I was recommended by my Primary Physician....The Dr is a nice guy and fairly competent. The office staff told me they accepted Blue Shield. I gave them all my insurance info. I proceeded to have (2) Office Visits. They visits were scheduled and both times the Dr was not in the office at the time of my arrival. My time is valuable as well and I find this practice very off putting. Now the fun part.... Since I had Bursitis in my elbow, and it was very painful, he suggested we drain it. After 2 weeks the elbow filled up again and it was drained again. I received my bill from him in the mail and checked with my insurance company as to why they did not make a payment and with his billing office as to why they didn't use the approved pricing for my bill. Both told me that he was "out of network" yet the office never told me that and in fact they told me that they did in fact accept my insurance. Beware and get everything in writing. read more

The worst front office and billing service I have ever experienced. Evening in medical business for over 30years I had a visit with the doctor ,which I was told to pay at the time of service even when you have a PPO insurance. I did pay the amount asked plus 4% for using my credit card and the only receipt given was my credit card and was told the insurance will be billed with 14 days. Which after 2 months and 11 phone calls later I finally received my explanation of benefits and I was charged 3 times more than I should have and called the office with information and was told to contact Melonie the billing office to have them email the office Angela in order to get my refund after 2 phone calls I finally got a hold her and she said I have to wait for her to receive her copy and she does not know when and the account has a zero balance explained over and over and she simply did not care , called the office back again spoke to Angela and she said she will not do anything until she hear from the billing office. Asked to leave a message for the doctor she said it had to go thru her and asked for his email she said no and there is no way to get in touch with the doctor unless I make a appointment and pay for a visit to speak to her. I was diagnosed for needing a knee replacement from a very good orthopedic surgeon I had a baker's cyst that burst and lots of arthritis and pretty much bone on bone.I went to the surgical center to have it performed I was on the gurney had the lv in and was talking to the anesthesiologist before the surgery while I was there there was some concern about my knee being so swollen I might have an infection and also I had a fever the Dr was not comfortable performing the surgery while I had these symptoms so they sent me home.I just wanted to get this over with I can barely walk and I need a cane to get around.So I had to reschedule In the next couple of days I went to see Dr Shayfer for a cortisone injection in my shoulder which he has been treating me for years I told him about my knee problem and what happened he asked me if he could see my MRI report after looking at it he said that I might be able to avoid the knee replacement surgery with the shock therapy they do at his office it's only 3 sessions I said why not what do I have to loose only thing insurance doesn't cover it as it cost $250 per session it would be well worth it to avoid the surgery.So after the first session I was able to walk without a cane and pain was minimal after the final session I could do everything bend my knee's run with hardly any pain it has been 3 years and still no problems.| read more

I went to Dr. Shayfer with a broken, badly deformed small finger. Most surgeons would have said that the only way to repair it was with surgery. I told him that I previously had multiple surgeries and I couldn't withstand any more. Dr.Shayfer made me a splint/cast type of covering using his own hands specifically formed to my finger. Do not trust this doctor. I was sent here by my lawyer after a car accident. After a two hour wait with no Wifi, this doctor told me "you have a very serious injury and arthritis in your wrist, you may need surgery, I recommend PRP." This is a highly experimental, very expensive, painful, non- FDA approved procedure. None of this sounded right to me. I got a second opinion. The second opinion, after reviewing the X-rays and MRI was: you have a sprained wrist. You have no arthritis. You need physical therapy. You're going to be fine. My wrist healed on its own with a few daily exercises. So Dr. Shayfer knowingly lied to me in order to line his own pockets. Don't go here. read more

I wish I Could Give Negative Stars. I have never been so angry and annoyed with a doctor's office in all my years. I made an appointment and arrived early. I have a broken wrist and was told to come in on Tuesday because he was backed up on Monday. Well he was backed up on Tuesday also. I was told my wait would be at least an hour barring any further emergencies. I found that 5 other patients also had appointments at the same time as I. The excuse given was that the doctor never turns away a patient. People coe in without appointments and he sees them. Why bother making an appointment? DR. Shayfer operated on my son's finger with great success. He is a very caring doctor who takes his time making sure we understood all the options and made the right decision. My son had a broken finger and was in a lot of pain. His finger was deformed as well and a lot of doctors told us that there is nothing we can do. That he would have to live with it. Dr. Shayfer saw the x-ray and discussed it with my wife and decided to proceed with surgery. After a 20 min operation, my son started a great recovery and is now back to full activity and sports. Be prepared, this is a lonnnnng one. I would NOT RECOMMEND this doctor unless you have Medicare! It took an 1hr to just to get into a patient room. Another 20 minutes for the nurse assistant to come in retake all of the medical information I already wrote down on the documents they asked me to fill out prior to my appointment. Nurse leaves. After 10-15min, dr. Shayfer came in and saw me for 20min. I was looking at my watch, trying to document timing. He asked me what I was here to see him for today. When I explained my issue and the experiences I was having difficulty with, we did some hand and elbow pushing/wrestling type things a couple times. He then went on Google to show me what my condition seemed like. He told me to turn to my left and pick up a piece of paper with the description of the diagnosis. He said get a brace from Walgreens/CVS and see a neurologist. Now, if this doctor was a good doctor, he would've looked over my paperwork. If he didn't have time to look over it, fine. As we were sitting in the room together his first question should've been, do you have any medical conditions or take medications? It's like...ummm...Don't you want to know if I had a stroke, or, PTSD or epilepsy, or anything else which could be affecting my nerves?? What does this dumb ass doctor do, tells me you need to go see a neurologist. Well you idiot, if you looked over my medical information that your assistant and I wrote down, or asked me about it, or even allowed me tell you about it, then you'd know! I even repeated to him a neurologist, like a type of doctor you would see for the brain? AGAIN, if he was a good doctor...He probably should've said, "yes, a neurologist can be someone who looks into the brain. They also have neurologists who are more specialized in other nerves of the the body and the brain". Instead, He repeated, NO, a neurologist. It is difficult to understand with masks these days. I was like ohhh...ok...NERVEOLOGIST. I asked if he could recommend one. He says sure, I'll look into a good one for you. Wellllll.... If this is what you do for a living, and you refer people to see other doctors, you should already have the name of somebody on hand. You're going to tell me you don't know that Dr. Jenny Jones is a neurologist you've worked with and is someone you recommend in Los Angeles or in SoCal. I mean what kind of doctor doesn't already have a name on hand especially if you're working in this field? Like whatttt? After several days, I called the office and told them that I was supposed to receive a recommendation for a NERVEOLOGIST, but haven't received one. The receptionist looks at my paperwork and says, no a NEUROLOGIST. In my my head I like OMGGGG!! I said, is this the same type of Dr you'd see for the brain, like a person who experiences epilepsy. The receptionist says yes. SOME neurologists have different types of machines that can test the functioning of nerves in your hands and elbows and the brain, some just look into brain functioning. The receptionist says there's a really good one. I can send you her information. I said yes. Nowww....you're gonna tell me dr. Shayfer himself couldn't tell me the name of the neurologist?? Instead I waited more than 2 days and decided to call back myself. If the doctor understood me better and actually looked at my medical documentation, or even asked me about other medical conditions, or medication I take, I could've emailed my own neurologist asking if he provides the type of testing being recommend by Dr. Shayfer. I would've gotten a response in less than 24 hours too! With allll said... Don't waste your $75 co-pay. Go see a Doctor who actually cares about you. I felt unsettled after I left the appt and even told my loved ones I didn't think this guy was professional because we spent so little time together. Know that a Doctor who spends only 20 minutes with you in their office and doesn't inquire about your previous medical history or allow you to even tell them about it, is not a good one. They just trying to get PAAAIIID!! He likes working with people who have Medicare. Whyyyy? Cuz he gets PAAAIIID!!! The only professional person was the receptionist who was able to give me the information of a neurologist. Now I can connect with own and possibly new neurologist to discuss the issues. I was referred to Dr.Shayfer for possible wrist surgery due to a fracture. After reading his reviews on here, I was very reluctant to keep my appt. I only kept it because I truly trust Dr.Kantor's advice (Kantor Ortho in Valencia). I am very happy that I kept it! The office staff was extremely nice and helpful, they answered all my questions. Just like any physician's office, paperwork needs to be completed. It's really no big deal. My wait was less than 20mins before I was called into a room. The nursing staff was friendly, after vitals they told me the doctor would see me shortly, less than 10mins Dr.Shayfer walked in. He introduced himself & asked questions about my injury. He did not rush me, was not rude....he was very pleasant, very nice, listened to all my questions, and answered every one of them. Dr.Shayfer did not push surgery. Instead of 6-8 treatment plan, his suggestion was a 4week plan, again NO SURGERY. I am very happy with Dr.Shayfer & his office. Soooo, my advice....give this office a chance to prove themselves. RIP-OFF! AVOID THESE UNPROFESSIONAL FRAUDS!!! Trust me, I am not a serial Yelper who just takes jabs at every place that I visit. But please, for the love of your hard-earned cash, DO NOT GO HERE! I had an ailing thumb and went in for a simple exam -- and I cannot stress the word "simple" enough. Dr. Shayfer looked at it with his bare eyeballs and couldn't figure out why I was experiencing pain. He proceeded to apply pressure to my thumb until it began to hurt. No fancy tests were ran and he suggested that I purchase a thumb brace from CVS, so I paid the $40 co-pay and bought the aforementioned brace. Fast forward four weeks later, I look in the mailbox and see that the visit actually costed $403! After insurance was applied, I owed them $112.15 virtually for nothing. Dr. Shayfer did absolutely nothing but suggest a thumb brace and I owe him and his fraudulent practice $112?! Smells fishy, right? Well, that's because it is! And just for contrast, two weeks ago I went to the dentist and had two wisdom teeth removed and paid less than $60, so imagine the shock on my face after discovering that I owed him nearly twice that amount for far less services rendered. Currently I'm in the process of filing a complaint with the state of California regarding this matter. It's completely fraudulent and it's horrible places like this that make people afraid to visit a doctor or specialist for fear of being taken advantage of, which is the only thing they seem to do well here. Save yourself the trouble and DO NOT make an appointment at this hole in the wall, farce of a practice because they're straight up crooks with a license to milk you dry from the moment you set foot in their unfriendly office. read more

Prior to a referral appointment with Dr. Shayfer we had multiple evaluations by competent doctors offering no solutions for my husband's pain. He is still experiencing pain 24/7 as well as the immobility of several fingers one year after emergency surgery for compound fractures in one arm following a head-on collision. Dr Shayfer has incredible credentials having studied at top universities. The moment he entered the exam room there was a difference in this doctor. His calm demeanor and concern was immediately apparent. He asked many pertinent questions and we had a detailed discussion following our numerous questions. He suggested x-rays of the hand, the first time this was suggested as the focus was always on the arm. He reviewed the x-rays in detail and we proceeded with yet another informative discussion. He wanted to minimize the need for additional surgery first and offered a cortisone shot. I was amazed watching him for 10 minutes as he carefully used ultrasound while consulting with his assistant to find the exact place to insert the injection. We returned to the office 2 weeks later and unfortunately the cortisone did not offer relief so we proceeded to the surgical options. More importantly he was the first physician able to determine why the pain persisted. He was optimistic that the surgery would help the pain but would not restore his arm to pre-accident condition. The honesty and compassion was refreshing. I wanted to add to the excellence of his total team of assistants and front desk staff. We are preparing for surgery but wanted to post this to offer our total confidence in Dr. Shayfer. read more

I've waited 2 months for an appointment and finally made it in the lady at the front desk is not knowledgeable of computers and can't even check my insurance. Then when I am so frustrated because I need this steroid shot to work and offer to pay out of pocket. They have a complete file on me I was specifically referred for the shot and I have a cd with x-rays he says he must charge an extra 200 ontop of the 300 for the shot . I had surgery on my finger. He botched the surgery, left blue stitches under my skin that are visible, and wrote such vague instructions to the physical therapist so that she was bending my finger after surgery - only to find out a month later that he DIDN'T want her to bend my finger during PT. Too late. My finger was already damaged. That was over a year ago. My ring finger does not work. It's slightly bent, permanently, and has the visible blue stitching at the joint. I did see two doctors at SCOI after this terrible experience, and they both said my finger is a mess and they cannot do a thing. Perhaps he's better at other body parts, since he has good reviews. So I'd say if you need finger surgery, go elsewhere. read more

The ER gave me bad information about a broken bone. The ER said it was a clean break, no surgery needed. But to be safe, see an ortho. I called this doctor and was told I needed to fill out paper hand-written forms in advance. As a hand surgeon, I might suggest PDF forms that people can type into. Good chance a lot of your patients can't write. I had 0 ability to write. I had a broke wrist. I was also told by a very rude lady on the phone that the doctor would not see me if I did not fill out the papers and that no one in the office could help me. Visit #1: I will say one nice thing about his office. Another lady, not the one that I spoke to before I went there, personally drove me to the CT scan I needed on her way home from work. I think she felt bad for me because the doctor and the other lady at the front desk were so rude. Visit #2: Next day I show up with my CT scan disc. Doctor looks at it and decides I need surgery. This is exactly how he told me: (doctor typing on his computer, looking at my CT scan and not at me): "yah, as i thought, you will need surgery. we should do it as soon as possible" I was totally shocked and horrified because this was new information to me. I looked shocked, I am sure. But he had no idea cause he was typing away. Me: "Seriously? Are you sure?" Dr: "Do you live alone?" Me: "Yes" Dr: "I'm sorry" I got up and stumbled out of there, shocked, upset, and not knowing what to think. It was that moment I decided this man was not cutting into my right arm. I have no idea how good of a surgeon he may or may not be. But he had zero ability to delivery shocking news to someone that they needed major surgery.
