They sent us an extra in case one chick died en route. NONE died. With 10 seconds of us putting them in their pen, they were scrambling for food and water and then they rested under the heat lamp. I had an extremely disappointing experience with Meyers Hatchery, and I feel it's important to share it so others can make an informed decision before ordering. I purchased 50 chicken hatching eggs, which was a significant investment. After carefully following proper incubation procedures, I discovered that 20 of the eggs were completely infertile. These weren't late quitters or losses during development--they were entirely clear, indicating there was never any viability to begin with. Losing that many eggs is not only frustrating but also a major financial loss. What made the situation even worse was the lack of customer support. I reached out to the company respectfully, simply asking if they would consider offering a refund or some kind of compensation for the infertile eggs. Unfortunately, my concerns were dismissed, and I was met with no understanding or willingness to help. There was absolutely no compassion shown for the situation. I understand that hatch rates can vary due to shipping and incubation variables, but a large number of completely infertile eggs points to an issue before shipment. At the very least, I expected better customer service and some accountability. Because of this experience, I will not be ordering from Meyers Hatchery again. I highly recommend to not do business with these people. We've spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars with chickens with this company. We became preferred customers and we were told if we ever had any issues again with a baby chicken dying that all we had to do was call and they would make it right. Things have changed apparently and being a preferred customer no longer means jack. I will 100% be referring everybody to competitors. The days are gone with the good reviews and the kind words. We had a baby chicken die after 2 days. We were told they would only refund the $5 for the chicken and not even do a partial refund for the shipping. This is the zenith of greed. This is no longer a family-run operation or at least it's not a family-run operation that has the thought and care for others in mind anymore. I was very hesitate to order from a large hatchery but have been blown away with Meyer. I had placed an order before Christmas that USPS horribly handled. I was so upset and distraught. When I called Meyers, they immediately placed another order for me, but more importantly, the customer service rep I spoke with was also audibly upset with USPS. We both cried for the little chicks and she submitted a complaint about their handling. Regarding Meyer Hatchery Blue Copper Marans... If you want the real deal, these truly are NOT! False Advertisement. I have ordered several these Blue Coppers from "Meyer Hatchery" and also their competitor "My Pet Chicken." in the past 3 years... and not a single one of their "Blue Coppers" hens have ever matured to have a copper neck/hackles and copper colored eyes, as is true to the breed description of Blue Coppers Nation Wide. The Blue Copper Marans is not a hybrid breed and should breed true for most part with minimal variability and with a large and established breeding program like these hatcheries boast about, not sure why this is not happening, but I've wasted money and time. Instead, I raised solid blue hens, with dark eyes, featherless legs, which are most likely Blue Birchen Marans. When I ordered this variety ten years ago from the same two hatcheries, the chicks matured to the true breed phenotype, Copper hackles and blue bodies and copper/yellow eyes and lightly feather legs and they were certainly eye catching and true to the breed. I'm not sure what has changed!... but if you are buying this breed, beware, these two hatcheries no longer sell TRUE bred Blue Coppers that actually look like tried and true Blue Coppers Marans hens. Instead they are most likely breeding Blue Birchen Marans which are always solid blue. Don't waste your time with these two hatcheries if you are seriously looking for well bred and the true phenotype of Blue Copper Marans. These two hatcheries do not carry the standard phenotype of Blue Coppers. read more

I really love this hatchery. I make a 7 hour round trip drive to pick up my chicks when I need to replenish my small flock. I have had wonderful luck of keeping the chicks alive by not having them shipped or purchasing from a local feed store. They have always been healthy (with the exception of 1 chick that didn't thrive and died within 3 days. I have purchased 40 chicks total over the last 5 years . All good producers and healthy. 3 weeks ago we ordered 5 eggs to surprise my autistic child with for Christmas. She lost her Green Queen hen last month and has been beyond devasted. The hens did not supply the eggs for the first shipping day. We waited a week. I let them know several times how important this was for us. The eggs shipped on the 10th and the tracking stopped on the 11th. By the 16th I was asking them what to do, we needed some eggs by Christmas, they said they couldn't do anyting until the end of the day on the 17th. Still no eggs on the 17th. They then tell me its too late to ship any now until Jan 7th!!!!!!!! They could have told me this on the 16th so I could order more to ship on the 17th and hope for Christmas. Meyer Hatchery says they guarantee the sex of their birds. They use the vent sexing method but this doesn't work, and is not appropriate, for bantam breeds such as silkies. They are much too tiny to vent sex and it is actually dangerous to do so. This is absolutely FALSE ADVERTISING! They allow returns for mis-sexed silkies, but you have to wait at least 19 weeks and you may or may not get your money back. Unsuspecting buyers have no idea that YOU CAN'T VENT SEX ANY BANTAM BREED. read more

I ordered 5 chocolate orpingtons from Meyer Hatchery. My hatch date was October 2nd, which didn't pan out, so I was moved to October 16, hatch date. These chicks arrived safely on the 18th. I live in Oklahoma, so quite a journey for these babies.They were so alert and active. Once they were moved to the brooder. they began eating and drinking, and they are thriving. They are definitely the healthiest birds I've received by mail. The entire process was simple. Customer service and communication were fantastic. I can't say enough good things about Meyer. Terrible experience. 1/10 will NOT order again. Ordered a total of 150 Cornish cross chicks. Within the first 2 weeks of the first batch arriving, they were all barely able to stand and started dying. We tried everything from corrid to medicated feed (Not something we have ever had to do when raising chicks). By the 3rd week all 50 chicks were dead. Second batch arrived, started them on corrid and medicated feed, even changed the room they were in just in case and within 2 weeks the same thing happened and they were all dying. This time, a week after the second batch arrived, we hatched out 10 turkeys, 12 black copper marans and bought 20 BCM chicks from Tractor Supply (Theirs were from Hoovers Hatchery). Those chicks are all thriving. Two days ago, we received the 3rd batch of 50, really hoping these don't end up dead like the other hundred and we can at least get some chickens the full 8 weeks but my hopes are not high. Meyers would NOT let us cancel the 3rd batch of chicks and will not take ANY responsibility for their obviously defective chicks. Save yourself the time, money and heartache and order from Hoover's Hatchery!!! read more

We bought a lot of chicks from here in the past, for starter they offer sexed chicks with a refund if not current... but time you figure out it's a rooster it's too late, doesnt fit in their return policy timeframe. okay, that's no biggie. We bough baby chicks and in the past it's been an okay experience as far as survival and sexed chicks. but my last batch was awful, and they did nothing to make it right even thought it was still during their "return policy timeframe". the evening after picking up the chicks My son and I went to feed them one last time before bed. We walked into a horrible surprise. every single chick was dead. In the morning I called them. They lady was rude about the situation right from the beginning she was blameful that I did it. I told her, these chicks get shipped in a box for 24hr normally , mine were picked up in person. my set up was fine, I've used the same set up for many of my past chicks. this definitely wasn't my first rodeo. She requested I send a photo, so I did. They went on to say my set up wasn't good enough...the area was too small. but a 12inch box they ship them off in isn't too small? Excuses, excuse. those chicks were never going to survive anyhow. Just keep in mind, return policy is BS. and sometimes you will get sick chicks but don't expect this business to be honest or even have any remorse for your loss. read more

I've ordered 8chicks about two months prior to the hatching date Sept. It was a perfect order list of rare chicken breeds. they were supposed to be shipped between Sept 22-24. We've prepared everything for the chick delivery and whole family was so excited. The hatching day came and no email. I reached out to them next day. They said there have been a shipping labeling error?? So no chicks. They have offered a full refund. But now what? They only had one breed left to sell for the next week. All the other places sold out their chicks now and most of them don't offer chicks since it's fall. Also 8 chicks don't meet their minimum quantity of chicks. It was a huge disappointment. read more

First off I must say I have bought Egg layers and Broilers from Meyer Hatchery many times and have always been pleased with my orders and customer service. This occassion was a bit different. My Broiler batch didn't hatch on the specified date and I was told the next avail would be 5 months out (didn't know this could happen). I settled for a mixed batch 8 broiler and 8 Fryer. All arrived alive. I lost one on day two ( looked to be smashed by another chick as it was extremely small in comparison. Several days later I lost another very tiny chick. and a couple weeks later I lost another very tiny chick. It was almost like they were not growing. I have no idea which breed they were but they were like a mini version of the other chicks. The remainder 5 fryers are still doing well and growing. I am not sure I will try the fryer pan bargain again. Even if those 3 would have lived I am not sure they would have grown enough to process with the rest of the Fryers, and would they have even had enough meat on them. What a crap business. They have no regard for their customers or producers. We have a ranch and raise cattle, pigs, chickens, and produce. Wanted to get into raising turkeys to produce for the holiday season. Did the research and planning. Weeks ago, I ordered and pre-paid for 8 broad breasted Turkeys to be delivered the week of July 10th. They would be perfect harvesting size and age for Thanksgiving. Awaiting my shipment confirmation email, I get an email claiming my order was unable to be processed. Wait what? IF they had said only 4 or 6 of them hatched I may have believed them, but 0 turkeys out of 8? Not possible. After I pre-paid for my order this crap business resold and shipped my turkeys to someone else. Leaving me completely screwed. Not enough time to make another order, so after spending $2k + building a turkey shed, buying bulk feed, and paying a deposit to hold my processing spot, I am 100% screwed by their incompetence. Their answer is to send me Turkeys on July 31st, because selling inferior, premature, undersized turkeys to my customers is supposed to negate the fact that these thieves stole my money and gave my poults to someone else. I highly doubt this horrible company will do anything to make this right. I'm sure we can look for a list of excuses and lies below in a response. Essentially all my money bought was the experience of getting f*cked over and excuses. And their customer service team doesn't even care that they have completely destroyed my investment. I'm a first generation rancher, so a hot like this is crippling, all due this business' negligence. This is my first experience with this sad excuse of a company, and it will be my last. Their entire business model is built around screwing their customers over, and treating you like you are less than. They will intentionally send the wrong breed chicks. Chickens are separated into breeds and there is no way to get the wrong breed unless someone went into the habitat of another breed and pulled out the chick, plain and simple. So order somewhere else if you are serious about the breed. read more

I've used Meyer a few times. i get a few roosters with my hen order but this is normal for sexing accuracy rates. I live in Rhode Island and find my chicks arrive 3 days post hatch date, usually in fare condition. i do find some breeds don't ship well (top hats) and aren't worth the loss due to fragile breeds. I usually loose a few and they have great service in my experience. They are available on chat, email and phone. Unfortunately my recent order of 50 chicks was canceled and rescheduled for reorder in 4 months. This order was an assortment and okay to ship short if inventory changes. This is within their policy (and same for most hatcheries). I called and was told they must have been in short supply and was given a refund. bummer! overall would buy again read more

Completely unprofessional, rude and disgusting! Meagan was a nasty human being to my family. We had ordered from the Hatchery but found on that they had blocked my sons social media accounts. My son's a 5yr old battling cancer they played stupid saying they don't know how it happened. I call bullshit. We demanded a REFUND which we got but the emails back and forth with that we're so unprofessional. They lacked compassion, upstanding, and respect. My son was extremely upset by all of this. They didn't even try to make any effort to make it up to him after they asked what they could do. They just want to sweep it under the room. I just can't believe how disgusting and mean they were. I found the customer service to be excellent, as I made adjustments/additions to my original order a couple of times as breeds I wanted became available for the hatch date. However, I was extremely nervous after reading reviews about chicks from various hatcheries, including Meyer, arriving DOA or not doing well after USPS delivery. My 9 beautiful Bantams arrived Aug 18th (Ohio to Illinois) in excellent health. We did notify our local post office, per the advice of Meyer, about the arrival of live poultry on the hatch date. The post office called us immediately once the chicks arrived. From Meyer to our post office/USPS, everything went smoothly. I am looking to future orders with Meyer and USPS. read more

We have 3 (maybe 4) roosters, but most of them are acting very friendly towards me. I'm still very happy with the bantams they shipped me. They have clearly been bred for good temperaments; the roosters (besides Checkers, who is nice enough anyway) are acting more like hens, which I appreciate. We didn't end up getting any roosters for any breeds we only ordered one of, which is pretty awesome. They are also getting along very nicely with our older, larger chickens, and the broody hen is even protecting them from the bully chickens. Thank you, Meyer Hatchery!
