I can't find the pictures of our food from the last time we came however I come here with my boyfriend as often as we can we was just here last night. This has become one of our favorite spots to eat. The food is really good. They have really fast service. Everyone's really nice and the restaurant is always clean, including the bathrooms. I have tried the tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, and fajitas. Everything is delicious. I have no complaints on this restaurant. Definitely a spot to come check out. When I first moved to richmond nearly 20 years ago, Mexico was one of the restaurants we went to on a regular basis. The food was consistent but it wasn't a place I would go out of my way to go to. Recently, it popped back on my radar so after a workout at the Y, my husband and I decided to pass 3 Mexican restaurants to give it a try. I'm glad we did! Shrimp fajitas for me (I had requested double beans instead of rice, but still got the rice) and a shrimp dish for my husband. They brought chips and salsa...both good and we enjoyed a margarita. It was all pretty good...I'd definitely eat here again. The one thing they fall prey to is having a menu with a million items. I wish they'd skinny the menu down so I didn't feel the pressure to pick the same things because I get exhausted trying to look at a huge menu. But alas a lot of Mexican restaurants do the same thing. Next time I'll look at the menu online so I can actually read it all and make an informed vs a rushed decision. read more

Nice and spacious restaurant. Two big TVs playing sports of course. The service was fast. Everything we got came out pretty fast. The queso was runny and got cold really fast. The arroz con pollo and arroz con cameroon was also mediocre. You could hardly see the cheese that was supposed to be in the rice. They gave plenty of lettuce though. This place was not my first choice but it was closest to where I was at the time. I would not eat here again honestly. The pricing was average for a Mexican spot. read more

We've always had a good experience at the one in Ashland. But sadly this one wasn't as up to par as the one in Ashland. We ordered the crab dip, although tasty. The cheese was a little more thinned instead of thicker like a dip. The burrito came our very well. The enchiladas I had to send back because the chicken was cold in the inside, and it almost tastes as if these are premade then heated up. I am in disbelief in the experience I just had for dinner at the Mexico Restaurant in short pump. I used to come here all of the time growing up but I will never come back here after this evening. We ordered the chorizo queso and the chorizo was raw. I know pork can do a little pink but this was questionable. My boyfriend ordered the beef nachos which came out very very pink as well with a few completely raw bits. We were assured "this is how it is cooked". I typically like my steak pretty close to rare but this ground beef looked too suspicious to eat. After pulling a total Karen move which I haven't done in years we sent both of those dishes back. We got a replacement choriqueso, this time completely burnt as if to give us the middle finger. My boyfriend opted to just stick with the taco he ordered and when we got the bill the nachos were still on there. We didn't put two and two together until after we paid but for someone not eating their meal you would think it would be taken off. Our server was nice enough and everyone was friendly but I would stay far away from this place. So sad to see it's gone so downhill. read more

The food came out really fast . Me and my husband ordered street tacos. I ordered two steak and a pork because it comes in three's. My husband ordered all three which was chicken , pork and beef . Both our meals came with a side of beans and rice . My oldest ordered burrito that was covered in a cheese sauce and it came with rice , he devoured it! My youngest son ordered the #1 which was a burrito covered in red sauce did a taco on the side ! He loved everything .plus tacos has always been his favorite! My husband said his food was good , he finished his plate , I say mines was okay , my meat was really tough like it was old or burnt ends . My husband and I brought our daughter here for lunch on a late afternoon Saturday. My picky daughter actually loved it. We had the jalapeno margaritas, burritos, enchiladas, and quesadillas. Food quality was just not there. I ordered birria tacos and found that the meat quality, as well as the overall quality of the dish, was just not there. I understand this dish is also a little messy, so give me more than half a napkin! I also ordered a margarita along with it that was 90% ice and had hardly any alcohol in it. $10 for that btw. I had initially discovered this location back in 2019 and remember it being very good back then, so it's a shame that it's fallen so much. Don't recommend going here at all as it's become way too expensive, and the food quality has only declined. read more

This place has the worst service and food. I ordered 4 Beef Tacos, they brought back uncooked beef, after telling them about it, they got attitudes and said "the red seasoning is what makes the beef pink" after explaining that I know what beef looks like cooked they tried to say that they order different meat from different vendors, they then said they would cook it more and still did not cook the beef fully. They weren't willing to fix the problem. They then tried to charge me for all 4 tacos after I told them I wasn't eating uncooked beef, I asked for the owner and he also had an attitude, He took off the 4 tacos from my bill. Im 2 months pregnant and was really craving Mexican food. I was very disappointed of the items that didn't come with my meal like the description said. Then to top it off, I asked for 2 drinks and the guy didn't even put them in a bag for me, basically just threw the drinks and said good bye. Poor customer service. The chicken enchiladas were absolutely Terrible! No flavor, just shredded chicken that had not been cooked in sauce as the menu said and the cheese was sprinkled on top and what was there was totally tasteless. There was just a tiny bit if some kind if sauce but there wasn't enough on them that I could tell if it was good tasting or not. read more

Of the Mexican restaurants on or right off the main stretch of broad at Short Pump, this is our go-to for a consistent dining experience. Is it perfect or like the best? Nah. Is is standard Mexican food that will leave you full, satisfied, and not break the bank? Yes. It's also a clean and bright establishment inside. They have good tableside guacamole, salsa, and white sauce. After living in another state where they thought whites sauce meant queso, you learn to appreciate a good white sauce. They have an email club too so if you sign up, occasionally you may get a coupon. They have a few other locations too, but this is the one I frequent most and would recommend to anyone looking for Mexican fare at Short Pump. read more

Thank you to Mexico Restaurant for providing free meals to those affected by the government shut down. I joined my husband's work team met here for lunch one day last week and was pleasantly surprised. They had a special paper printed out with the free menu on it. I chose to get a quesadilla which came with lettuce, tomato, and a small thing of sour cream. I asked for more sour cream and she brought it to me, but later we realized that there was a $1 upcharge! What on earth? I can get a whole vat of sour cream from the grocery store for $1. Besides that, I enjoyed my quesadilla. The rice could have been a little better, but I wasn't really expecting a lot. I've eaten here several times as a business traveler to Richmond. The restaurant is just below average Good service-quick Ordered a dish that had chicken, shrimp, veggies and topped with cheese. This entree was unique but good. Came with a side of Mexican potatoes which I did not like. The only two negatives are the chips. Normally good, but today they were fried in old or cheap oil as they had a burned taste and smell-not good in my opinion when you are a Mexican Restaurant Ordered a small guacamole-it was minimal avocados, combined with imitation sour cream. So, this restaurant is cutting corners. My opinion is if the restaurant continues to cut corners verses offering quality products ( you have to adjust your menu to accommodate quality), they will go out of business in the long run. Develop your value proposition buy offering consistent quality at a reasonable price and people will come. read more

I have passed this Mexico Restaurant many times, however it was all the Yelp Reviews which I read that gave me the thoughts on trying Mexico Restaurant, and I am glad I did. I now can understand as to why they have 4 to 5 Stars for their Food and Service. Living in S. California and New Mexico for 20 years, I LOVE good Mexican food, however it seems like I only find it in the "Mom & Pop" type of Restaurants. Richmond has many small Mexican Restaurants, so I was hesitant to come here as I thought I was going to get the usual Bland Mexican Food. To say the least, I was surprise. My Server was great and very accommodating. I asked for Extra Hot Salsa and he brought it out at my request. It had great flavor and Heat, just the way I like it. The next time, I will ask for extra Cilantro, as it could have used a tad more... I decided on the California Burrito, however I could not decide on the Chicken or Beef... My server said I could order both and I did. When the Burrito came out, it was huge, with lots of melted Cheese on top... I was thinking to myself... can I eat all of this? However, once I took my first bite.... I was WOW! The flavor of the Beef and Chicken with the Cheese, Tomatoes and grilled Onions was excellent. I had NO problems in eating it all. Matter of fact, I was scrapping the plate with my fork which I rarely do even in a Mom & Pop Restaurant. So, I am giving it 5 Stars as this is not a typical Chain Restaurant with Bland Mexican Flavors. I will go back and I am anxious to try other dishes as I know they have to be great as well.... So we visited this place Friday and the food was pretty good I don't recommend getting the chimichangas as the chicken does not taste good. Other than that, I might go back not really for sure. The price was OK for two people the service was excellent but definitely don't get the chimichangas and I am not gonna tell you what it tasted like. We had not gone to this Mexican Restaurant for quite a while b/c there are so many Mexican Restaurants in the area. However! ... we decided to give it another try, since it has a PATIO to dine on. We've been back 3 times since re-trying Mexico Restaurant across from Short Pump Town Center and it has NEVER disappointed! We have sat on the patio each time b/c the weather has been nice a lot this Spring & Summer. The ambiance on the patio is nice b/c there is a lot of activity around - it's a bustling area. But it's kind of peaceful and quiet at the same time, if that makes any sense. The tables have colorful umbrellas & there are string lights on the patio. The salsa is great, that they bring you with the chips. The waiters are friendly. The beef for the tacos is scrumptious (and I am picky about taco beef). The chicken for the tacos is well-seasoned and moist (can be dry at other places). The spanish rice is good. The refried beans are good and I love that there is plenty of that nice melted white cheese on top of the refried beans. Nice selection of beers, too. read more

Alright, I tried this place again and they redeemed themselves from my previous 1 star experience years ago. We started with the queso dip and it's probably the most flavorful queso I've had! The salsa was also deliciously spicy! I couldnt get enough but I didnt want to fill up on chips although I definitely would have been content doing so. I ordered the lunch combo #3 a beef burrito, beef taco and spanish rice. I totally forgot about having the option of hard or soft shell for the taco so I really wish the server would have asked me because I was super bummed when a hard taco showed up on my plate. Their beef is perfect! The flavor, the salt level, the texture. All exactly what I was looking for. It must have not been my destiny to eat that hard taco because by the time I finished the burrito and went in for a bite, it completely fell apart in my hand. I guess the juices from the meat sogged up the shell to the point of no return so I just used my chips to eat the innards. The spanish rice could have stood to have a little more flavor but it was still good! read more

The food was delicious and the service attentive. I had the California Pasta which was very good and my wife had the steak fajitas; also very yummy. The portions were big and filling. Also, the food came out sizzling hot. There's nothing worse than getting food that is lukewarm, not the case here. My wife and I love a good Sangria, but you won't find that here. I placed an order through Door Dash and both items were wrong. I called the restaurant to inquire as to how the order could be corrected. Their response was that I was basically "out of luck". Tremendous customer service and why wasn't the order checked by someone before it left the kitchen? I love Mexican food, but this food was pathetic. As a vegetarian, Mexican restaurants are the most accommodating in options after Indian food. This place just gave a ton of cheese dumped on top of tortillas stuffed with completely unseasoned boiled mashed potatoes. It was heart attack on a platter. The one star I've given is for the chips and salsa. None of the entrees were served with a side of guacamole. Even the Veggie Quesadilla was all soggy because the filled it with tomatoes, which released water and didn't have a bite nor any taste. This was my first and last visit. Never coming back.
