The environment was mundane. The lady who serve us was one track minded, no pleasantries offered with the service. However, she was adequate! Upon leaving, we made the mistake to walk back to our vehicle by passing the back of the restaurant! Huge mistake! Visually, it looked like a mess and the entire area smelled like a sewer and could use sprucing up and even pressure washed or something! Gross ! Also, please keep soap in your restroom! Not sure how everyone is properly cleansing their hands without it!

The owner attempted to make us pay for the food we didn't even eat because...."if they cook it we have to pay something "!!!!!!! The owner made what could have been a salvageable bad experience into one of the only reviews I've ever left for anything.

Customer service was a 10 outta 10 my first visit! Oh yeah, you read that right. I ended up coming two days later after my first time lol. I guess I have to write 2 reviews lol. As soon as we were seated our drink orders were taken. Drinks brought to the table immediately. Looking around you can tell this is a family-oriented restaurant. A place where all families can come and enjoy good laughs, great music, and exquisite food. I ordered the Tottos Queso Dip as an appetizer. Never have I ever had a queso dip that good. Only negative thing I can say about it is that it's a bit watery/thin! Makes a huge mess if you're not careful. Taste is exquisite overall. Our food came out piping hot. Whoever they have cooking in the kitchen knows exactly how to put it down. The chicken, steak and shrimp were very tender. The steak a bit fatty, but everything tasted wonderful. I noticed the tables and chairs were clean. Floors clean and presentable upon entering. The staff were busy taking care of their patrons. If you're craving Mexican dishes this is the place for you. Don't take my word, GO TRY IT!

Today, all of the flour tortillas for each of the three meals was missing. The guacamole was missing on two of the side salads and sour cream was missing on the third. I can no longer give them a higher rating because they're consistently doing worse.

There is light industry employers in the area and has a nice atmosphere. Their downtown is modest, forming an "L" of businesses of all kinds, including Gene's. A cafe that serves just about anything. Very generous portions, very friendly service, very reasonable prices. Servers take your order at the table and you pay at the central cash register when you are finished with your meal. Very casual and probably has not changed their interior since the 1950s. Truly an American cafe. I only had a hamburger and iced tea and it was just over $10. Looking for good, affordable Mexican food in Lancaster? I'd choose this place over nearby…read moreMariachi's any day. Why? The prices are comparably better, the staff is friendly, and the food feels a lot lighter on my stomach than the brick that Mariachi's always seems to deliver. The people that work here are very friendly. My dad goes weekly, sometimes with a friend, and they ALWAYS remember them as well as what they order! Not all of them speak the clearest English, though, but I deem that a seal of authenticity! Don't see exactly what you want on the menu? Ask for it! I usually get a single chicken quesadilla with rice. The plate is always completely full and steaming hot when it reaches me; it's just the right amount of food. And for how much? Something like $4. You can't beat that! My dad usually gets the buffet, which has a bunch of different options. He and his friend even like their wings, which is surprising for a Mexican restaurant. The buffet also comes with a dessert item - sopapilla, a fried tortilla with cinnamon sugar, with optional honey to drizzle on top. If you ask, they will put a scoop of vanilla ice cream to finish it off! :) Their complimentary salsa is DELICIOUS, made fresh, and can vary in spiciness depending on the batch that day. The chips that come along with them are light and crispy. Best ones I've ever had. Overall, if you're a Lancaster resident, I'd recommend you give this place a try. You may just become a regular! EDIT: And to address the naysayers - let's remember here that we're talking about cheap Mexican food in Lancaster, SC. You're not going to get 5-star quality, but that doesn't mean it isn't tasty!
