I'm usually pretty generous with my star rating - see my other reviews - despite what Yelp's guidance is for ratings. The only thing that deterred from the 5th star was the wait time. We were seated promptly, and Charoltte was a lovely server. We order spring rolls and our mains when our waters arrived. The spring rolls were fresh out of the fryer, and were DELICIOUS with the accompanied dipping sauce. But, it took another 35 minutes for our mains to arrive. It shouldn't take that long for a quesadilla and a steak burrito to prep. But apparently, they had a number of large groups, and were short staffed in the kitchen. All was forgotten in the first few bites. My burrito had a little more heat that what I'm used to, but it made it all that much more enjoyable. The quesadilla was chessy and delicious, and more filling than my wife expected. Usually I eat her leftovers, but I was as FULL. If you're willing to wait, it's worth it. read more

Excellent service and great food located right next to the Tay River. We ordered the fish tacos and chicken quesadilla. The taco gave our regular place in So Cal a run for its money. The quesadilla was pretty good as well. We ate outside but indoors is very cute. read more

We have been there 3 times and each the service was good, food was flavourful, with a fun Mexican ambiance.

The three stars are for the ambiance, location and server (meaning that's the only part of the experience that earned any stars). Cute location, cute decor and patio on the river. Friendly server. The lack of any more stars is for the food. Please don't call yourself anything close to being Mexican food if you're going to serve tortilla chips out of a bag and salsa out of a jar. Seriously. I mean, no place that calls itself a restaurant should be doing that. We had 3 different tacos. Sadly not anything we're glad we ordered. Getting the chips and salsa told us what to expect for the rest of our order...and we were right. This was a 2 star experience but I added the third for the cool location and decor. read more

It was a gorgeous day and the Mex & Co patio along the water looked so inviting our group of just had to go. We were not disappointed. It did take awhile to get outside seating - 20 min over the estimated time when we booked a table. It was worth it. Three of us shared a pitcher of Perth Brewery Easy Amber - very good. Our orders arrived quickly and hot. My dining partner and her friend had chicken enchiladas and were very pleased with their plates. I liked my chicken quesadillas but felt it should have included mexican rice like the other plates. Our friend had pulled pork enchiladas and said all was good. Albeit based on a very small sample size, my experience was a good one. I don't know a lot about Perth and even less about Mex and Co, but I did observe a few things about the joint in my brief time there: 1. Staff seemed friendly. Always a plus. The waiter gave a thumbs up to the fish tacos. I agreed, they're good! 2. Patio beats all patios in town. I haven't tried all or even most of them, but I'd bet money there's not too many patios next to the water like this one. 3. Has beers other places won't It's a cool joint. The nachos were also good. I was in town for work, and was complaining to a colleague that there was nothing to eat after 6 pm! My colleague suggested I try this place, and I'm glad he told me that I'd have to go downstairs off her street, because otherwise I would have given up and driven back to my hotel. So yes, location is just down the stairs off the street. I'd imagine there would be a beautiful view of the canal in nicer weather, but unfortunately, I found myself here in late January. I was seated right away and was surprised by how busy the place was for a Tuesday night. By the time I left, the place was more than half full. I really liked the atmosphere, the wait staff was very nice and attentive. What I didn't love, however, was the food. It was okay but I found it to be rather bland, especially considering that it's a Mexican restaurant. Granted, I'm of a South Indian background and I'm from Toronto, where we're used to a lot more spice! But is Mexican food really Mexican food without the spice? I also had a lime daquiri, the waitress warmed me that it'd be very tart (and it was), but I love tart! It tasted so good, that I drank it way too fast and have myself brain freeze. Simple life rules apply here, drink frozen beverages slowly. Summary: food - 2, atmosphere - 4. Food quality is always weighted more heavily in my mind so it'd really be a 2.5. read more

Warning!!! Do not eat here. Very very bad food. Chicken in the chicken fajitas is not fresh, they use frozen chicken. Fish taco was okay but smelly. Steak in the fajitas was very tough. Went on a mini-vacation that included a Friday night. Went to a Mexi - joint on the river in a tourist town, on a Friday night. I had one beer. My Wife had one fruity drink of some sort. Was not offered a margarita. Does this give you an idea of where this review is going? Absolutely awesome location, as other Yelpers have said. They have a winner, location-wise. Everything else, not so much. It is a tiny 2 room place and we waited close to 5 minutes by the sign that says "please wait to be seated", before we were greeted. The decor is typically wannabe Mexican, mixed with awesome historic stone walls, which is great, but the dollar store Easter decorations sorta kill the look. I would say kill the party, but there was no party going on in this place. Our server was polite, but lacking any sort of personality or warmth. There was no attempt to sell any sort of fun, let alone any special house drinks. Food arrived frighteningly fast, as in maybe 3 minutes after our orders were placed. While this may impress some people, it screams short cuts. It was clear from the short time and the screaming hot plates that my burrito had been plated, cheesed and the entire thing put under the broiler to melt the cheese. When retrieved from the broiler, the grungy kitchen tongs left a black shit stain on the plate, which neither kitchen staff nor server thought to remove. The food itself could best be called lazy ass white boy Mexican. One step below Old El Paso. Once we finished the meal, our server kindly asked if we wanted anything else. Not, could I get you another pint? Or, could I interest you in some of our awesome Mexi-dessert". Yes, I want something else. I want to leave and get some creamy DQ goodness, before your lazy Mexi joint sucks any more of my soul. read more

I'll start with the positives. This restaurant is in downtown Perth along the river so it's a very nice atmosphere if you're sitting on the patio. The complimentary tortilla chips and salsa as well as their house made hot sauces are also a nice touch, that's about it. After we were seated,we waited almost 15 minutes before we were acknowledged. We ordered 2 sodas and they were very watered down-maybe that's why they offer free refills? We ordered the guac and chips to start. It was tasty, however they stuff lettuce at the bottom of the bowl probably to make it look like there is more guacamole in there and at almost 13 dollars I found this to be pretty stingy on their part. Service was friendly but very slow. It took almost an hour to receive our mains. We each ordered a burrito and it was underwhelming to say the least. The Mexican rice was dry and bland, my short rib burrito was gross. The meat was dry and the seasonings just weren't....right. Maybe I was expecting too much as I visit Mexico several times a year and am in love with the cuisine. This was an attempt at Mexican done very poorly. The bathrooms stink of old urine as well. Really love this place. I visit about once a year when my friend comes home from abroad. They have delicious margaritas and if you order a virgin, it comes double the size in a large water glass (perks of being the DD!). The location is perfect, too: just on the shore of the Tay river near a stone bridge and trees. The old stone building is well preserved so the ambience is top notch. For a bustling spot, the service is consistently good. Today we didn't eat anything, but I recall from past visits the fajitas were good. read more

Beautiful setting on the river in Perth ON, excellent friendly service, nachos were very good, individually laid out and all topped!! individual fish tacos were great also, however we were disappointed with the drinks, sangria was juice and red wine (as indicated in the menu) with some pieces of fruit added, Marguerites were a from a mix and very bland! However being a little creative we smashed our fruit in the half sangria which added the much needed citrus and transferred that to the half marguerite and ended up with something drinkable, not the best but much improved!! We've eaten here twice and my wife and daughter, who don't love spice, are okay with the dishes here. They obviously cook to address the likely local palate (which probably is deterred by too much spice). I like to eat Thai, Mexican, Indian.. but my wife finds black pepper hot. So it is nice to find a place where I can get some of the flavours without my wife suffering (a counterpoint to a prior poster who lamented the lack of heat... I get that, but for us,a place with a milder default level of heat is okay). This time, we had the guac dip with chips as an app and it was pretty good. I think a squeeze more lime would have suited me, but I love lime. For main courses, my wife had the Funky Q quesadilla (chicken with pineapple so sweet more than hot) and I had the Banderas Enchiladas (2 chicken and 1 cheese enchilada with guac, sour cream, and enchilada sauce). Both were tasty. Now, is the depth of flavour and the heat what I have had in Mexico or in some other Tex Mex in larger centers? No. Was it tasty enough, yes. I believe the place has a small kitchen. That is probably why, if they are busy, they tend to try to hurry out the food. That's always the case when they have limited kitchen space. Our food was fine though. I had the Blue Lemonade minus the blue (lemonade and conconut rum) and my wife had some kind of virgin Volcano (fruity/slushy drink). Those were pleasant. We sat on the balcony/patio and that was fine (last time we sat indoors). Chairs aren't anything fantastic in either case, but they worked. The waitress we had was helpful, pleasant, and was doing her best (she seemed pretty busy). I've had better service in terms of speed, but otherwise I can't fault the service. It's likely the best Tex Mex you'll get unless you get into Ottawa (I can't think of better in Perth or Carleton Place). And Lone Star in Ottawa has declined rapidly over the past 5 years. So you'd have to go right downtown onto Elgin St. Mex & Co. is decent and I'd return there. My wife and daughter like the food. read more

Mex & Co was an excellent dining experience today! The restaurant is located right in Perth on the Tay River. The restaurant is a taste out of Mexico and as soon as you walk in you feel the theme. We were warmly greeted and were treated well beginning to end. The food was delicious and the service excellent. We were a group of 8 and everything from hello to goodbye was seamless. Kudos! Complimentary tortilla chips and salsa brought to the table right away - this was a nice way to start. The menu was plentiful, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos and more. It all looked terrific. I had a taco salad with beef. It was super good and I loved the edible bowl. Yum! I would order this again. All my friends had good things to say about their meals too. We dropped in today after walking along Gore Street and stoping by the Tay River. Mex & Co is right on the river and we had a seat on the patio/balcony overlooking the river. We were close enough to see the fish, some looked like four or five pounders, swimming up and downstream. I don't think I would like my catch of the day from there, however. This is a pleasant place with lovely ambience and the servers are friendly and efficient. I had the chicken Caesar wrap and my significant other had the short-rib street taco and the chicken taco. We heartily enjoyed everything. Perfectly seasoned and simply delicious. Not to forget that there is a complimentary serving of freshly made nachos and salsa to accompany the meal. I would recommend this restaurant. Our waitress was wonderful, our table overlooked the canal. The fish tacos were the best I have ate, and my husbands steak, was cooked just the way he liked it. This restaurant has an amazing patio. Service was fast and friendly. Had a chicken burrito I didn't read it right it came smothered and I was hoping for a plain burrito. All I need to say for this place is that the location is stunning, the staff are lovely, and the food is edible. If you know what authentic Mexican food is supposed to taste like... this isn't it. Had a quick meal of fish tacos and Chicken Chimichanga on the Mex & Co in Perth on the banks of the Tay Canal. My wife had the fish tacos which she said were very good and I had the Chimichanga which was a little different that what I was used because there were mushrooms in it and the salsa sauce covering it was slightly sweet. Not what I was used to but good none the less. The location may be the nicest in the Scottish grey stone town of Perth. The service was ok, but could be improved. For instance, the waitress said she would bring some chips and salsa but nothing came our way. Not that we needed more food but something felt like it was missing. Yes perhaps we should have asked for it though we didn't really need it. read more

Lovely ambiance along the river in Perth. Have came here several times over the summer. This is a great little Mexican spot.

Our family had a birthday celebration at this restaurant on July 16th. The food was excellent good as was the service. There was not a long wait for the food to be prepared and delivered. We had two small children in our dinner party, and they were treated as if they were real people, which is always impressive. Kudos to this restaurant. And kudos to Perth for having so many non-franchised restaurants to choose from. Pick this one if you are looking for a terrific casual dining experience, they know what they are doing! read more
