I liked the old Pioneer Square location better, but Metzger's is a landmark, an institution, a must-visit.

Staff is always friendly, the store is always fun to look around in, and they maps! Oh, how much fun it is to browse all the maps! They have classics, antiques, up to date, whatever you need! Oh man could I get lost in here. Everywhere you turn is another awesome map or globe. They've got everything from your USGS maps for outdoor adventures, to world maps, to historical maps, astronomy maps, nautical maps, and some other really fun niche maps. They also have travel guide books, geography puzzles and games, flags, and some fun map and flag-related knickknacks (like water bottles). If you have something obscure in mind, I bet these guys have it (or know exactly how to get it for you). Some of their globes and decorative maps are just breathtaking and would make for a beautiful gift for a special's someone's home or office. This is definitely one of my favorite shops in the Market. read more

Coolest store ever. They have everything and anything related to maps and the world. Ork posters galore, travel guides, globes of all sizes, etc. They manage to put so much in the store, but still keep it well organized. Metsker Maps is a great place to find that strange, unusual, and perfect map. I went there before I took a trip to Africa and was able to browse around and find exactly what I was looking for, of course I didn't get it thinking I would find it elsewhere, but thats another story. Although they didn't have exactly what I was looking for, they did come super close! It was pretty obscure so I wasn't even disappointed. Incredible and knowledgeable staff. I stopped into the store with my little Grand Daughter at the first of December as Pikes Market was gearing up for Christmas. My Grand Daughter has been enthralled with maps lately and I thought it would be a nice stop. The store is just fun! All sorts of map goodies to enjoy. My Grand Daughter picked out a map for her Daddy for Christmas. Uncertain how to purchase it and not let Daddy see it, as we were hanging out with Daddy at the time, the staff was helpful saying they have an online store. I returned to San Diego and placed my order adding a little gift for my Grand Daughter. Mesker's called me personally to state that the item I had ordered for my Grand Daughter was out of stock, but suggested an alternative. That is service! They are a landmark in Seattle that should not be missed, but they also give outstanding service. read more

This is a grand store in general, full of maps, globes, and puzzles and activities centered around maps and geography. On top of all that, I was thrilled to find a map book along the lines of the old Thomas Brothers map books that are no longer being published. I'd looked online and locally in the Tacoma area to no avail. I was so happy to find one here. My granddaughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit. read more

My wife and I went to Metsker Map in early September and fell in love with the store. They had everything we could possibly want and more. We purchased a globe and wall map to have shipped back to Chicago. In the shipping process UPS managed to damage not only the globe but the tube the wall map was in was torn in half and created a fold on the map. We reached out to Metsker to see if there was anything that we might be able to do. Without hesitation they helped us out and shipped a new globe table and new wall map. This store is first class from start to finish. When we purchase more travel items it will be from Metsker Maps! read more

This place is heaven for history buffs, social studies teachers, geography nerds, world travelers and globally curious people. They have all sorts of maps, look at other reviews to see which kinds. The people were great! I had a lady help me find a city map I wanted and I talked with the owner of the shop and he was very friendly. The prices are reasonable too! I bought the exact same Rand McNally US map at Borders for $4 more. The shop is just a couple blocks away from Pike's Place Market, which makes its location fantastic. Next time I come to Seattle, this will be one of the first places I come to. :-) read more

my experience at metsker's was sort of cosmic if you ask me. literally the night before i had been explaining to someone the exact type of maps i wanted to put up in my new condo...the next day i am showing a visitor around the market and we stumble upon a map store...i go inside and start sort of aimlessly flipping through a selection of maps and find the perfect thing....the staff was great, allowing us to browse and then quick to ring me out once i had decided. i will definitely return. read more

I'm a fan of maps. I don't know what it is about them, but they tickle me in ways that no other physical objects can. [/end map fiend rant] Anyway, it was my first time in Seattle and naturally, I wasn't too familiar with its streets, neighborhoods, and so forth. I didn't know about Metsker Maps prior to arriving because I assumed that I'd just get a map from the hostel or some other place but that didn't happen, so I asked the guy behind the check-in counter at my hostel about a good place to purchase a map and he immediately pointed Metsker out to me. I ventured out, went directly to it, and boy was I happy to be there. Upon entering, I was pretty overwhelmed to see all of the map-related items in the shop! The place isn't too big, but it isn't too small either (hooray for shops that aren't cramped!). I stood there and wondered where to begin. When you arrive at a place with a specific focus and its size is quite impressive, you kind of don't have an idea of where to begin because there is so much to see. Regardless of that, I was quickly relieved to find one specific section devoted to maps for the Seattle area and its surrounding areas within Washington (very close to the register near the front of the shop). There were many kinds of maps (laminated, brochure, paper, booklet, and anywhere in between), so I was pleased to find the perfect street map for me. I needed a durable, foldable street map that was clear and easy to follow (especially for a tourist like myself) and I found it for a great price. It was even tailor-made for finding specific landmarks of interest and other important locations. Very convenient and very well-designed. After I found the map I was looking for, I explored other sections within the store and lingered around longer than I thought. The sections are specific to different users (children, hobbyists, and so on) and there are globes, books, and other geography-related items in addition to a countless variety of maps for walls, directions, and other uses. I highly recommend this shop to map enthusiasts and anyone with poor direction. Once I come back to Seattle, I'm going back to Metsker again for my way-finding and "map-fiending" needs! read more

I've been a customer and fan of Metskers for years & sent visiting travelers & couchsurfers there so many times - it's so much nicer to support local places than just shop online. But I tried to exchange a $13 adapter (with its receipt) that I got as a gift, against $29 of new things, and the guy there said they only accept returns within two weeks (!?) and was a jerk about it. I guess I'll get these things online and send visitors to... local Amazon? So bummed out! read more

I may be partial as map collector and geography geek but this store is possibly my favorite store in the world! :) If I ever win the lottery this will be my first stop,Even if you don't like maps this place is worth a visit,great place for history buffs who are looking for historic maps,there is also books on travel and maps and the staff is very helpful.My favorite part is that there are many maps I find on Amazon,etc.. that I cannot find anyplace else but they most of the time have it.And the price is always fair,I could spend hours saying how great this store is but I won't , so if you can't tell I highly recommend stopping in. read more

Metsker's is fantastic. I love browsing this store anytime I am downtown. I always find at least one Christmas present here, and have to walk away from about a dozen things I would like for myself. When I was given incorrect information over the phone about a particular map being in stock, they gave me a deep discount on a pricier version of the map I wanted.
