There's banquets to share and a good range of dishes, all of which look good enough on the menu to take a hopeful punt on. In fairness, they ARE all worth taking a punt on! The bar is as well stocked as any restaurant bar and the wine list is... well... I'm not a wine expert so I wouldn't know. From the look of it, it seems good enough unless you're Oz Clark. The staff are all pleasant and clued up and, on certain nights, they have traditional Greek music and, well, let me just say that, if you're after a quiet romantic night in, avoid this one (ring ahead to find out when it is as I can't remember) as it can get a bit loud. He gets really involved with the people who eat there. Whenever I have been there, he has made me get up and dance with him on a table at the front. After the dancing he gets everybody outside and lets us all smash a plate. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is the best I have ever experienced in a restaurant. When we went a carafe of white wine imported from Greece was very reasonable price I think around £3.50/£4.00, it might have gone up now, who knows. They don't put a tip on as standard even for a large group - I prefer this practice, other restaurants please take note! The interior is nice, basic rather than luxurious but this adds to the atmosphere. They have a good drinks menu, I shared a carafe of red wine with someone and it was decent for the price. The menu has lots of choices, too many - I wanted everything! I had the deep fried halloumi in batter. It was delicious, perfectly done but I'd have preferred a better salad garnish, it just had 3 wedges of raw tomato with balsamic glaze. Friends shared the mezze platter and this looked great. Everyone said the starters were fantastic. I then had a steak casserole dish with star annise and cinnamon. The mains come with a choice of rice, chips, salad or roast potatoes. I went for chips and they were perfectly cooked, the rice looked good on other plates too. The meat was tender and the onions in my dish were lovely and sweet. I really enjoyed it. They brought out a piece of chocolate fudge cake with candles and sang for my friends bday, a nice touch. We all tried a bite of cake and the fudge icing was delicious. I had a medium sweet coffee which was the only down side of this meal for me. The Greek delight it came with (a piece of pink sweet very like Turkish delight) was amazing but the coffee itself was very bitter and full of grainy residue. A friend recommended this restaurant to us, so we decided to book a table and give it a try…read more Knowing that the venue has served as various types of restaurant in the past, first impressions were that it has been given quite a good makeover, right down to the colour theme of the island of Santorini. The welcome from the staff was friendly and we were shown to our table straight away and left with the wine list. Whilst not extensive, there are a number of Greek wines to choose from so we tried the Makedonikos, a medium dry white wine that went quite well with our food. Of course, being a Greek restaurant we had to start with a mezze, and there's certainly plenty to choose from here. We tried a small variety of dishes including the calimari, tzatziki and hummus, all of which were delicious. Next, the selection of main courses provides plenty of choice and we both decided to try the Stifado, a favourite of mine since I first tried it in Cyprus a few years ago. The beef is so well cooked here until it is really tender and just falls apart on your fork and the sauce is full of flavour. Highly recommended :) My only comment on the restaurant itself is that, although they've tried to capture the essence of Greece, it's not *quite* there yet. The lighting seemed just a bit too bright and behind the decor, the resturant seems just a bit too modern for a traditional Greek taverna. Hopefully this will change over time as the restaurant develops a bit more character - it is still quite new after all. Otherwise, the food is excellent and the staff are friendly and attentive. So when I spied the rather nice looking Meze I made a bee line for it. It's quite a swanky looking eatery, especially in the area it's in and inside it didn't disappoint either. The waiters were pleasant and efficient and it all looked promising. That promise was maintained throughout the evening. The food is Turkish and Greek and a cuisine I've not really sampled too often. I wish I had though if this is any standard to measure by. Really tasty starters and fresh, well cooked mains. The kebabs and Turkish rice was simply delicious. The wine list was also perfectly good and the price, although not cheap reflected the standard of the food. A must for lovers of this type of food.
