Escalators and elevators are available to reach the train platforms. It takes a few minutes to get to train platform level as the escalators go very deep underground. There is also an elevator from the outside ground level to the lower level station entrance on the Northeast corner of Nieuwe Vizjelstraat and Weteringshans. Once you reach the station entrance level you must scan your ticket (physical or digital), chipped credit card, or QR code from relevant transportation pass at the electronic turnstile entrances to enter. You must also scan the same method upon exit, so make sure you have enough funds or time on your card so you don't get stuck inside a station! The entrance looks like any other station on the Metro, and there are a small number of ticket machines. I didn't notice any staff around the station to offer assistance. The station is fairly small, but that isn't a bad thing, there's a single platform for two tracks, the left side is one direction, and the right side is the other, with all three lines serving the same platform. This is great if you do need to change lines, although you will need to be alert and pay attention before boarding your train to check you're getting on the right one. 3* - OK, average station on the Metro, It serves the Nieuwmarkt square in central Amsterdam and is a useful station to change between lines. It is also right next to De Wallen, so would be the station you'd use if heading to the Red Light District or Amsterdam's China Town.

It is only on one line, but the Amsterdam Metro is quick and small, so it shouldn't be too much of a bother changing lines or travelling within the city. It's easy to get in and out of the station through the escalators from the platform to street level, despite being the deepest metro station on the network, you wouldn't realise that! Upon leaving the station, there is the De Pijp neighbourhood with various businesses, including a Joe and the Juice, pretty much right outside. There's also a tram stop outside where you can continue your journey around the city. 4* - It's clean and modern and provides connections to the tram network too, allowing easy access to points around the city.

Very exposed as the station is on the bridge over the canal. Yes, there is some glass to block the wind but on a chilly, rainy day, it was rather uncomfortable. This stop is serviced by Tram 4 between the Prinsengracht and the Rembrandtplein stops. There are no ticketing machines here but there is a sign indicating how long you'll need to wait until the next train. From the stop, you can see a few blocks in each direction so that you can also see the tram coming. Note that you need to board through the appropriate doors of the tram. There is one next to the driver at the front of the tram and there is one in the middle of the rear section of the tram, which had a staffed counter if you need to purchase a ticket. This stop services lines 1, 2 and 5 as they head to and from Centraal station, in this part of town along the Leidsestraat. You will need to board the tram at the appropriate marked doors as two are for getting on and two are for diembarking. The center door has a staffed desk where you can buy a ticket. It is a busy residential neighborhood with apartments, restaurants and shops so there are people around in the evening hours. As is the custom with Amsterdam's tram stops there is a bench for seating on each side of the street in the directions the tram goes. There is no ticketing machine but there is a visible indicator which displays the time to the next train, its line number and destination. Board the train at the appropriate doors. This is a high end area and this station could be passed without noticing the trains or the trams. I give it five stars for the beauty of the architecture blending in with the surroundings as well as the travel options this station allows. If I were lazy after visiting friends out here and didn't want to cycle home, I could either get on a train or tram to eventually get home (hint - cycling is always faster and more reliable in Amsterdam). Nice station for going towards Utrech or Amsterdam Centraal. From those two options - you can get everywhere in Western Europe.

The workers were all very helpful whenever we needed assistance. We were most appreciative that the convenience store was open later for when we would come back from the main part of the city late at night and need snacks and beverages. We used the train to get to Centraal Station, but used the tram system just outside the station to visit the Museumplein. Both systems are very user friendly and easy to navigate for foreigners. 5/2020
