It came with fresh salad, tomatoes, pickled cabbage and carrots. For desert we were served fresh fruit, an assortment of honey dew melon, oranges, and kiwi and two baklavas. It was delicious. I was struggling to finish all three courses, but thoroughly enjoyed myself. The waiter is awesome because he helped us chose our lunch and helped us get the most for our money and he suggested the special because it came with the most food and on top of that it was delicious! For a layover: Just hop the train from the Stansted airport, it is the first stop. The train costs seven pounds (including the return fare...don't forget to book it together) and it is about a 7-10 minute train ride. As soon as you exit the arrivals gate you go through the the food court and straight down the ramp to the "Stansted Express" train. Donte get fooled by the bus line. If you don't go down a ramp then you are not buying a train ticket. The train ticket machines take cash and use credit cards. They give change if you don't have small bills. Simply pick the stop as Bishops Stortford and then add in first or regular class (first isn't worth the extra money, it is junk). To find this great dining spot just get off of the train and turn right and then head towards town. Turn left on a somewhat industrial street and cross the bridge. The first street to your right will take you to the restaurant and the second street takes you to the little downtown. When you get to the corner with Witherspoon's and Port Cafe look to your right across the river again and you will see Skew. It is a Turkish restaurant with vegetarian options even though the name or decor doesn't look Turkish. Looks more like an upscale club environment. The service and food was impeccable. First, it's not in the busy part of London where you would expect a restaurant of this caliber to be but rather it is in a very blue-collar neighborhood on the south side of London. It is a VERY cozy place with only seven tables but that is how they keep the quality and experience so great. The decor is as if you are on an old fishing ship. Reservations are highly recommended but we got there right when they opened (7pm) and thankfully they let us have a table. After being seated the hostess showed us the days specials and they ranged from fantastic scallops to lobster with every choice as good as the last. My wife and I chose the Chef's Choice 8 course dinner. The dinner comprised of a delicious sardine sandwich followed by a fillet of night perch which was then followed by lobster that melted in your mouth. Then we had a pallet cleanser of a light peach sorbet with a shot of vodka poured over it. The meal resumed with a grilled piece of pork belly (I got the "meat" choice) while my wife had a grilled hallibut (she got the "fish" choice). The next course was a warmed cheese (I believe it was gruyere) in pastry accompanied by a small mixed green salad with aged balsamic. The dessert courses were a delicious crepe with creme bruille filling and the end course was a pear puree along with a chocolate pudding with a hint of mint.
