We chose the Metropol after it was recommended by our Uber driver. Although there was a wait, we got lucky and were able to find a place at the bar. Ordered an Old Fashionrd and Puerto Rican Mule. The OF was simply outstanding! The bartenders used Woodford as a standard which was even better. Drinks were reasonably priced at $10 & $12. I ordered the shrimp Mofongo and hubby ordered the skirt steak. The shrimp Mofongo was good and my husband loved the steak and the rice that came with it. The bartenders were super friendly and loved the overall energy of the restaurant. Not to mention - the location can't be beat!

Worst baked "Chillo" (Red Snapper) I have ever... Buyer beware

Worst baked "Chillo" (Red Snapper) I have ever tasted. It came out in record time. (In other reputable restaurants they let you know it's about 30-40 min) Did not eat it. They advertise "fresh". I love fishing and constantly eat fish out. I know FRESH fish from frozen. I spoke with the waitress. She did nothing but charge full price. On the way out I mentioned to the hostess, she got the manager. No discount nothing, but: " we will take care of you next time" 411 there will not be a next time. Buyer beware

1/2 Cornish Hen with Black rice. Delish!

This place is across the street from the Sheraton Convention Center & Casino. I highly recommend it. I was here a a Friday solo and was seated near the bar. It was very loud at about 4:30PM with folks into their TGIF mood, so I understood and enjoyed the people watching( mostly men) opportunity. I had the very tasty 1/2 Cornish hen which you could pull from the bone with a folk with a black rice. I should not have ordered the green plantains, my 1st time trying the green. I prefer the ripe, I learned so that's on me. The white sangria was the perfect drink to accompany my entree. Service was vey prompt and I got my food sooner than I expected. In the attached photo, I have already shredded the breast portion of the Cornish hen. I took the thigh/leg portion in a togo box, to much food. I asked for hot sauce and got the one shown in my photo. That kicked the flavor up another notch into the Wow category. My bill came to about $20 before taxes and tip. If you omit the Sangria, this dinner would be inexpensive compared to what I am used to.

Sampler Criollo

If you come here and happen to get a server named Roberto, then you are in for a good time! This guy has such a great personality and we were amazed at his beautiful singing voice when he came out singing at one point. The Sampler Criollo is HUGE and a great way to try different items on the menu amongst your group. As for the entrees, they were properly seasoned and cooked well with each respective dish. I enjoyed the seafood stew, but the skirt steak was the best entree and the accompanying rice, beans, and plantains were tasty. The flan was a little too sweet for my liking to enjoy the entire piece, but for sharing it was just fine. I'm not sure if I would have rated this place a 5/5 if it weren't for Roberto's service. The food was good, but didn't blow me away whereas Roberto made it an experience to remember.

We arrived around 9 PM and there was a waitlist. We didn't think we would be able to get in as the place closes at 10. This just speaks to the popularity of the place and they were able to get us in fairly quickly. Service and food were great for the busyness of the restaurant. We both order the Mofongo and they were full of flavor but the meat and plantains were really hard to eat. We are concluding that maybe that is a style of it for this specific restaurant. The chicken wing is worth phenomenal very juicy and very well seasoned.

Skirt steak

Metropol delivers exactly what you want when you're craving classic Puerto Rican comfort food -- generous portions, bold flavor, and consistently solid execution. We ordered the fried chicken with mashed potatoes, churrasco (skirt steak) with arroz con gandules, grilled potatoes with peppers and onions, and fries -- and every plate came out hot, well-seasoned, and substantial. The fried chicken had a crisp, golden crust and stayed juicy inside. The mashed potatoes were indulgent (cheese and bacon done right). The churrasco was the standout: nicely charred, flavorful, and cooked properly for the cut. The rice had authentic depth -- you can taste the sofrito and pork. This isn't a trendy, minimalist dining experience -- it's hearty, satisfying, and true to traditional Caribbean flavors. The atmosphere was lively and energetic, service was efficient, and the value for portion size is hard to beat. If you're in San Juan and want dependable, flavorful Puerto Rican staples without pretense, Metropol absolutely delivers. Would return without hesitation.

Food and drinks were good. It's a must try one time. Try something new and ask questions!

Stopped here while on vacation in PR, Service was ok could have been friendlier given the vibe of being bothered. The food was not so good. we went in for quick bites as we were not very hungry we ordered some appetizers like Bacalaitos (overcooked and super greasy), Wings (overcooked no sauce to dip), Shrimp stuffed Plantains - Tostones rellenos de Camarones( plantains were super salty and hard like cooked for a while and left out for a while before being served). Drinks were the only thing that saved our day, We had a Coconut Mojito and a Sangria Kudos to the bartender. Being in the San Juan convention area I expected better service.

Lasagna with Rice & Beans

Located across from the beside the Convention Center, Sheraton Hotel and Districto T-Mobile - you can walk over for a great meal. The restaurant is vibrant, buzzing and stays busy. We sat on the patio to watch the cyclist riding by on a Tuesday evening. Our server was very friendly and attentive. He was working the entire patio so he had to juggle a bunch. He also provided some recommendations on what to eat. We ordered the calamari to start, Steak Mofongo, Fish Tacos, Fries, Lasagna, Rice & Beans, Pepper Steak, House Salad and Maduros for dinner. To drink we had Sangria and a Margarita. Dining with picky teenagers is always a task but we were successful here. They loved their entrees and came back the next day for more! My Pepper Steak was tasty. Paired with rice - it was how I remembered it growing up in the Bronx. This is a local restaurant with a few locations on the island. Definitely worth a visit!

Great service and good food . Menu is Puerto Rican dishes . Enjoy the sampler . Children's cheeseburgers of three was big enough for adult. Enjoyed my steak with egg. Vegetables and plantains were tasty. Enjoyed sitting outdoor with nice breeze.

Pernil (roast pork), moros (black beans and rice) and tostones (twice-fried plantains)...Cuban food craving taken care of!
Giselle C.

I went to Metropol for lunch on my first afternoon in San Juan. I was so happy to see they had Cuban offerings, so that's what I went with. I ordered the roast pork with moros (black beans and rice cooked together) and tostones (twice fried plantains). Everything was delicious! The portions are large enough to share, even if you're hungry! Service was a little slow, but efficient and friendly. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area again!

The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful, and the service was excellent from beginning to end, from the hostess to the servers and bussers. Our server, Jeffery, was amazing! He was energetic, professional, attentive, and you can genuinely tell he takes his position seriously. I loved that! We were greeted with complimentary sopa de plátano and bacalaítos, and I was NOT expecting to love them as much as I did. This was by far the best sopa de plátano I've ever had. I never thought I could fall in love with a soup, but here we are! (I ordered a whole extra regular size bowl )The bacalaítos were another surprise because they're normally not something I order or even particularly like--and I've tried quite a few in my life--but these were absolutely delicious. My S/O and I shared the churrasco with arroz mamposteao, along with a side of avocado salad and majado de viandas. Everything was a straight 10/10. Not one disappointment on the table. They also make an amazing Rojo Pico, which was the perfect addition to the experience. 100% recommend Casita Miramar. Don't overthink JUST GO! I'm not able to emphasize how small this restaurant is, it's located right along the main walking strip in Coronado Beach. Maybe 10 tables or so. No reservations walk up wait in line if you have to eat and leave. Not only will you eat the best tasting food during your trip, but probably also pay the least amount of money. We went here twice! Kept seeing a bunch of reviews on how amazing this place was and honestly it's up there…read more To start off, I'm not really a sweets guy so my take is going to be a little off from the general public. We were able to snag a reservation but for a late time which was about an hour and a half before close. The service was super great but one thing I wished they mentioned that the bottled water was going to be a $40 charge lol. Makes sense for any upscale restaurant though. Should've mentioned we wanted tap so fair warning, ask cause you WILL get charged haha. We had a group of 10 and for how big the group was, the food came out pretty fast. I don't think we ever had a time between drinks to entrees where we were waiting for food to come out. We got the watermelons mojito for drinks since it was the most raved about. It was good but personally nothing crazy for me. 8/10 score on that. We also curry popcorn chicken, the ahi tuna lollipops, the empanadillas and the goat cheese quesadillas for apps and honestly overall 9/10. This is where I don't like the sweetness part of this meal. The empanadillas were what I was most excited for but it was more sweet then savory which sort of lose my appetite a little. I think if you like that kind of taste then it's going to be good. It wasn't a bad taste at all. Just too sweet for my liking. The curry popcorn chicken was good and the lollipops were great. Again, nothing crazy. The goat cheese quesadillas was good as well but again, too sweet for my liking. Now on to the entree, they didn't have the porkchop since we came late so I ended up getting the porkchop belly dish. When it came out, it looked amazing but then I got a whiff of it and smelled cinnamon. That's when I was sort of disappointed. It was like eating pork but tasting Cinnamon Toast Crunch and as said before, it tasted great but too sweet for me. This one was way too sweet to where it seemed like a dessert item. I just had poor luck and got one of the one items that were sweet. This doesn't tank the rating down whatsoever because I also should've read it had cinnamon. It would've been great if they made a dipping sauce or something to pair it with and not have it on the pork belly itself. I got to try other dishes my friends got which were good as well but I wish I got to try something else. If I came back I would try the sold out item which was the pork shank or the sea bass. I know for a fact the sea bass was amazing. Had a bite of it and thought "I'll come back for that" Overall, 10/10 experience and nothing bad about the place but gotta try different items when I go next time. I understand the hype now

I suggest doing reservations at least 3 weeks in advanced if you want to time that you want especially during peak days like Fri, Sat, etc. When we came in, the staff were very hospitable to us. This establishment has was very intimate, well lit; upon entry the music was a bit loud but then became manageable for casual conversation. We saw a good amount of large parties as well so they have good reputation for celebratory outings. We started off with drinks, ordered the Paper Plane, was very sour but wasn't bad in my opinion (Rating: 7.1/10), but the Perfect Lady on the other hand, was amazing lavender goodness, I don't think I have had a bad lavender drink yet from any place I have had so glad they kept the train going (Rating: 9.0/10). Next, for appetizers we ordered the Empanadas, that have different flavors everyday. The day that we came, the flavor was BBQ pulled pork, which I personally absolutely loved. Crispy, not hard exterior, hot and fresh (Rating 8.8/10). For the entrees, we ordered the Tacos De Mero Empanados (Fish Tacos with Chipotle Coleslaw) and the Milanesa De Pollo. The fish tacos were definitely the best dish at the table, came with 3 tacos that had rich flavors, ordered from the "Daily Specials" section of the menu (Rating 8.4/10). Next, the Milanesa De Polla was a large, breaded chicken breast that was honestly good for multiple people, came with side of arugula and cherry tomatoes with light dressing (almost nonexistent to be honest). It came with a sauce on top, like an aioli that wasn't bad honestly. This dish was a good safe option if you aren't sure what to get (Rating 8.1/10). I wanted to originally order the Pastelon De Amarillos but they were out of stock of that dish during the visit. Overall, Santaella offers pretty extensive menu with foundations of a high quality restaurant. Their service during our visit was definitely top of the line, no complaints. I just wished they had more than 2 single use bathrooms as the line definitely added up which could pose an issue for guests with urinary urgency/frequency. Pricing also wasn't horrible, was able to get a full course dinner for 2 for under $150 so can't really complain, just check their menu before going if you want specifics. They also have Rooftop Sundays at Azotea for those who are interested in their alternative dining setting. This place was good nonetheless and I would recommend it, is right in between fine dining and casual making it good for those dressier date nights.
