We visited mezeh on a Thursday around 12:15 hoping for lunch during a conference at a nearby hotel. The menu looked good, and honestly we really liked the food we got, but this place as a service issue. They had 4 people working: 2 doing prep, one just making online orders, and one doing in person orders. We arrived and it took 20 minutes for the 3 of us to get food with no one in line in front of us. I wouldn't think that it would take so long, but then I remember that usually places like this have the line split in half and sometimes a third person to ring orders up. By the time I got my food, there was a line of 15 people out the door, many of whom were from our conference and ended up leaving since we only have a 1-hour lunch break. The first 2 of us got a straight from the menu bowl, so it really should've been faster. I wanted a lamb bowl, but they didn't have any lamb (not having something in the menu at the beginning of a lunch rush immediately lost them a star) so I said I wanted to build my own steak bowl. The staff started automatically making me one of the menu steak bowls, so I continuously stopped them down the entire line and told them what I wanted. I think they were just confused, but it was irritating nonetheless. This place could've gotten 4 stars if they'd had lamb, 5 if they'd had lamb and had better service. I just can't justify going here unless you've ordered ahead because it took way too long. read more

I'm shocked by the reviews... Mezeh is my go-to and I prefer it over Cava here's why -- The food is always flavorful. I'm talking finger licking, scraping every piece of couscous and rice lol. The customer service is friendly. I've been at least 5x and each time I'm greeted with a smile. The portion sizes will last you at least 1-2 meals which is necessary if you're feeding boys/men or a hungry mama like myself! The prices are fair. I usually spend $14 here and that's sometimes with a drink included. Overall, I'd recommend Mezeh to anyone who like Mediterranean food or is in the University Area, looking for something good. And they have a solid rewards program. In January, they had BOGO. Now, after the discount was applied I did notice an up charge that the cashier couldn't explain but other than that, my experience has been 10/10. read more

Recommended by a friend, Mezeh is a chain with many locations. This particular location is popular with UNCC students due to proximity. The concept is pretty simple: You are going to end up with a bowl of Mediterranean food, and you get to choose what goes in it. Bases of salad or rice, a variety of meats, add some vegetables, sprinkle in some cheese, sauce, or hummus, and in a short run of rapid decision making you've got a huge bowl of food! Considering the serving size, the pricing isn't unreasonable, but it is still on the expensive end for a meal, especially if you add a drink. And as servings go, I will probably go with a junior bowl next time because the regular bowl is a bit too large. Service was typical of an entry level restaurant chain, with no smiles or small talk, but efficient. I personally prefer my Mediterranean food from locally owned restaurants where you get more personality and connections to the authentic meal. read more

I stay around this area when traveling and have always gone to Cava, but wanted to try mezeh though it seems very similar. Monday during lunchtime it was quite packed, which I took it as a good sign! However, I found out that Cava across the way was closed so that brought in even more customers and felt bad to the 4 workers hustling to get all the orders. I got a bowl with arugula and white rice, and they were out of chicken shawarma so I waited on that. I really liked some of the different toppings they had especially the crispy garbanzo beans. Everything tasted fresh and very flavorful. However since they were very busy, little things like their juice machine was out of juice and not refilled. so after visiting with the crew last week I came back in today because, well, you know... it was good and likely way better for me than the other lunchables up for consideration. still not entirely sure what I'm eating here so I went with a suggested house bowl of winter shawarma to simplify my life and because the flavor profile looked totally 'yes please' even without the arugulas... bulgur pilaf is a fun little item because in addition to the basic bulgurity there's raisin bits!! not quite two scoops but enough to add some bright to the base; so very thoughtful. add chicken shawarma and lentils; spicy feta dip, roasted corn salsa and caramelized eggplant; cherry tomatoes, pickled onion and a pinch of red cabbage (because I like red cabbages) plus a dose of cilantro vinaigrette on the side for safe transport... and add a cucumber soda traveller. got it home, got it open, got about half way through and called it on account of fullness. I love how Mezeh has a wide variety of tasty vegeterian options. I can enjoy a vegetarian meal with flavor when I come to Mezeh. They also offer meat options like chaicken and lamb. In my bowl I got spinach, white rice, chicken shawarma, tzatziki, and cilantro vinaigrette (as well as a ton of toppings). I also got baklava, which was tasty, but not a must get. I ordered a bowl with mixed greens, chicken shawarma, falafel, spicy feta dip, pickled onions, crunchy chickpeas, pita croutons, sumac cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, and tzatziki. For $16, the bowl was underwhelming. The chicken was lacking seasoning so it wasn't flavorful and I didn't finish the falafel as I didn't like the taste of it. The additional toppings were good but the mains (chicken/falafel) weren't near the same level. I also ordered a side of seasoned pita chips which were 'eh', also not seasoned as well, and a cookie which was still warm (lots of chocolate chips but it was a little burnt on the bottom). The employees were all really nice, and this restaurant is spanish-friendly. The orange decor gave a very modern look.
