We took our Subaru Forester to Hohl Subaru in Carson City just before Closing on a Thursday. We talked with Erik Fletes and he checked to OBD codes and said it was probably a thermal control valve. He got the car in for service on Friday, told us the service was covered by Subaru, and provided us with a loner car. On Friday Erik and the Service Tech, Ryan Coots sent us a video of what the inspection of the car showed as issues, and we got back to Erik as to what we would like repaired on the car. I bought three different cars from Subaru (the first in Reno and the last two in Carson). The first experience at Carson was less than impressive as we were quoted a price, which was even listed on their website, drove 45 miles only to be told that they could not give us the car for that price as it was marked incorrectly. We had to leave and drive all the way home and they called and said they could make something work which showed me that it was just a game to them. I recently came in to get the electric car and was told that they sold them all (however they were still on the website as being available). They said that they could get one from a dealership in California. They said I was "first on the list" and I even paid a $1000 deposit. The sales person called me and said there is a red one but I had to decide with ten minutes. I told him I needed to talk to my husband first and then he texted me and said that he was just going to sell it to the next person on the list. When I reached out to Matthew Hohl (2 phone calls and three emails) I received NO RESPONSE. Unfortunately this kind of customer service comes straight from the top. I absolutely LOVE Subaru's however, I purchased a Lexus from Dolan Lexus yesterday and I was treated with respect and had the BEST customer service! I can't imagine a worse car dealer. They will not commit to a price. I used the eprice link on their website to ask for a price with their current zero percent financing special. It took a week for them to give me a price. They said they were getting management approval. I immediately accepted and the manager immediately rescinded the offer because the price didn't go with the financing offer- despite the salesperson and I discussing it in every email leading to the offer. I went to the dealership to confirm the exact trim package I wanted. The salesman kept saying prices were much lower than marked because of next year cars coming, but couldn't or wouldn't give an actual price. I gave him my email to send me the price and never got any response. I tried the website again and asked for the price with the normal Subaru Financing. They only reiterated the full price with zero percent financing. Because they wouldn't give a price, I gave an offer. They didn't reject my offer or give a counter offer, they just told me it was sold. They have 3 three identical cars in stock but still won't say how much. They seem more interested in be vague and obtuse than just trying to sell cars. I fowarded all of this to the manager and general manager also with no response- so I presume this is just how they operate. read more

Recently, I had a great experience after a tire blowout north of Carson. We were on a road trip down to Lone Pine CA when I picked up a small bolt on 580 southbound on the Galena Bridge. After AAA got us back on the road, and needing the tire repaired, I went to Subaru to see if they could help us out. Indeed, they did. The tire was repaired, and we were on our way. Best part? First off, I want to commend Jeff Patterson for being a great salesperson and helping us out throughout the challenging car buying process at Michael Hohl Subaru. If it wasn't for him we would have not purchased a vehicle there, and I would do business with him again in a heartbeat if he was at another dealership, or was the sales manager. That being said I would never do business with this location again, because of Nick Reinhardt, and he will be the reason I will be filing a complaint with the BBB and FTC. We found the vehicle we purchased online and reached out before driving 2 hours over Donner Pass in a snowstorm to confirm the vehicle was still available at the listed price. We arrived and test-drove the vehicle and worked with Jeff to start the paperwork. We told him we were not interested in any optional add-ons, and he spoke with his manager who wanted to leave the extended warranty and Lo Jack. Once again we told him we were not interested, and allowed him to run our finances. After the finances were run, the sales manager "Nick" stormed into the office we were sitting in, so heated that he accidentally kicked the car the seat that my 2-month-old son was sitting in. He told us the Lo Jack was required and we had to purchase it with the vehicle. I told him I thought Lo Jack was an optional add-on, but he said no it is not optional. My wife mentioned the facts from the FTC Napelton case on the matter, but he once again said it was not optional. At that point, we agreed that we still wanted to purchase the car, and would pay the cost, but believed it should be optional. We had driven 2-hours in a snowstorm to pick it up, and being military members, would not have much flexibility to return. When we moved on to the final purchase of the car, Ian, tried to sell us all the additional options, and we declined. We once again told him that we did not want the Lo Jack, but he said his boss said it was not optional. When completing the Lo Jack documents, I pointed out how all 3 times they all said it was an optional service, but he confirmed all 3 times it was not optional and we had to pay for it. After that, we completed the transaction feeling deceived, since the "non-optional" Lo Jack was not included in the listing, and was not mentioned before we had driven 2 hours, over Donner Pass in the snow to see the car. We would have been happy to purchase the vehicle for the additional $799, but felt very deceived that it was not disclosed to us before we made the drive, and that even though it was listed as optional, it was not optional for us. read more

I bought my Subaru from Michael Hohl in 2017 and it was a smooth, non eventful process and to date, I am still happy with this choice. I was reminded of that just last week when we experienced "snowmaggedeon" In Northern Nevada, and our roads were not plowed for 4 days. Loved the way it handled it's AWD. Felt safe and in control. The folks at Michael Hohl are still in contact as I am looking to upgrade to the larger Subaru. Right now, the older models have a recall, so I will wait until that passes, but customer service is diligent, friendly and very helpful. Prices are comparable. Maybe more economical. read more

Upon contacting MICHAEL HOHL SUBARU OF CARSON CITY NEVADA, and being provided options that did not work in my favor due to my schedule, Mark Reynolds, assured me that they would promptly send someone to fix the dent, emphasizing their commitment to customer satisfaction. However, this promise turned out to be nothing but empty words. To my dismay, after several follow-ups and assurances that someone would be assigned to address the dent, I received a sudden cancellation notice the morning of the scheduled date to do the repair. Their excuse, per Nick Reinhart? and I quote..... They pulled the service because; a) "I left a bad review", b) "I would not allow them to come take my NEW vehicle for an undisclosed amount of time to let their contracted company work on it. Which per Mr. Customer Service Reinhart stated I needed to 'make an appointment.' " and c) "because I "was not playing by their rules" according to Nick Reinhart. Leaving me responsible for the repair costs." Pretty vindictive because I did not answer their survey questions favorably. This lack of accountability and failure to honor their commitment is beyond frustrating, especially considering the car is barely a month old. Not only did they fail to deliver on their promise, but they also left me in a situation where I have to bear the expenses for a dent that was overlooked during THEIR inspection process. The entire experience reflects poorly on the integrity and reliability of MICHAEL HOHL SUBARU OF CARSON CITY NEVADA. A dealership that initially appeared professional and customer-oriented turned out to be indifferent and unhelpful once the sale was finalized. Their disregard for honoring promises made during the purchase process leaves a bitter taste and raises serious concerns about their credibility and commitment to customer satisfaction. I strongly advise potential customers to be cautious when dealing with MICHAEL HOHL SUBARU OF CARSON CITY NEVADA. This review covers my experiences with the Service Department for my 2016 Forester that I previously purchased new from Putnum Subaru in Burlingame, CA. All of my repair records transferred right over. Since our move to Genoa (about a year and a half ago), I've been here for 3 scheduled services and Starlink warranty work. The later was frustrating as 2 rounds of parts needed to be ordered, and I needed to call Subaru Corporate to file a dispute. In hindsight, the service department did what they could with Subaru's arguably narrow policy and the dispute (including subsequent Corporate support) actually helped the Service Department get the thing fixed without cost to me, or having them eat the extra work. In the meantime, I enjoyed a nice newer model Outback loaner for several days, and gained a fuller appreciation of my service of which I probably and unfairly gave too hard of a time, as we were working through the situation. The regular service appointments went smoothly and with few surprises. I was in and out within a few hours of my morning appointment time. Their service customer lounge was comfortable and coffee/sweet rolls were just a short walk away at the local donut shop. Hopefully, a little bit more than bottled water will be available in the lounge as COVID precautions fade. Of course a review is only as good as your last visit, and it's easier to be positive when you don't hear the dreaded "We've found a few things....". I'm a big believer that regular maintenance reduces the chance of surprises and increases vehicle like. But I still go into these situations hoping that tire, brake, and other discoveries don't rise up and bite me. read more

I was in contact with sales manager Corina Mueller about my interest in purchasing an Outback that they had in stock. At 1:35pm I received an email from Corina, which detailed the VIN # of the car along with the price. Because I would be driving from over 40 miles away, I called Corina to get a verbal confirmation of these details. When I received confirmation I told her I would be there within an hour. Upon my arrival I took the car for a test-drive, and then my salesman, Dom, presented me with the facts and figures. The price of the car was now mysteriously priced $500 higher. When I showed Dom the email, I requested to speak directly with Corina. My request was denied and there was no offer to honor the agreed-upon price. Very shoddy business practice. read more

Please do yourself a favor and go to Lithia Subaru of Reno instead. We are very disappointed with the deceptive sales tactics and lack of customer service at Michael Hohl. I've called three times and asked to talk to the general manager, Rick Haynes, and even left him voice mails, to no avail. That's pretty shocking when a customer calls and the manager can't even be bothered to call you back. We bought a 2020 pre-owned Subaru from the Michael Hohl dealership in October and were unimpressed with the whole experience, which took over four hours, at least three of which were waiting because either they don't have enough staff doing the paperwork or they don't care about the customer experience. We had to wait over an hour for the finance manager to take us into his office to complete the paperwork. And then we had to wait another hour while the car was "detailed"--when we finally got it the car had trash in the console and the previous owner's gum and napkins in the glove compartment. Apparently "detailing" means a car wash and nothing inside the vehicle. Worse, our daughter went to buy a car a month later and it took over five hours, about four of those waiting. More importantly, that finance manager, Ian Higgens was relentless in trying to sell upsell her and would not take no for an answer. He even lied to her and told her that I had bought an extra warranty on my car, which I had not. We are shocked by the lying and by the fact that when we called the dealership about it the misrepresentation, their first response was to say it was an honest mistake and that she could cancel the warranty. When I pressed them for some sort of gesture to apologize for misleading her, they offered her a measly free oil change! Rarely have I witnessed such poor customer service and accountability. read more

Tried to speak to a service writer, but no one would acknowledge me, and I felt I was being ignored. So I went to the parts department to purchase the wiper blades, and to no surprise, there was no one present to help. waited as long as possible for someone to come, till finally, I had enough and left. Drove over to NAPA Auto Parts, got in got out with wiper blades as good as OE, and with respect.
