Guaterico Deli is really not a Deli -- it's a kick-ass, authentic, hole-in-the-wall Guatemalan food…read morejoint right smack in the middle of Trenton. The food is deliciously greasy, it's freshly made, and the flavor/salt balance is outstanding. You know this place is the real thing when you see all the locals pour in after a hard day's work and order in their native language, and everybody knows everybody there. My GF and I kept talking about this food for a while and raved about it to our friends. The menu is written on a dry-erase board, and it's all in Spanish. They do have a menu translated to English at the cash register, though. So far, we tried their Chorizo Tacos and Chicharron (pork cracklins-stuffed) Pupusas. Both choices were outstanding. Chorizo sausage was very flavorful, and the pupusas were outstanding as well. The side sauces are really tasty. We paid $12 for those the 3 Chorizo Tacos and 3 Chicharron Pupusas, so the prices are outstanding. And let me tell ya -- that's a LOT of food!! If you're concerned about the area, don't be. We went there at 7 PM, and it's a well-lit area, with a lot of food traffic. You don't want to wear flashy clothes, but if you dress real casual and don't flash expensive stuff, everything will be just fine. Just smile and great people -- everyone's pretty friendly.

Then they took another hour and we called to cancel the order. They said the person just left, so they basically lied and then they were rude enough to Hang up the phone. Don't order from this place! They are rude people and not responsible.

The booths that once bore great tomato pies, are now primarily for Guatemaltecans to enjoy the superior comidas that come out of the new kitchen. The place is clean, with Tiffany-style light fixtures descending from the ceiling, and a very friendly, bilingual staff ready to assist this first time customer. The lunch menu is fairly comprehensive with variations of beef, chicken and pork used as primary ingredients in styles Asada, Empanizada, a la Mexicana and Encebollado. They also do the traditional Tostados, Quesadillas, Burritos, Tortillas and Tacos. I ordered the Pechuga Empanizada (Breaded Chicken Cutlet with Rice and Black Beans), and Jugos Naturales de Pina (Pineapple Juice). The plate came with Black Beans and White Rice. It was very big for a lunch. There were two large, thin breaded chicken breasts, lightly browned, with a wedge of lime for seasoning. A couple of raw onion rings, slices of radish, and a pile of lettuce completed the performance. I cut everything with my fork and enjoyed every bite. All was tasty, complementary, and filling (I did not finish the rice). The Pineapple Juice was cool and refreshing with a nice bite of just juiced pulpy fruit. This was an excellent lunch in a comfortable setting. At under $10 for everything (plus tip), I was very satisfied, and happy that another historic Italian house was now transformed into an equally qualified newcomer from Central America. Buena Suerte!

Well, I am here to tell you to stop in and eat everything off the menu, because it is AMAZING! We have been here twice and both times were good, but breakfast was better. I ordered the Gallo Pinto, which is a Costa Rican dish that includes black beans mixed with rice, a meat, fried cheese, egg, sausage, sweet plantains and a tortilla. The rice alone is worth having, so definitely give this a try. It is a magnificent spread that can feed two or good for sharing with a hungry toddler like mine. Hubby had the Chifrijol (black beans, white rice, crunchy fried pork layered on top pico de gallo & avocado) which was JUST as tasty just a bit small on the portion compared to mine. But a bargain for the $10 price, so absolutely give it a try for the chicharron (pork rinds) alone! Now as far as the bakery goes, we ordered a slab (yes, a mean a slab) of their corn bread and it is the best thing I've tasted in a while. It is a combination of perfectly homemade mixed with hints of the motherland that really make it out of this world. Each additional bite made it more and more appetizing. Get this. My toddler also wanted pancakes which we got 3 kid portion pancakes WITH bacon for only $4! And for a Latin spot, they make amazing pancakes! I also have to add that the service here is great, the whole restaurant is sparking clean and so cute inside. You get warm bread as you wait for your meal. The coffee is phenomenal and comes in GIANT mug. I really can't say more except...come spend your money here....order grub hub from here...and let me know if you like it!

We are big eaters and our group had 4 people, ordered 3 plates and still had leftover. Favorite was the ceviche mofongo and fried pork on beans and rice.
