This place sells the best home made tortillas hands down! They also have an amazing selection of pastries and all Hispanic food. Be very careful about the total that you are getting rung up for. I've been in this store multiple times, and this is the second time that I've been rung up way over my initial total, in favor of the store. We went to the restaurant, and our total should have been around $10, but then the cashier tried to ring up our credit card for $18. When she got caught, she tried to give me $3 out of the register to make it up, but when I told her $8, she got a manager. Watch your totals before handing over your payment. The pupusas from the restaurant were doughy and the filling didn't have any flavor. Last time I went in I got tres leches cake and it was just a sugary mess swimming in too much liquid. The quality of the meat from the carneceria was really tough, chewy. So far, I haven't found anything worth going in to this market for, except cheap prices for low quality goods. I really want to love this place since it's the closest Mexican Grocery Store near me, and even then its about a 20 minute drive. Their meats are very low quality and the store always seems dirty. The employees have mixed customer service. Some are nice and helpful and some other are very rude. I tend to only go here if I absolutely can't find a specialty item I cant get at other grocery stores. read more

THE PRICE IS WRONG BOB Remember Bob Barker on "The Price is Right"?! Well he would have been pissed off here when trying to checkout because the prices were all wrong. I was loving this store until I tried to leave. The lady running the cash register must have been the manager because she was wearing normal street clothes while the other checkers were in full uniform. The manager has no clue. She was ringing up my produce wrong. Several times I had to stop here to tell her that wasn't the correct produce plus she kept charging me for higher price produce. It was exhausting. For example she charged me for a box of cilantro which was $1.99 when I was only getting one small bunch which was only 50 cents. These weren't small amounts but huge swings in favor of the grocery store. It was nonstop and every time I corrected her I got a mean look. I hope she understands she took what was going to be a five star review and made it a one star review. She then tried going faster and I totally missed a bunch of items the totaled around $4 to $5 in favor of the store. Unfortunately I had already paid with my credit card and when I looked at the service desk I realized my checker was the service desk. I decided to just walk and never return again to this location. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF AT THE CHECKOUT. YOU MUST WATCH THE SCREEN. I've not seen mistakes like this in a grocery store ever and if this was the manager and not some strange lady in street clothes then I would be very worried for this store. Is she training the checkers? A few of these mistakes per customer could add up to thousands of dollars in Up charges for the store. Maybe that's there scam here, well it has been noted by me and shoppers you have read my warning. Here's the good stuff that got ruined by the manager. There's a fresh salsa bar where you can get containers of homemade salsa. The produce prices are ridiculously cheap. Don't go to a larger store because you can't beat the prices on veggies and fruit here. The restaurant looked really good but I didn't try it because I wasn't hungry yet. The fresh meat counter looked great too. This place is old school. There's nothing packaged instead you select it from the butcher. I hate leaving one star reviews especially when they could have been avoided. It troubles me when the manager is the one ripping off the customers. What kind of message does that send? If you haven't been to a full-blown ethnic grocery store in a while (or ever), you need to put that on your short list of things to do... STAT! If you appreciate food and culture, there's nothing like immersing yourself in a place where people from other countries can feel comfortable and surrounded by things they may not encounter as often here in the US of A. Mi Pueblo Market is the Mexican equivalent of a Super Target, and walking through the store is like an instant trip south of the border. Here are some of the things you can find here: - A full bakery. You can pick from any of tens, if not hundreds, of different types of pan dulce (Mexican sweet bread) alongside fresh torta rolls, and all sorts of other bread products. They also make the most beautiful and delish cakes here. We got a gorgeous tres leches cake decorated with roses for my daughter's last bday party for like $15! They also make fresh tortillas onsite. - A butcher/seafood counter that runs almost the entire back of the store. You'll find some things that you might shudder at (chicken feet anyone?), but you can also get traditional Mexican cuts of meat, as well as some pre-marinated stuff. My favorite thing at the butcher? Fresh made lard. Yep. I LOVE homemade refried beans, and I've found out that lard is the secret ingredient. Sure, you can buy flavorless blocks of manteca at most major grocery stores, but Mi Pueblo makes it onsite, and let me tell you, my beans get REALLY happy with this glorious rendered pig fat (sorry, veggies). - Aisles and aisles of wonderful and exotic dried goods, canned goods, candies, snacks, sauces, drinks, cheeses, etc. I literally walk around with my mouth open at how much stuff they have that I've never even heard of, much less tried. Fun! - Things for the kitchen. Industrial lime presses that come in 5 different colors. Tamale steamers. Molcajetes. Those little wooden wand things they use to cook milk. And about 50 more things that I don't know what they are. - Awesome produce at ridiculous prices. Besides stocking things that you'll never see at Safeway/King Soopers, I'm amazed at how cheap their produce is. Where Albertson's is charging $2 for a single avocado, you can pick up one here for 69 cents. Limes 2 for a dollar at some places? Try 2 POUNDS for a dollar here. 79 cents for a mango, I could go on and on. - A jewelry counter. Ehhhh, not really sure what to make of this one. - An aquas frescas counter where you can get smoothies in combinations never heard of in Jamba Juice, but also fresh horchata, jamaica, etc. And nothing beats the heat of summer like a Big Gulp sized cup of sandia (watermelon juice) or melon (cantaloupe juice). - A full restaurant. Are you starting to see why this place makes me happy? We've only eaten there once, but the food was quite good, and again, incredibly cheap. Tacos are a buck a pop, and when we went, they had a special of 4 tacos and a soda for $3.79. Crazy. We tried the al pastor, carne asada and carnitas tacos and a torta. Not the best I've ever had, but def good enough that I would go again. Great salsa bar that had 5 or 6 salsas, along with radishes, cucumbers, roasted jalapenos, and get this, key limes! They've also got pupusas, whole grilled chickens, fried fish, pork stewed in green chile and lots more available. And did I mention the roaster out front, roasting fresh chiles for sale? Or the shaved ice stand? Or the cd stand? You won't hear a lot of English being spoken here, but most everyone you encounter will speak it (or will quickly run off to get someone that does). And they all do it with a smile. Maybe that's because I'm smiling myself? (Note: there are lots of Mexican superstores in Denver, like Avanza, and they're all pretty rad. I go to Mi Pueblo because it's closest to my house. Do yourself a favor and check one of them out. Easiest vacation you'll ever take.) Cheers! read more

I shop here for groceries and eat here at the small eatery inside. Its a fun adventure to say the least. This is mainly about the restaurant. The food is pretty good. The prices are very reasonable. It's super authentic. Almost too authentic. I only say that because I don't speak Spanish well. There is no English menu, nor are there many people who speak English behind the counter. Its a crap shoot if I have anyone there to explain to me what some of the items are. But, that is OK with me. I am on their turf its a free country and I want the authentic food. I have to say, the ladies behind the counter are very nice and try to communicate with me and many varying ways. Its fun :) I really like the dollar tacos here. Its the usual small Mexican soft shell taco on a double corn tortilla. The meat is great. I have tried all of them. I esp like the Le Lengua, Pastor, and Asada. They even have goat tacos if you are feeling adventurous. Not bad either. They have a fresh salsa bar filled with pico de-gallo and other forms of salsa. They have some light colored orangish salsa that I just love. Not too spicy and I can tell it is made fresh by them. I have had the fried plantains....... like starchy bananas. Plantains are sweet but in the way that a sweet potato is sweet. It comes with fresh soft white cheese and refried beans. Its a different type of meal but I like it. Reminds me of Cuban a little. The Ceviche here is REALLY good. The seafood is mixed with some fresh tomatoes, onions cilantro and of course lemon and lime to marinate the whole thing. It is put on top of a crispy corn tortilla with fresh avocado slices. So if you want Mexican that is Mexican and not tex mex American stuff give it a try. This visit to the Mi Pueblo Market in Thornton was definitely a unique experience, as I had never visited a full bore Latino grocery store and eatery all rolled into one. I purchased a chicken taco, which was made on the spot, and one of the many salsa varieties. Both were really good and priced right. The menu board had pictures for those that aren't fluent in Spanish. Some of the food items looked a bit pricey, but also huge portion-wise based on the photos. Besides the mainstream grocery store and eatery, there appeared to be some type of smoothie/shake beverages available, in addition to wide variety of products and services ranging from aguas frescas to international calling cards to a very well stocked carniceria. I can agree with some of the other reviewers that the place wasn't really 100% clean in comparison to some of the other supermarket chains, but then again, it seems like nothing in this part of town really is! Okay, so I'm cheating. This review should be only for the taco al pastor I ate as part of the most recent UYE taco tour. But I can't bear to do it. The al pastor was only okay, no pineapple and not very flavorful. I guess I should have asked for pineapple. The horchata was only okay, rather thin tasting and too light on cinnamon although still quite a pleasant drink. So far, a rather sad three stars and downcast hopes. But there were other things to consider: -- The price was right.. -- The foods in the hot display case looked very tempting. -- Along with many others of us, I had a hefty sample of ceviche. The ceviche was not on the menu; an astute Yelper remembered someone's review which said it was really good and asked for it. The serving was huge, cheap, and excellent. -- The salsa bar offered a great assortment. -- When the staff saw the line that was forming, a woman came out to take orders and write our tickets to speed things along. That's good service. -- The store looks like a fine place to shop. I am eager to come back to shop and try some of the hot foods on display. (But not at school lunch time. If you want REAL authentic Mexican food, this is the place! Ok, before you get all crazy, this is not your typical sit in dinner. Its a grocery store first, with a mini eatery. The wait time for some food is reallllly loooong! Like pupusas. Those take about twenty minutes to get to you. But you are getting food that is not frozen and served. These are from scratch, home made, just like mom used to make type of food. The prices are extremely reasonable for what you are getting! Most of the staff speaks Spanish, so those of you who don't speak the language, you can look at the pics and decide what you want. You will most likely not be disappointed in your selection! This place has been here, thriving, for almost 20 years and theres a good reason for it. The restaurant has some of the best menudo in the Denver Metro area. Super rich and flavorful with tender tripa and patas. Go to the bakery and get un bolillo con crema y jalapenos. SOOO GOOOD. Also the ceviche from the chick by the produce section is divine. So many good things to say about this place I dont have enough room to write. Anyone who knows good Mexican food knows about this place. read more

This is my favorite place for menudo. I like the way they cook the tripe and there's plenty of it. It's a long line and wait but it's worth it. I also get tortillas here because they're so fresh they're still warm off the comal! The check-out lines for groceries are painfully slow. I stood in line for 30 mins to buy 1 pack tortillas and they honestly were not that busy, they only had 2 lanes open. I am afraid of the meat, I won't buy it and the produce isn't pretty but you will get juicy limes. Their panaderia is good size with a wide selection. Their maranitos are dry though. read more

Went about a week ago and the street tacos went up from .99 ea to $1.50. AND BTW a BIG BONUS, THEY NOW TAKE CREDIT / DEBIT CARDS!! :))) Much more convienent as I rarely carry cash. Still good food, I ordered carne asada again & it was good. My daughter got the chicken tacos which were also street style and was delicious chicken that they prepare from a whole chicken then shred it which we really liked! We ordered two watermelon agua frescas, they gave us jamica by mistake - which I'm pretty sure is hibiscus - my daughter liked it better than the watermelon. I exchanged one of them without a problem, kept the other & she still gave me two more watermelon drinks, so that was cool... I gotta say I prefer pina agua fresca but the watermelon was good & the jamica was tart and tasty too :) My hubby & I go to Mi Pueblo every couple weeks for tortillas which we use one pack and freeze the rest, they freeze & defrost perfectly. We also get sweets from the panderia (bakery) section. The churros are very good, we had some stuffed with cream cheese & they were delic! Love their pina empanadas!! The only thing was that there weren't too many bilingual people, so you need to know Spanish. We were able to get some help from a gentleman to help translate. Two things I had forgotten about Mi Pueblo. One.. this is in a strip mall ACROSS THE STREET FROM A HIGH SCHOOL! Two... the food selection here is substantial and it all looks KILLER GOOD!. okay, there are three things I forgot. Three... high school, lunchtime, cafeteria food, cheap food nearby. Thornton may as well close their lunchroom. All the kids are eating up in here. I don't know if they've improved since last I was here long ago but the food was damn tasty. Good restaurant tasty. I do have to say that I think the flavors of their panaderia (bakery) items aren't quite up to Rancho L's but think of it as a good restaurant with just average desserts. Make that a 4 and a 1/2 (unless school is out, then give it the five.). read more

Typical Mexican market. I was very disappointed in the meat we bought (Carne Asada). It was very tough, hard and dry when grilled, usually that meat should be soft and juicy. Our cashier was so unbelievably rude! She wouldn't speak to us even when asked a question (and I speak perfect fluent Spanish). The bakery department was really good. There was a gentlemen that was VERY helpful to us and he was very kind (he's the reason I didn't do 1 star), wish I would of gotten his name so I can give him the well deserved credit. Awesome tacos! Freaked out a little bit when the total of my tacos and horchatas came out to almost $20. I also asked for one horchata but she prepped two which I did not mind. The pricing was right when she handed over the receipt. I've just been so used to paying $1 per taco in L.A. that the girl behind the counter looked at me so weirdly when I questioned the total amount (sorry!) Should've talked to her in spanish so our communication would be stronger. I will come back again to try more of the food and explore the market area for some goodies because all the tacos were so good and I felt right at home as soon as I walked in haha. read more

I'm originally from Cali, moved to Colorado about 2 years ago and have been going to numerous places looking for some decent real Mexican food like they do in Cali. We tried this place out recently as they have this area where they cook and serve food, asked for some asada tacos with a side of rice and beans, very disappointed. The beans were super watery, the rice looked more like yellow rice pilaf (this isn't Mexican rice!) and the tacos were just average. Nothing fantastic. So if you're looking for REAL Mexican food, this is not the place to get it from. The best tacos we've had so far are defintely from La Pradera in commerce city, but we are actively still trying new places. As for the grocery part, average too. read more

If you want a good place in Thornton that has great authentic Mexican food then this place is a must go! I usually like to come here because my work is right up the street. I like to swing by and get some food before or after my shift. Their carne asada and tacos el pastor are to die for! Plus their salsa bar is very spot on! I also like getting their horchata because its made just right. Not to sweet and not to subtle. Plus they have a great selection of Mexican candy too. The only reason I give it a 4 stars is because their bathrooms seem to be a little dirty and it is in the sketch area of Thornton too. I love this market. Their salsas are do die for! The woman who was selling the salsa at the front of the store is so sweet and happily helped me try each one she was sampling. I tried them all and buyed them all. Life is too short to not have a personal salsa bar from time to time. Their tortillas are delish too. The chips they make in house are crazy good. I've had similar at Whole Foods for 4-5x the price and that isn't an exaggeration. The bag of fresh chips at Mi Pueblo is 1.99. It is huge. The small bags of fresh chips at Whole Foods are $6. The bakery is amazing. I could walk around the store just looking at items for a good long while. I bought a little chocolate cake with icing and frosting- looked like a little Hostess type cake. It was 99 cents! It was sooooo good. Not overly stupid sweet like other bakeries. They had a gorgeous dulce de leche cake for 7.99!!! It was really hard to walk away from that but alas my thighs can not take having a whole cake in the house. I'm definitely going here for my birthday cake in a couple weeks.
