I returned from being out of town for a couple of days to find my A/C won't turn on. I had a similar problem last summer, and a tech came out and changed the blown capacitor. Based on the symptoms of the unit and my previous experience, I was pretty sure I needed a new capacitor.
I called a "friend of a friend" to come help me out. When he showed up, I was told my compressor was shot, and my repair options were pretty much limited to installing a jumper kit, or replacing the unit. The jumper kit apparently does not guarantee it will work, and if it does, it may be for a year or so - then ultimately replacing the compressor/unit. This just didn't seem right as I had the unit serviced a year ago, and the unit is not that old.
I was able to get through to Metropolitan for a second opinion and Tom came out first thing Saturday morning. Not only did he arrive on such short notice, but he was able to pinpoint that it was indeed a bad capacitor again. He took out the capacitor and showed me exactly how he determined that is was blown (something the other tech did not do) He was able to repair my unit and get my air going in less than an hour. He shared a lot of knowledge and confirmed my compressor was just fine. His repair costs were reasonable, and he saved me a big head ache and a lot of money. I highly recommend Metropolitan Heating Co. read more
