I went to see Dr. Hollander because an MRI had been taken which showed I had three fractures in my pelvic bone. No wonder I was in such pain after an accident I had! I went to Dr. Hollander and was overwhelmingly pleased that, even though I was in quite a bit of pain and more or less expecting he would say I needed surgery, he did not. He was in no way 'knife happy' or trying to take advantage of the situation, which he easily could have. Instead, he took me on a very smooth, sensible set of appointments that included physical therapy and advice that not only got me more mobile quickly but gave me the head's up on what I needed to do for the future to make sure I avoided back pack and an uneven gait. His calm and obvious experience and sage advice was priceless to me. He is the real deal, honest, total Pro. Gabby in his office is very with it is running his front desk with a perfect combination of being kind and efficient. One more plus -- his office is sparklingly clean and has enough art work on the walls to let you know you are at the top of the line. It doesn't get any better than this. HIGHLY recommend. read more

After a large dog attacked me, and my job failed to provide me with the resources I needed to recover I found Dr. Hollander. He was thorough, attentive, and provided professional athlete level care. After seeing a few Orthopedists in LA, I am certain he is the best. His level of knowledge, flexibility in recovery options and concern for my future health made me feel safe and secure in the program he set up for me. If I ever need an Orthopedist's help again I will be back. I will send my family and friends to see him as well. I have been a patient of Dr Hollander for 7 years he is a good diagnostician and very direct on his approach for treatment. Surgery is the last option he would recommend if all other options for care fail. I find his mannerism to be caring never sugar coating his course of treatment. He is truthful and sincere treating me as a patient. I had rotator cuff surgery with Dr Hollander 2 months ago. I suffered two different fractures over a two year period. My internist referred to me Dr. Hollander. I first went to the ER, that was a Hugh waste of time, not to mention painful! The first person I met at Dr. Hollander's office was FRANK. Amazing, kind and generally caring about making me comfortable while taking my x-rays. Dr. Hollander walks in, he begins to explain everything he saw on the films, and his plan. He is not knife happy! I'm a nurse, I speak his language, however I never worked in Orthopedics. He decided to see if it would heal on its own (both fractures each time), which could take 8-10 weeks, if it didn't heal we would talk surgery. They both healed perfectly, due to his knowledge and patience. He is GREAT, and I trust him with all my future fractures, ( hopefully no more). 'Marilyn Shapiro read more

Dr. hollander is an excellent surgeon and physician. He is an expert when it comes to handling complex issues of the arm, shoulder, elbow and wrist. I personally have had two surgeries from him and both have worked unbelievably well over the past 10 years. Dr. hollander's always there for me whenever I need his help and his staff Gabby and Frank are the best and very responsive when it comes to supporting Dr. hollander and helping his patients to achieve the best outcomes. Dr. Hollander is an excellent doctor. He is clear, honest, and extremely professional. He is very confident with his abilities with very good reason to be. He does not recommend a bunch of unnecessary PT and will not push you into surgery, unless it is absolutely necessary. I completely disagree with the folks that commented on the copay and Dr. Hollander being greedy. Yes, they collect a copay....As most medical providers do. They are not running a non-profit. I have absolutely NEVER had this experience and our family has been through years of appointments and three surgeries. In fact, I found that he is compensated less than the anesthesiologists and every other doctor and hospital involved. If you are looking to be spoon fed a bunch of baloney and hand holding, this is NOT your doctor. If you want the best surgeon and best outcome....Go see Dr. Hollander. read more

Dr Hollander is ethical and intelligent. My Mom had a severe cumulative fracture and was in the ER. He was prepared with a team of 7 to fix her and blocked out a chunk of his day, but at the last min she changed her mind! Knowing she has anxiety issues, I convinced her to rebook it and so she did. So everyone scrambled to put the surgery back on and then she changed her mind again! Instead of reacting angrily or charging a fee for the financial loss, Dr Hollander worked with my Mom's fears week after week. Helped improve her quality of life with physical therapy and cortisone injections. And he has such a knack at reducing her phobias of medical things. Next we will just clean up some of the loose bones out with a mini camera, so no scary surgery!!! He's not the kind of doctor that rushes you or that you have to remind all over again what the problem was. I'm sorry for the individual who expected to do Zumba after surgery but that's just not realistic at any age. And to the person who expected two issues to be resolved in one visit - I don't think any doctor does that nowadays because of how insurance billing code rules apply. And besides its kind of being unfair to other patients. read more

Dr. Hollander is NOT as hot as he would like to believe he is. I was in pain when I went to see him, but he told me that he thought I was "faking it just to get attention". Like most surgeons Dr. Hollander is a serious man. We brought one of my kids in for a small fracture that another doctor had prescribed an alarming course of OT/PT for. Dr. Hollander talked with us candidly about the injury, the recovery and what we could and could not do during the recovery period. He understands the unique dilemmas of injured kids who want to participate in athletics and helped us find a medically sound course of treatment that actually didn't include physical therapies which would have not only been expensive (not an issue - we have great insurance) but would have taken up a tremendous amount of time. He's a sensible guy who practices good medicine as far as I can tell. In our case he also consulted with another specialist. I'm a high maintenance patient & found the office delightful. read more

I'm agreeing with others, DR. Hollander thinks he is hot stuff fitting as many in his day to collect Copays. Went there for scar tissue damage from a hip injury, looked at me for 2 minutes. Had me walk around and said my legs looks like they want to position outwards. Had me sit on the operation table, said see your legs want to position outwards, not normal. Please people sit on a higher elevation and see what direction your toes face, OUTWARDS! Told me to come back with my Xrays for examining. Went to get my Xrays and brought them myself to his office. Ask the front desk if the Dr. can check the angle of the Xrays before I came in just in case I needed additional Xrays. Week later I called and they told me the Dr. won't look at them until you come in and pay another Copay. Which would have been fine as long as I knew ahead of time that I didn't need additional Xrays. He thinks he is a smarty pants that cracks jokes at your expense. Don't know much about his surgical experience but he seemed like a guy that looks at you as a dollar sign not a person in pain. Finding a new Dr., not worth my time or my $60 Copay. One more thing, YOU PAY FOR PARKING!!!! read more

I recently hurt my knee and our family lawyer referred me to Dr.Hollander. He is by far one of the best Orthepedic doctors I have ever been to. His staff was a complete dream! So kind and friendly. Gabby who works at the front desk was so on top of everything and helped me find a doctor to do my pre-op testing. Not sure how this person can lack the most basic level of compassion. If you want a doctor who never calls you back, will not squeeze you in for an appointment in person or even via phone to adjust medication levels - this is the guy for you. I have witnessed my friend be neglected by this doctor in his most dire time of need and it's truly disheartening. I wouldn't trust my worst enemy with this doctor. Dr Hollander is amazing. In counter to that one review, he took time to answer all of my questions and most importantly he is very personable and knowledgeable. Dr. Hollander was referred to me by 2 other physicians who have actually been treated by him. I found him to be very conservative in his treatment, a plus in my book, who recommended arthoscopic surgery on my shoulder as a LAST resort. I would trust him 100%. I would also point out that his staff Frank and Gabby are top notch and always friendly. I believe this says a lot about Dr. Hollander's overall attitude. When he determined I needed an MRI he called the imaging center himself and got them to squeeze me in that day. read more

I was recommended by a family friend who had been coming to see Dr. Hollander for 20 years. He was very direct and pulls no punches. Conservative in his approach. Rest and then P.T. for my knee. This was SO refreshing to work with a Dr. that knows what he's doing, likes people and get this...likes his job! read more

Update: After about six weeks of various pain continuing in right knee I asked Dr. Hollander to order an MRI so I could find out exactly what was wrong. The X-rays had shown little beyond arthritis.. I was correct in my suspicions -- I was diagnosed with a right-sided torn lateral meniscus deemed 'degenerative' over time. Evidently some 60% of older people end up with this. We discussed options and one is to take it slow and keep waiting for more improvement. I like that conservative approach. The second option is to do a half hour or so procedure to shave down the torn bits of meniscus. I understand this works in about 50% of cases. I've done a ton of reading about knee issues and everything Dr. Hollander said is what I've read on various types of medical sites like research hospitals, med schools, and orthopedists websites. I've decided to wait a bit longer and see how it goes. I do need to keep the knee moving constantly so am using the stationary bike at the gym, a few minutes at a time to start. I also must bend and straighten the knee often as it's very helpful. I will definitely see Dr. Hollander about the surgery he mentioned if I decide I can't deal with pain any longer and it isn't getting better. (I use NO pain meds for this at all.) He told me not to wait TOO long or I'd need partial knee replacement which I really don't want. My second visit with Dr. H. was as pleasant as the first and his staff is great. I highly recommend them all. read more

Please do yourself a favor and seek the advice of another doctor. Dr. Hollander is not a competent doctor. His surgery was not successful. He could not give an adequate explanation why it was not successful. He stated that he was not very knowledgeable about why it did not work. Are you joking? He performed the surgery twice. Other physicians could not believe that he did the second without inquiring the negative results from the first. I even figured it out! So many other great doctors out there with competent staff as well. read more

Today was my first visit to Dr. Hollander for a shoulder issue. The office staff was professional and friendly. Dr. Hollander was thorough and informative, with a relaxing manner. He asked good questions and took me through a series of movements and xrays to assess my problem. I was able to get treatment and relief at this initial visit. I cannot say that others would have the same outcome, but I would highly recommend Dr. Hollander and this office. read more

Hollander gets five stars no doubt. I had a case 5 shoulder separation and a torn rotator cuff. The first impression I got from Hollander was that invasive surgery is the last resort, which I appreciated. I'm a very active person and when he said that I can leave the injury alone, but that I could develop neck pain in the future or limited mobility, I knew I had to get it properly fixed. Setting up surgery was really easy and Hollander answered all my questions. Surgery went smoothly and 6 months later I had full mobility again. There are two things to attribute to that, Hollander and doing all my physical therapy. I call absolute bull shit when people blame the doctor but rarely do the physical therapy. Going through the surgery is the easy part. Heres the thing, hes a doctor, hes not here to baby you which it seems like a lot of people are expecting. Highly recommended physician, honest, right to the point and a real down to earth guy. read more

I have been a grateful patient of Dr. Hollander's for over fifteen years. Initially i had a bad rotator cuff injury from a skiing accident which he repaired. I was impressed by how much pride he has in doing the best possible job for me. He also took a lot of time to explain what was going on and what to expect. I was fortunate to heal quickly and well. Within six months I was playing tennis again without pain. Since then he has scoped both my knees and also did a second (more difficult) rotator cuff repair. This took longer than I hoped to rehab, but I'm happy to say my shoulder feels as good as new. I can't imagine seeing any other doctor for shoulder work. One last note. i have recommended Dr. Hollander to many friends as well as family members. Everyone I've sent to him has been very pleased with the result. He's our go-to guy. read more

He was just really terrific in lots of ways: first visit evaluation, ordering of tests (which turned out to be necessary), and then a follow-up to have a simple yet detailed explanation about the what to do moving forward. I'm really pleased with every aspect. Thanks! read more

My first appointment with Dr. Hollander-which I reviewed earlier- was terrific. Since that time though, I can say that the treatment I've received has been terrible. It turned out that he did recommend surgery. I agreed to have a menisectomy/chondroplasty to remove the loose bodies, and repair cartilage damage. Dr. Hollander told me the surgery would take 28 minutes and I'd walk out of the hospital on my own two feet. More importantly, I would be able to return to my Zumba classes almost immediately. At 81 years old Zumba is my passion. The exercise is good for my physical and mental well being. Prior to the surgery I was given stacks of paperwork to sign, which I now see does list the potential for pain and swelling. However, I'm 81 years old, and it certainly wouldn't have been too much to ask that I be informed of the post-surgery side effects that I might experience. The surgery was performed on Monday, August 12th. My expectations going into surgery was that I would go in, have the surgery, and walk out shortly thereafter. Suffice to say, my post-surgery recovery has not been smooth sailing. I could barely walk out of the hospital following surgery, because I was in blinding pain. No one offered me any kind of aid in walking. In fact, my friend who picked me up insisted on returning so that I could get an assistive walking device. My leg was swollen from mid-shin up to my upper thigh. My toes were black and blue. I was given a walker, and a cold therapy device to help with the swelling of my knee. The walker was a nightmare to use, and in fact Monday evening became a horrible nightmare. No one ever suggested it might be helpful for me to have someone stay the night with me, to help me. The pain of getting out of bed was excruciating. Moreover the pain rendered me unable to even shower, for a full week after the surgery which is frankly, mortifying. The fact that I was not properly informed of these post-surgery side effects is simply unacceptable. Even as I write this, almost a month after the surgery, I cannot walk without pain, and my knee remains swollen twice the size it should ordinarily be. I called Dr. Hollander's office on Tuesday, the day after my surgery, only to be told that he'd gone on vacation and that she had no solutions for reducing the pain, or coping with the problems. I called again on Wednesday and spoke to another staff member who did apologize for the nightmare I'd been dealing with, yet he couldn't provide any help other than to wait to see him the following week. Basically, I was told to ride out the pain, discomfort and humiliation. I'm incredibly disappointed in both the information I was given before the surgery, and the outcome of this surgery. I haven't been able to return to Zumba, as I'm still barely able to walk. I sincerely hope that this serves as a warning to other patients of what they may be setting themselves up for even if the surgery is supposed to be 28 minutes and immediate recovery. read more

Dr. Hollander is the absolute best doctor. He is so incredibly intelligent. He's no nonsense, conservative in all surgical approaches, and a really nice guy. I couldn't agree more with the review by Yay W. He is a terrible Doctor, and it's very obvious he only cares about collecting copay $$. Michael Hollander's quality of service is garbage. He does try to talk a good game, but he's very transparent and his greed can be seen from a mile away. He tries to recommend visits that aren't necessary, while barely even looking at the injury during each visit. He'll barely look at an X-ray and then will attempt to not even look at your leg even if you've complained that it feels like its healing unevenly. If you do make the mistake of going to see this poor excuse for a doctor, make sure you stand up for yourself, as he will try to get away with doing as little as possible for as much money as possible. The office is very nice and very well decorated, with framed basketball posters hanging from the walls. This is probably the reason he's so money-hungry, because it does look like his rent is pretty high. Just FYI, you will also pay $1.50 per 15minutes to park, and they don't validate. Dr. Michael Hollander does have a certain slickness about him; the kind you see in a crooked used car salesman. I will never go to this doctor again, and you'd be smart to not go a first time. Recently visited Dr. Hollander with my MRI and report for my medial torn meniscus and he didn't even wanted to see the MRI or the Radiologist report as he arrogantly said he knew what the problem was. He and his staff made me feel like I was "one in a million," not "just another one of a million patients." I saw Dr. Hollander to try and control chronic pain from a shingles infection in my facial area. He was compassionate, but his treatments were completely ineffective. At least he always said he was sorry when his useless injections were giving me more pain. Shingles pain is very difficult for anyone to treat, but Dr. Hollander on 3 different occasions said that he was willing to treat me with a stim wave implant device that he introduced to me at an office visit. He never bothered to check if my insurance would actually cover the procedure and he never revealed to me that he had no previous experience in implanting this device. When my insurance company refused to cover the procedure, Dr. Hollander bailed out and attempted to refer me to an experimental clinic many miles away without even consulting with me! Wow, what a shock. I found his behavior to be completely unprofessional in my case. Dr. Hollander may be very good at dealing with pain conditions that he has clinical experience in dealing with, but introducing a patient to a procedure and then bailing out because he has no experience or authorization is substandard medical practice. Through a recommendation from my primary care physican, I went to see Dr. Michael Hollander for some left shoulder pain that I was experiencing. It was in April, 2010, and I was having trouble lifting my arm, and was experiencing terrible pain when I did.. My youngest daughter was getting married at the end of May, and I wanted to be ok for the ceremony, and the party. As he begin to examine me, he took my left hand and twisted my arm completely around in a windmill fashion. All of a sudden, I felt a terrible pain in my bicep. As I recoiled in pain, I looked at him, and asked what just happened? He said, don't worry, your fine, nothing is wrong, and he proceeded to move on to another patient. I got dressed, and left his office. When I arrived back home, my shoulder and arm began to throb terribly, but I waited to early evening to call him back (in hope the pain would go away). However, it did not, so I decided to call his office. He had already left, but his exchange service was able to reach him on his cell phone. When he answered, I could tell that he was driving and he had me on his speaker. I asked him "what did you do to me in your office"? You twisted my arm around, and I am now in terrible pain! He became verbally abusive to me on the phone, and refused to take responsibility for what he had done. I was shocked by his response, and complete lack of compassion. He kept saying "you'll be fine" I didn't do anything to hurt you. Because my daughters wedding was fast approaching, I decided that I was best getting some heavy duty pain medicine from my primary care physician and taking care of it after the wedding. When I finally went to see another orthopedic surgeon 3 months had passed and my left bicep looked like it had slipped down my arm into a bundle. It was then when I found it what Dr. Hollander had actually done to me. He had torn my biceps tendon completely through. The surgeon sadly informed me that this type of injury is only repairable if operated on within the first 4-6 weeks, and that there was nothing that could be done. That diagnosis was sadly confirmed through a second opinion from another shoulder surgeon. So, "Thanks to Dr. Michael Hollander", I am left was a permanently weak, painful, and deformed looking left arm. He has "0" compassion, and frankly as far as I am concerned, should not be practicing medicine. If you have plans to see him, run, don't walk as fast as you can in the opposite direction before you become a victim. read more
