Because of the chronic pain, I have created quite the neurological mess and a lot of my superficial muscles are turned on all of the time and doing the work. After a year and a half of PT, I was only getting worse. I'm 45 years old and was certain I was going to be in a wheelchair in months. I wasn't sure what to expect but I came in with an open mind. I chose to do 10 2 hour sessions of Rolfing and somatic experience work. After 7 sessions, I feel so much better and actually can sense when my body goes into the guarding mode. I also know how to calm my nervous system down on my own. Chelsey has been such a pleasure to work with and I'm 100% going to extending after my 10 sessions is up. Within my first session of Somatic Rolfing with Chelsey, I already felt that she helped me find a breakthrough in understanding the root of my pain and tension and was able to tailor the body work to me in a way that other providers were not. She also gave me strategies to help keep my pain away, long term, and was able to help me truly understand and accept myself better as a person and how my mental state and physical being are interconnected in order to help me find lasting relief for my pain (which had been degrading my quality of life for at least 3 years or more). Irina is one of the few people in the world I have found who can read the body inside out, offer intense immediate relief AND longer term repair, guiding the body back to healthy rejuvenation, fluid use, and tissue growth. An hour later again, the other side gave way too, and my neck elongated like a giraffe - my whole spine was freed of the girdle and felt I was reaching to the sky. My own "use" could not really shift it turned out, until the sticky scar tissue had a chance to let go -then the clumped up muscles had a chance to lengthen - and finally my skeleton had room to reach upward again, and I could return to my practice of a conscious opening and letting go. My spine had (I thought) shrunken over those years a whole inch, due to disk damage, but the next time my height was measured I was back to full height (6months later still retained that freedom Irina had brought me). The session she released fascia deep around and under my occipital joint - I could actually feel the brain stem pulling restricted and finally, release - it was as if her hands were actually deep inside the skull - I could feel the blood flow and spinal fluid rush in, my thoughts cleared, and ongoing cluster headaches / migraines I'd almost forgotten were there they were so constant, washed away. Pain I'd become accustomed to for several years, coursing throughout my entire neuro-muscular system was gone. This enormous freedom happened in a single one hour session. Irina listened to my body and catered the treatment completely to the deeper information she received. Irina re-educates your cellular, neuromuscular being as she works. She is truly brilliant.
