There is also a salsa bar, with around 6 different salsas, cilantro, limes, and onions. If you want something to drink, you grab from the cooler and you pay for your meal(s) when you leave. This is an authentic central Mexican style joint. The first time I was there, the carnitas were a bit dry, but everything has been on point since then. I love the variety of salsas, although my friend felt every one was a bit too spicy (wimp?). If you do not speak Spanish, it is very possible you and the cashier will be the only ones that speaks English.

The place was quite busy and nearly all the tables in the small restaurant at the rear were filled with customers enjoying el almuerzo (lunch). The shelves of the establishment were filled with an amazing array of Latino caned and packaged goods and a wealth of dried spices. The food being served looked appetizing; and the items displayed in the restaurant's showcase were appealing and plentiful. The golden brown Chili Relleno appeared especially yummy. The meat cooler was neat, everything moist and covered well, and the beef rump being sliced looked very fresh...and really tantalizing. (I wonder what they might have been planning to prepare with this. I asked if I could take a photo but they politely declined my request.) My hesitation about adding any more details comes from the fact that I felt slightly uncomfortable and did not stay long. The three employees with whom I had some conversation spoke limited English; and there was a bit of apprehension on their part. To be fair, I could attribute this to them not being familiar with a gringo speaking fairly fluent Spanish - albeit with a Colombian accent. (I have practiced and maintained my pronunciation with a Colombian accent over the years and have been mistaken for un Colombiano Nilense numerous times in the past - especially on the phone.) But who knows? It's legit Mexican food and probably the best Mexican food you'll find in the greater Nashville area. I don't trust what anyone else have said about the other Mexican restaurants in Nashville. I've tried most, if not all, of them. Taqueria Express food trucks are the best Mexican in Nashville. They're cheap and affordable. Their city inspection scores are higher than most actual restaurants. They're delicious. Their only weakness: limited options because it's a truck, after all.
