My only regret is not coming to Richard sooner. I have had 4 dog trainers before him and absolutely no one was able to create the positive change I have seen in my dog. My dog was dog aggressive, could never take her to a dog park, taking her on a walk or anywhere where we could possibly encounter another dog was a nightmare. She was stubborn and would listen to me maybe 50% of the time on a good day. Everyone told me to use positive methods, take her near a dog park and give her treats every time she looks at a dog. None of that worked. I was told she was reactive and I just needed to accept that. But my dog was so reactive and fearful she was not enjoying life. On the first day with Richard, I saw an immediate change, she was able to walk by a dog and not even bark or lunge or make a sound. It was crazy! Richard was right... coming into this my dog didn't trust me and let me tell you his methods not only improved my dog's life but improved my relationship with my dog. By the third day of training my dog was in the dog park, playing and running around with other dogs and you could see how happy she was, it was like a weight of fear was lifted off her shoulders, I could not believe it. Now I go to dog parks two to three times a week. At first, I was skeptical about e-collar training, but seeing how quick and effective it was and how knowledgeable Richard was with this I definitely grew more comfortable with it and am convinced there truly is no other way, but the most important thing here is Richard. He knows exactly what he is doing, I would not trust anyone else at this point. The Miami Dog Whisperer has my absolute highest recommendation, I will only train my future dogs with him. Made me buy an electric shock collar for my 10lb dog in order to "train" her and then said that I needed to buy a new one because it must not be working correctly. These things were not cheap. Not for every dog. Much of what the trainer said made sense, but in the end the trainer did not work out. I have a toy breed dog and the young trainer had me use a prong collar on the dog which caused the minor target correction behavior to result in a major behavioral problem. I sought another training method which resulted in success. read more

Rich is amazing! We have a 1-year-old Boxer that was not only mischievous at home but had recently turned dog-aggressive after being attacked in a dog park.... I have three American bulldogs, and if you know anything about American bulldogs they are huge! I was having a serious problem with them fighting and not getting along, so I went to several places, and called different trainers, but sadly I had no results. two months ago, I contacted The Miami Dog Whisperer because my friend spoke very highly of him and his staff. She had a dog that was blind and Richard helped her train him and he also helped her with other rescues she had in the past. She said he is a true dog lover and honest person, so we called. I spoke to Stacy first who was very helpful and informative. She was also very patient with me, I had A LOT of questions believe me. Then she made an appointment with me to come out and meet my family and the dogs. She was great and my husband and I felt hopeful for the fist time because this was our last chance, or we would have to send the dogs to the shelter (which I did not want to do, because I love our dogs) Richard Heinz was our trainer, and from the moment he stepped in our home, I felt a huge difference in our dogs. He was the Alpha, It was extremely apparent, and my dogs just sat and looked at him. My husband and I were shocked. He came over with another trainer, who was filming our class, which we agreed to do. Richard went over different options and training methods we could use for our particular problem. He answered all our questions and we fell in love with his confidence. Sure enough, we followed his advice and saw results immediately. I was blown away by how quickly he was able to succeed where others had tried and failed in the past. So, here we are two months later, and we just had our last class with Richard. Amazing results, and we were frankly sad to see him go, every Saturday we got used to having him come and work with our dogs. They were also very good about accommodating our crazy schedule and occasionally Richard gave us two classes in one week if we needed a little extra help. It was very convenient since it all was done in our home. The dogs are great, they don't fight any longer, and my husband and I are now in-charge of them, and not the other way around. I had the opportunity to meet other clients of The Miami Dog Whisperer, and everyone I spoke with was thrilled with their program and their results. I can't say enough good things, he saved my dog's lives!!!! That being said, Richard doesn't come cheap, although there are different programs, for different budgets, it was a bit more than any pet store training, but so well worth it. Would not recommend. I understand this was not positive dog training but Richard was excessively aggressive with my puppy. I couldn't take it anymore being around him telling me to turn her shock collar up to levels I knew weren't safe for her. She'd cry when he shocked her and he wouldn't bat an eye. It felt like he didn't really care about how he trained her he just wanted it done. The entire process was rushed and even with his word saying she will be trained by this date the date never arrived. My dog now has PERMANENT anxiety issues from this aggressive training. My vet even recommended I not go back. He's cheap that's for sure but it comes at high emotional price that neither me or my puppy will ever recover from. read more

I own an Australian Shepherd. Very intelligent, very alpha-male and often aggressive with other dogs. I tried a dog trainer who had absolutely no effect on the dog's aggression, constant leash pulling, failure to obey commands, etc. In just a few sessions, Richard changed this dog's behavior. I am able to walk and jog with him off leash. He doesn't lunge after other dogs (let along motorcycles, bicyclists and even convertibles), and he is even more affectionate than he used to be. read more

We bought an eleven month old, trained Golden Retriever puppy from the Miami Dog whisperer about a year ago. I could not imagine a better scenario with either the "product" or the service. My wife and I have both had dogs all of our life so we recognized that when it came to puppies we are both weak in the training department. Then for 15-20 years we are bonded with a part of the family that still has lingering naughty puppy habits. Also, since we travel a large portion of the year we wanted a dog that was ready to go sooner than a newly weaned puppy would be. Our dog Teddy has quickly meshed with our family, bonded with our eight year old child, and adapted to our traveling routine. He is welcome at all of our family's and friend's houses. When he goes to town with us he is welcome at many businesses and gets along with every other dog and cat he meets. He is well trained but definitely not a robot- regularly engaging in all the normal dog stuff. I could go on and on about Teddy but then the review just sounds like a guy doting on his dog. What really earned the five stars from me was a problem we had in the first month after we picked up the dog. It was not a general training issue but related specifically to our situation and environment. Richard and Mary were both available on the phone and via email to help but we couldn't resolve the issue ourselves. Ultimately, Richard drove six hours to our house, corrected the problem, spent more time showing us how to reenforce Teddy's training, then drove six hours home. I think that was an amazing length to go to make a customer happy and I hope that anyone reading this won't make him do it again. I highly recommend this way of getting a dog and I very highly recommend the Miami Dog Whisperer. read more

If you are looking for a good dog trainer, this is not the service/trainer you want. Very diligent, helpful and courteous when I was looking for information but once I paid, everything changed and it was a horrific experience. They disappeared and trying to schedule sessions was nearly impossible (and with a bad attitude) - I sometimes had to follow up up to 3 times to get a text back. And then, all the scheduling was done last minute. Finally, they cheated me out of two sessions and when I asked for the dates/times of the sessions they said I had already completed, the answer was they couldn't share that information as their server crashed. I feel as if it's a scheme to get your money. Definitely not a service oriented business. I do not recommend it. The only reason I put 1 star is because Yelp won't let me publish without a star...but they don't deserve any. read more

I called different trainers to get my Terrier/Beagle mix puppy Snoopy trained. The Miami Dog Whisperer, Richard, Stacy, and his office manager Mary were by far the best choice for us. They took the time to meet with Snoopy and Me and determine what the problem was and how to fix it. In a few months of training sessions, Snoopy passed his Canine Good Citizen Certification. During the testing he was the best trained dog in the group and performed great! He has maintained his training for several months now and when we go out in public he is a perfectly behaved pooch. Was not helpful for us. We spend nearly $1000 and had to send our dogs away for 10 days, and they have not improved at all. I did not found the program helpful, as they said they couldn't "break" my dog, and suggested we start using a electronic collar. One of my dogs was getting aggressive with my other dog when someone would knock at the door. Nothing serious, the point of calling the trainer was to prevent it from getting serious. They took them for 10 days, and came back saying the only thing that would work is an electronic collar. Although hesitant, we used the collar consistently and still have seen little progress. read more

This training works and is the best! Please realize that the two other stories are only two stories. If you commit to the technique and have an open mind about the psychology of dogs, you will get more than you ever expected. I had Richard Heinz himself train my dog, and she, Dolly, is the envy of the neighborhood and all that meet her. It's not about the electric collar or prong collars, it's about treating a dog like a dog and learning to understand what they need and how to treat them. I think it is cruel to bring a dog into a human world and expect them to respond like a human. I have the dream dog because he taught me to be the leader in the house and therefore she follows me with respect and love. She is the happiest dog on the planet and that is the first thing people notice about her. She loves people and other dogs and does not have an aggressive bone in her body BECAUSE OF THE TRAINING! She started out as a normal puppy - nipping, not listening, not able to walk on a leash. Within on a week, as soon as she learned that I am the boss (again, through the training) - she followed my command. Not through cruelty - through speaking their language. You must give this a try. Richard knows that the training is mostly with the client - which I think he cares about deeply. And of course, he love dogs. Seriously, all people say when they meet her is "what a well trained dog! How happy she is! Wow, she actually listens to you!!" She doesn't cower or whimper. She lives to please our family and is pure joy every day. I never imagined our life with this dog would be so great. Seldom in life do you get more than you expected. This training is that dream. read more
