tafilis by my primary care physician. Dr. Tafilis was fair, upfront, and explored all the risks with my procedures. He first performed an upper jaw surgery expanding my upper jaw to align my lower jaw. There were no complications with this surgery. After another 3 years of braces, it was time to complete my double jaw surgery in the summer of 2024. The surgery went smooth however unfortunately there were some issues with my jaw post surgery. This risk was accepted as my case was usually challenging as I had a prior surgery in my youth. What was suppose to be only a month of having my jaw wired turned into almost 5 months. For privacy reasons I will not go into details, however, I will say Dr. Tafilis did not give up and saw to that my care was not complete until the issues from my surgery were corrected. He provided me with his personal cell phone number, checked in on me regularly, by text or phone. On Thanksgiving of 2024, I finally ate my first solid food meal and in Jan of 2025 I got my braces off. I can't Thank Dr. Tafilis and his staff enough for the life changing benefits that his procedures have provided me. After years of not being able to confidently smile, chew my food correctly, and have breathing difficulties, I am so great full for him and his team. I would recommend Dr. Tafilis to anyone considering corrective jaw surgery.

The verdict is out... in the end - (in my opinion) Dr. Adel Tawfilis helped his peer get away with…read moreseveral thousand dollars in injuries when she planned to "extract a single tooth" and replace it with an implant, only to realize mid extraction that she screwed up and that the 'single tooth' was in fact attached as one of four anchors to a bridge. Instead of doing the right thing, his peer continued as if she didn't make a mistake, destroying the bridge, damaging several teeth and omitting facts from medical records. Perhaps his peer was unable to find a willing 'expert' out of almost 7,500 oral surgeons in Los Angeles. Fortunately for her, Dr. Tawfilis in San Diego provided his "expert opinion" that aligned with her "single tooth" false mantra. Dr. Tawfilis provided his expert opinion ignoring facts, conditions and injuries and provided his expert opinion that his peer extracted a single tooth: ignoring the fact it was one of four natural tooth anchors to a bridge; and ignoring the fact that a surgeon is not qualified to treat (or act as an expert witness for) the condition, or injuries that his peer created. Nonetheless, he appears to have put his blinders on and provided an "expert" report that his peer "extracted a tooth" within the standard of care - nothing more, nothing less: yes, she grabbed a tooth, yes, she yanked on a tooth; yes, that tooth came out; and yes, it was within the standard of care for an oral surgeon to do that. Or as I would say in his shoes... "that's my story and I'm sticking to it." From my shoes I would say... I have the evidence and am willing to share it. So, if Dr. Tawfilis suggests a procedure or perhaps gives advise - if I were his patient - I would think... "what is he NOT telling me" and/or "is he telling me the truth." Birds of a feather stick together.
