This place takes me immediately to Lancaster, Pennsylvania. It's decoration with the buggy inside of the icecream store makes it picturesque. They usually have the the flavor of the season. My favorite is chocolate. This time, however, I ordered a three scoops of cookie dough and it was delicious. I wish they would have waffle cones too. Regardless, the Icecream is one of the best ones in town. read more

Meyer Dairy Store - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - State College, Pennsylvania

Had not been to Meyer Dairy in 3-4 years. Since then the quality of the milkshakes has changed & not in a good way. The mocha chip milkshakes were more milk than ice cream & it didn't taste like mocha chip at all. Very disappointing! It was an expensive glass of milk. read more

Best ice cream I've ever tasted!!!! They were out of milk so I didn't have a chance to taste the milkshake but I'm sure it's just as good! Place has been around for years! A must!! read more

Milk. From local cows. Served in glass bottles. Exquisite. The chocolate milk is highly recommended.

Go here weekly for fresh milk, OJ, and other items all in glass!!! . Very friendly and it is nice you that they take credit card now. If you get more than two glass jars it is worth buying a carrying case abs pouring lid (you can buy behind the counter). Ice cream is good too. read more

First time here and have been coming to state college since I attended and graduated in 1993. Can't believe it took this long. The ice cream was delicious and I wished I live closer, I would buy the milk in the old fashioned bottles. Pretty cool. Can't wait to return. read more

Definitely some of the best ice cream I have ever had! Also fresh eggs and milk at a reasonable price!! Amazing place, great outdoor seating area, just an overall gem of a place. I love it, and can't wait for it to get warmer, so I have more excuses to go! read more

Loss of a star for no cards. Best ice cream in town! Grape nut and mint chip are my favorites, but honestly all of them are so fresh and delicious! They have great options you don't see everywhere like Teaberry and Black Raspberry.Cones, dishes, to go...a big outdoor seating area but only a few, very old picnic tables. Their milk is something my family loves, be sure to try their milk! read more

Delicious my new found place to come back to. And I have to complement the hard working, under staffed, unusually good willed young people stayed half an hour after hours still serving! Thank you! Please put another sign where I have to get in line I can't see and don't want to hold things up! read more

Not my best experience for a treat. Mild flavors, grainy ice cream texutres--not going back. Chocolate was bland, and the berry flavor tasted like Pepto Bismal--i am not kidding...ick. I will stay with pints and PSU and Stone Cold....sorry Meyer. But I loved the picnic tables outside, chatting and socializing during stupid COVID--that was great. read more

I love Meyers. I love the historic feel it has, and how it's a very down-to-earth place to get your ice cream fix (and to get fresh milk and eggs, too!) I think it's lovely that it's clear that this is a dairy store - everything is from the farm, and they offer fresh milk, cheese, butter, lemonade, etc... it feels like a homemade place. Their ice cream flavors are plentiful, and they're super generous with the servings. I only got a small, but was UNABLE to finish even though I had been super craving ice cream. The small is like three giant scoops. And it was so good!! There's only two downsides to this place. The first is that it's cash only... there's an ATM available, but gosh, it's still such a pain. It's forgivable since it's an old-fashioned place, but it's still something that annoys me a bit (and sometimes limits what I can get!) The second is that it is a little far. When my husband and I first moved to the area and came here, I told him that I was probably going to come every week to get milk and eggs here, since it's cheaper and it's local. But... after a few weeks of trying to do this, it's hard to justify a 30-45 minute roundtrip for just milk and eggs (and dangit, as good as the ice cream is, I'm not trying to eat it every single week when I'm just trying to do a grocery run!!) I highly recommend coming to check it out if you're in the area - it's a lovely place with some great ice cream. read more

Great little spot to check out on the outskirts of State College/Boalsburg. You might feel like you've stepped through a worm hole as this place looks like it is stuck in the past--- in the BEST way. Tiny little ice cream/dairy shop that is quite famous all around Centre County. Besides their ice cream, milk and cheese products, they also sell local favorites such as Herlocher's mustard, the Diner's stickybuns and various jams. My only complaint is that their chocolate ice cream is not super chocolately. It's still very good, but very light in color and not as strong as I prefer. read more

Treated my SC Mom to a Banana split date while in town for the Whiteout. Full disclosure: MD was our family's Dairy during our childhood so it is 5 stars based on a nostalgia factor. I had not been in over 30 years and it is still the same unassuming, no frills, family operation, with bottled milk and steel carriers! Back to our date-We ordered 4 mexi hots topped with cheese, banana split, fudge sundae with chocolate and peanut butter ice cream and sauces. Every bite was as I remembered, dairy heaven! Unbelievable value too, less than 20 bonz for the aforementioned. Thanks MD for the walk down memory lane. read more

Whoa--Meyer's Dairy sells whoopie pies? So...the greatest ice cream shop on earth also carries my all-time favorite bakery item. That's like heaven installing a free scotch fountain. Some things are just too awesome to comprehend. read more

Meyer's is a perfectly awesome family-run dairy where you can get farm fresh milk and cheese and butter as well as a selection of other basic groceries. The milk is sold in returnable bottles, so this could be an ideal way to do your part for the environment while also improving the quality of some basic staples on your shopping list. If we could stop here, this review would be four stars. However... Meyer's also happens to sell some basic sandwiches and fried stuff, which is more like "feed" than food... Fairly typical of what you would expect from a frosty serv kitchen. Subtract one star. The homemade ice cream they serve is definitely a step up from soft serve, but is lacking in both the flavor and ingredients department. All of their add-ins are finely crumbled (no chunks) and the flavors are anything but rich. It's not bad, but it's not good either. So I can't exactly add stars here. The Butter Crunch lacked both buttery goodness and sugary crunch. The Coconut Chip was devoid of colada creaminess and the chocolatey flakes lacked the cocoa punch of a true chip. If there are good flavors here, there are some true misses as well. So while the lines are definitely shorter at Meyer's (and the $1.65 single is a true deal), it would seem to me that the Creamery serves the superior scoop. read more

Forget the Berkey Creamery, if you live in or around State College, please do yourself a favor and visit Meyer Dairy. As a PSU alum, I found this place by accident as I drove around the area. It looks super cute and inviting so I tried it. The place looks really old fashioned and feels so nostalgic. They make their own ice cream, cheese, and other dairy products, and everything is so delicious. I always went for ice cream and would occasionally buy cheese as well, and I've never had a bad experience. This ice cream will ruin all other ice cream for you. It's that good. It's particularly fun to visit Meyer Dairy in the late spring/early summer when you can order some ice cream and sit outside at a picnic table. It'll make you feel like a kid again! I adore this place. My favorite flavor is the chocolate marshmallow :) read more

This is the BEST icecream I have ever had. Ever. I mean -- ever, ever. In life. Period! And I'm not exaggerating! I mean, this icecream was so good that I risked my girlish figure and a bout with eczema to eat my entire (and very generous!) scoop of cookies-n-creme! It was the freshest, creamiest, most delicious bite on a spoon I've ever had. I'm not sure how often I will get back to State College, but trust and believe that when I do, I will be making a stop to Meyer Dairy Store. And it doesn't matter if there's two feet of snow on the ground -- I will still take one for the team and go for another heaping scoop of this icecream which warms your soul and melts in your mouth! read more

Meyer's Dairy is, more or less, the locals ice cream shop. Berkey Creamery is the pop star choice. There truly is a reason for that. But, honestly, the ice cream is pretty close. At the Creamery, you will wait in line for upwards of 40 minutes on a busy day. Sometimes longer. All the while you are sweating out how much your parking is going to cost or worried about the 15 minute parking spot your vehicle occupies. At Meyers, private lot. Stay as long as you like. No pay for parking. Relaxed atmosphere. You may have to wait for 20 minutes on a busy day. The Creamery gives you a nostalgic Penn State student/alumni/fan experience. Not really glitsy but part of the cultural necessities of Penn State. You must go there. For this reason, Meyer's is a good option after an event or shopping trip for many locals and nearly locals. It is convenient to those that live south of SC and a favorite of many as an "on the way home" stop. With the Creamery, you have to park in a garage or far away. Then you have to walk to it. You usually have to pay something to get there. The ice cream choices at Berkey are often exotic and experimental. They are fun. The ice cream at Meyer's is usual a typical array of standard stuff. Occasionally they will throw something new in there. The taste of both places is pretty even. I may give an edge to The Creamery but locals will debate this for hours. There are picnic tables outside for the Spring and Summer. There is a small cafeteria set up and restaraunt inside. Meyer's does serve burgers and other grill food. Most of which are farm fresh. Prices are reasonable. Service is adequate. Good enough. But do you really come here for burgers or service? I don't know many that do. It's all about ice cream. So bottom line, Meyer's has its perks. It's one of those local gems you will hear about from locals but not really know about otherwise. It is slightly outside town right on the edge of State College and Boalsburg. If you have a little time on your visit to State College, try Meyer's. I can't imagine anyone not enjoying their ice cream. read more

This is by far my favorite ice cream place in town! I don't understand everyone's obsession with the Creamery. The ice cream is better here, and instead of being able to order only basic scoops, you can get some great sundaes! Their prices are very reasonable. They do have some basic grill food, hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, which is hit and miss, but generally I just come for the ice cream anyways! read more

I've got a soft spot for cows and a softer spot for fresh milk, cheese, and ice cream. In my few days at State College, I went on a quick dairy tour to taste the local goods. I love small farmers and what they do for local communities. Meyer Dairy is a wonderful place - where else can you see the cows grazing right behind the store? Talk about farm to table. The staff is helpful and friendly, and the decor is pretty kitschy country. Meyer Dairy sells its milk in reusable bottles. You pick up glass bottles of fresh milk that you return time and time again! It helps keeps costs down and the milk cheap, and also promotes sustainable living. I wish I had a place near me where I could both pick up my milk and wave hello to the cows. The cheese is very tasty and creamy; I wish I got to taste a few more. But I have to agree with other Yelpers that the ice cream is pretty average. They have a great variety of flavors, but the ice cream itself was not very creamy and the flavors did not pop. I was disappointed in that, as well as the rest of the menu, but I just love the dairy itself. Just stick to milk, it does a body good! And boy is it good! read more

The girl at the counter was not friendly. After she said, "Can I help you?" we knew she couldn't be bothered. We left. Her coworkers knew that she was being rude and laughed when we walked out. Hopefully she will be more aware of her poor customer service. read more

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent..... This place has the BEST ICE CREAM EVER!!!!!! I am from NYC, and every time I come to SC to see family a stop at Meyer Dairy is a MUST. There is no place in the city that compares too Meyer's. If you want pure, fresh, natural ice cream this is the place. I have been coming here for over 28 yrs, and have never been disappointed read more

Probably the best ice cream I've ever had! And I love the way this place feels. It has a small town dairy store feel. LOVES IT! And people come here with empty milk jugs in carriers to get their milk! I was really amused with that (then again...I get amused easily). If you get the chance you should try their chocolate milk & the chocolate chip brownie dough ice cream. yummy yummy yummy. read more

I used to come here a lot back when I went to State High.. it was so good here back then. To relive my memories, I came back here from NY after about 4 years.. but starting from the line to the cashier at the register... why are people so rude? It started with the guy standing in front of us... shaking his head in disapproval and looking at us with disgust... ummm... racism? or just hatred? We weren't doing anything.. just standing in line like everyone else. I mean I understand you don't see a lot of asians in this town as much as NY, but still.. C'mon!!! Seriously? Then, we get to the counter... and the girl at the register started acting super rude. You can tell she is miserable there and really hate being there. I have never seen someone more rude in my life. If she hates working there that much, then maybe she shouldn't! I really have fond memories of this place, but not anymore. I'm very disappointed from the customer service they have there. You don't have to be super nice.. just be polite at least. I felt like this girl was gonna explode at any moment... and made me feel very uncomfortable. I don't care how good your ice cream is (which I've had better).. I don't need to feel anxious when getting one!! read more

Every bit as good as the Creamery, without the lines. If you go for ice cream and frozen yogurt, the only downside is that they do not have dry ice for transporting. Also has a small (25-30 seat) restaurant that serves breakfast and sandwiches. I try to at least stop for a cone every time in town. You should as well. read more

Meyer dairy has a great variety of dairy products including awesome milk, cheeses and ice cream. Definitely would recommend their take on the shamrock shake and have yet to be disappointed by anything I've bought there! read more

Maybe a nice lunch spot, but in no way is this ice cream better than the creamery. It melted so fast that within minutes I was left with just ice cream soup, and ridiculously sweet soup at that. What ice cream I did have was icy and textured like Hersheys or any other bucket brand. I'm guessing all the 5 stars just want to feel special for knowing the "niche" ice cream place. The wet walnuts were delicious though. This is not a review of their milk, which is definitely spectacular and 5 star worthy. Also, this place is almost completely inaccessible by walking!! What gives? read more

For the people claiming that this is the best ice cream they've ever eaten, I can only assume that you grew up in some kind of box where you were force-fed Dairy Queen all day long. I understand digging the mom-and-pop or local farm atmosphere of this place (and I do as well) but let's not make this place more than what it is. Lackluster food and ice-cream, and good (and cheap) milk. The ice cream is consistently mediocre (the chocolate tastes like vanilla with cheap chocolate syrup, for instance). And the food probably deserves 2 stars. I had a borderline disgusting chicken platter here, and while the portions are small (to be fair, it's really cheap as well), I couldn't bring myself to finish it. What I do like about this place, a lot, is that you can get a glass bottle of milk for under $2, providing you're returning a bottle. This place probably deserves 4 stars for the yummy milk, but the food and ice cream bring it down to 3 stars. In conclusion, nice atmosphere, good milk, lackluster ice cream and food, and a change from the creamery (whose ice cream is WAYYYYYY better). read more

Get ready for the epitome of the central pennsylvania experience. This is a cute little store/farm right off the main road that could easily be overlooked by a passerby. I heard about how Meyers has fresh ice cream and milk and figured I needed to stop by! Around since 1889, Meyers will take you back in time. 2 scoops of ice cream for $1.97... unheard of in today's society. I tried the chocolate peanut butter. Not extremely chocolaty or peanut buttery, but intensly creamy. It wasn't your average ice cream. Also they sell milk in glass jugs... like the 1950s, as a sense to take you back in time. They also have a small lunch menu if you are hungry while stopping in, but remember they dont accept cards, so have some cash on you! Very happy to support local business - meyers is worth a stop. read more

Great local place, a state college institution. You should go just to experience a real local dairy, not many of these left. The chocolate milk is as good as any I have had. The ice cream and sundaes are all good, with some of the classic hard to find flavors like tea berry. The staff is almost exclusively local high school aged kids so your service will vary depending on who is around that day. What is nice is that they are not gauging you, the price for milk and eggs are cheaper than the grocery stores. The ice cream is also a bargain compared to most other places. read more

The best ice cream! And the chocolate milk is amazing as well. We try new flavors every time we go! It's worth the wait in line!

This review is purely about the Ice Cream. I haven't sampled anything else from Meyer Dairy so I can't comment. The draw of this place is obviously that they make their own ice cream using their own fresh milk. That doesn't necessarily mean they make good ice cream, just that's it's fresh. I found the taste to be a bit lacking and the flavors muted. The servings are gigantic and for under $3 I got two massive scoops in a cone which is a great deal. I tried the butter crunch and there wasn't a distinctive taste or anything crunch, perhaps I just got a bad sample. On the actual cone I got the chocolate peanut butter which didn't particularly taste like either and I also get the peanut butter oreo flavor which I really liked. The peanut butter was very soft and creamy however the oreo was harder and somewhat icy. Overall I liked what I got and would go back, but it's not the best ice cream I've had. read more

Meyer Dairy Store has that old dairy store feel, and is a great place to stop with the family for a treat. They still use the old glass milk jugs that can be brought back in for a deposit. The ice cream has that fresh homemade taste, and there are many flavors to choose from. You can enjoy your cone inside in the dining area or you can take it outside, and eat it at the many picnic tables that overlook the Meyer family farm. This is a really great place to support. I hope they are around for another 50 plus years, and continue to keep the old charm that keeps everyone coming back. Also- Cash or Check only. read more
