I've had to change PCPs probably 4/5 times over the years due to moves and insurance changes, and I don't remember having such a detailed initial visit as I did with Dr Chase. Poor staff experience. Called for an appointment after health insurance site indicates accepting new patients. Staff say, actually, not only are we not accepting new patients, we have a 1300 patient waiting list. "Have you let UHC now this?" No, they usually call us. UHC is the one of the 5 largest insurer in the state. It's not an unreasonable burden - arrogant medical industrial complex. read more

Doctor Chase has been my GP for years and a great one at that! Helped my through heart issues. Weight control done sensibly and good common sense remedies avoiding as many drugs as possible. Very health-conscious Dr. practical in the sense when drugs are needed there needed and if not thinking organically and naturally are part of his protocols. Dr. Chase will spend all the time necessary to understand YOU! I've had great conversations with my doctor which led to assistance in lifestyle direction to improve my health. My wife is also patient and we both truly enjoy his family oriented practice. I've held up on writing this for years. Why? Convenience- I live across the road. But I am done - I am currently sitting in the doctors office (not the waiting room) for over 30mins alone after sitting in the waiting room for over an hour. No reason, no reschedule, or call to explain. Nada. Now, if this was a one-off, I'd totally get it. Things happen. But its the thousandth time this has happened. The office as a whole couldn't run a bath, let alone a doctors surgery. If I acted in this manner at work, well, I'd be out of work. I've been Dr. Chase's patient for 2 years and am switching doctors today. Generally the problem is the difficulty to make an appointment, the cold demeanor of Dr. Chase and the unprofessional and misdiagnoses I've received. Different things that happened over the two years: -No one would call me back to set up an appointment unless I paged the doctor after a couple days of waiting -Very little flexibility in days/times to make appointment -When at appointments had to wait very long times (appt. at 9am didn't see doctor till 9:45) -I tested positive for an STD and was never contacted or informed until my next appointed months later: "You knew you tested positive after that test, right?" What! -Misdiagnosed with scabies -Cold formal demeanor, very little empathy -Referred me to a skin specialist who was sarcastic and blamed me for a skin irritation- jerk! -On my last appointment, was waiting for 45 mins to see the doctor when the nurse comes out and says "He won't be in till 10" Why didn't he call and say he would be late? I notice all the very low reviews mostly have to do with having to sit in his office for 20 minutes and nothing about his medical skills and abilities. Can't comment on his bedside manner since I never actually met him, but this has to be some of the poorest customer service I've ever encountered. Just like Ben C. I have experienced calling several times with no return call. I recently experienced a traumatic event in my life and called for an appointment to get a referral to a physician that could prescribe anti-anxiety or anti-depression med's. I was feeling pretty low and said as much...I believe I even said it was urgent for them to call me back as I was an emotional wreck...no return call. I have NEVER had a history of depression so i was pretty worried...still, after several calls...no response. This office simply doesn't care. Many times you'll be dumped onto the PA who has the personality of a stump. Every visit I made to this office made me feel like I was inconveniencing them just by being there. They suck! read more

Wow, I really wish I had read these reviews sooner so that I knew this was not normal doctor's office behavior....the never answering the phone tactic. I seriously think I have put my health at risk because they have been my primary care giver and I can never schedule an appointment. My life is very busy, and when you have to call a doctor 7 times to finally get through to someone, you tend to let scheduling fall through the cracks, and days turn into months before you realize you've gone a long time without a checkup. I have finally got my act together and located a new doctor...I was amazed how easy it was to find an office that actually answers the phone and is extremely personable and could schedule me right away. I don't know what the deal is with Dr. Chase's office or how they still have any patients. I'm a new patient of Dr. Chase so for my first appointment I saw his nurse practitioner. I actually haven't seen Dr. Chase but based on my experience with the NP, I know he will be great. The NP was very friendly, knowledgeable and thorough. She listened to my concerns and spent a lot of time getting to know me even though their office was busy and she was running late. She even asked about my personal life which showed that she really cares about who I am. I know some people can be wary of NP's instead of an MD but don't be--she is more knowledgeable than the MD I saw previously. read more

Michael is definitely in this for the money and not for the care of the patient. He is the only Sutter doctor in Northern CA that is demanding $500 annually for the "privilege" of being his patient whether or not you see him. When I called Sutter to check on this practice they told me that they had never heard of any doctor doing such a thing. read more

Dr. Chase is the best doctor I've worked with. I've been seeing him for the last two years and have been extremely pleased with him. He is very kind, patient, listens well, and has a great staff. I highly, highly recommend him. I am editing this review after my last office visit at which time the staff were very helpful and friendly. I've also given Dr. Chase five stars, which he deserves. The only drawback to Dr. Chase's practice is that he is so good you will have to wait two to three weeks to see him. Additionally appointments are usually late, no fault of Dr. Chase's as this is due to other people arriving late and throwing off the schedule for the rest of the day. read more

Dealing with this doctor has been the worse experience for my partner. Never returned calls even after stressing each time that my partner was in pain. Mr. Chase needs to find another profession and shame on the office staff for not returning calls they are as guilty as he is. More or less the same experience as the others. The doctor and his office simply dont care about their patients. Dr. Chase is indifferent to the concerns or pain of his patients. He actually told me, when I complained about range-of-motion issues that "a lot of people your age are worse than you"....end of subject. He did NOTHING to help me manage my arthritis and muscular/skeletal issues except prescribe (?) Tylenol. The office is badly managed and chaotic. It's not unusual to have to wait 20 minutes while the nurse handles another call. They always want you to schedule an appointment before a referral even though the doctor has seen you a number of times for the same problem. I experienced everything that the guy above me mentioned. They have a nurse practitioner who I would see most often ( Susan ). She would never listen to me, would not hear me out on things. I told her that I have a history with drug abuse and have been in recovery and when I told her I was going through bad time with a certain medical problem she insisted that I take an extremely addictive narcotic to deal with it. I find him to be arrogant, over blown , pedantic. He doesn't listen to patients because he already knows everything. He casts the Hippocratic oath out the window at his own whim. For example I missed an appointment and he was pissy he thumped a prescription request and said to me "I'll fill write this prescription on your next appointment. If you miss it don't bother." In so doing he violated Hippocratic oath of first cause no harm denying me medicine for which I need and have gotten any times in the past. No the medicine isn't class 1 medication. I say this after his being my MD for 20 some yrs. So if you're into masochistic experiences by all means hire him. read more

So. Margot Chase, my PA, is very nice, but by the time I actually get to see her I'm usually grumpy. Telephone access is virtually nonexistent, and I never wait less than an hour in the waiting room. HIPAA at the front desk is ignored completely. My advice: make an appointment if you can, then show up an hour late. You won't miss you appt. And they probably won't even notice. read more

I have been a patient of Dr Chase for close to 20 years. Beyond the returning calls issues, which I agree with, Dr Chase is reluctant to refer to other doctors. I have had allergy issues, so he prescribed 3 different allergy meds just to see if they worked without actually doing a series of tests to see what I am allergic to. Finally I had to ask for a referral, and he acting surprised. This has happened with other issues as well. He also doesn't carefully keep track of my ongoing issues and ask about them again in later visits. He will ask about a few things, but not everything, so if I don't bring it up its never followed up on. I think he is trying to improve this with a new digital record keeping system. All that said, I think he is a competent doctor when faced with a serious issue. You just have have to be proactive read more

I called Dr. Chase, the on-call doctor (who is not my regular doctor) this weekend because I had a child with an ear infection. My regular doctor had prescribed antibiotics for her twin sister, and since they had had many of the same symptoms all week (except ear pain) she felt it likely the second would get one too, so she put a refill on the meds. Of course my insurance wouldn't refill it so soon, so I called to explain this to Dr. Chase, sure he would call in another prescription. THREE PHONE CALLS and THREE HOURS and HE NEVER CALLED ME BACK. Meanwhile I had two crying girls who were in pain. I finally refilled the meds and paid cash for it, bypassing the insurance, in order to get my daughter better. That kind of service is unacceptable to me. I finally called the service and told them to check to be sure he hadn't been in an accident or something, since they told me they had paged him right away each time (and the service said "oh you are the one with the twins" so it wasn't like he was overwhelmed with calls). If he were my regular doctor he would be no more. And my regular doctor, who calls back quickly and even made house calls to my dying father, will hear about this as well. Dr. Chase has been my primary care physician for over a decade. I appreciate that he takes the time during physical exams to check out everything that is of concern, and never seems rushed even though he seems to have a high patient load. He takes a prudent approach to medication and treatment. His staff has always been very helpful and accommodating. read more

Dr. Chase has been my primary physician for three years. After reading the two negative reviews, I decided to post my review. I can't disagree with the fact that Dr. Chase if often late for his appointments and his office his hard to reach, but the reason I see Dr. Chase is for the excellent medical care I receive. One of the reasons he is late is because he spends all the time he needs to with each patient. I never feel like I received the 7-minute visit. He is very through and will refer you out for appropriate tests to determine the cause of your medical condition. I find Dr. Chase to be very professional in his demeanor which I like and it makes it easier for me to discuss difficult matters with him. I have recommended him to friends and family. read more
