The whole wall area has bubbled up and is molding, with the tile floor at the bottom starting to look pretty nasty. There has seemingly been minimal/no attention given to this. The rest of the gym looks pretty spacious, locker rooms are decent.

He welcomed me when I came in and showed me around the gym, explaining how it was laid out and where I can find certain pieces of equipment. This included equipment like the pendulum squat, which can't be found in most commercial gyms. He also showed me where much of the power lifting equipment was and even discussed the childcare. I spent the next 90 minutes using amazing equipment such as Rogue, Precor, and my personal favorite, Arsenal. The culture in the gym was great. Everyone was working towards their own personal goals, all while supporting and assisting each other. They were even being spotters for others in the gym who they did not know, but supported nevertheless. Other gymgoers were not playing on their phones or hanging out in the gym, showing they were all there for a reason. After a good 90 minute workout, I went back and spoke to Chad. I told him I wanted to get a membership, paying for an entire year up front. Chad was able to do all this without pressuring me at all, which seems to be uncommon in the gym world. He lets the gym and the culture the staff at Fitness 1 has created, along with others in the gym, sell the product. All of this came with no hidden fees, which is just icing on the cake. Fitness 1 is a hidden "gym" in the fitness industry. It is an example of what all gyms should be and should be mirrored.

A gentleman named Jake gave us a tour and was very respectful of the limited amount of time I had to spend on the tour. A great part about Mountainside fitness is that they allow 12-year-olds to join so that means my daughter can come with me! I witnessed multiple children putting toys in their mouths (which is totally normal for kids), but what was concerning was that those same toys were often placed right back into shared play areas. While I later learned there is a designated bin for toys that have been in kids' mouths, this wasn't communicated upfront, and I didn't see it being consistently used or enforced. There also seemed to be inconsistency when it came to staff involvement. Across my two visits, I did see some staff members actively cleaning up and returning toys to their proper places, which I appreciated. However, I also observed others simply picking up toys and dropping them into corners of the rooms without any real organization or sanitizing. I completely understand that keeping up with kids is a challenge--I'm a parent too--but that's where consistent staff engagement becomes really important. Another issue was the level of parental supervision. Many parents were on their phones while their kids played freely. Again, that's ultimately a parenting responsibility, but in a shared environment like this, it contributes to the overall hygiene and safety concerns. I also want to mention that I found the staff presentation a bit unprofessional, which added to the overall impression that things weren't being closely managed. To be fair, you do sign a waiver regarding illness, and I understand that no play space can be completely germ-free. However, I did end up contracting chickenpox exactly 10 days after visiting, which makes me seriously question the effectiveness of their cleaning and sanitizing practices. Overall, this place is incredibly cute and full of potential. With more consistent staff involvement, clearer communication, better sanitization systems, and encouragement for parents to stay engaged, it could be an amazing environment. Right now, though, it falls short of what it could and should be.

Metroflex is the worst gym I've ever been to. Gym floor is dirty and has bugs crawling across it all the time. Bathrooms are the worst bathrooms I've ever walked into. Staff is very unprofessional and use the facility as their personal daycare and dog park. Members and staff bring their dogs into the gym, most the trainers that work there are either on their phones or stoned. Worst gym ever to workout at. Don't recommend it at all. You cant cancel your membership if you tried every way. They double and triple charge you almost every month and don't fix it. I had to cancel my debit card because they won't cancel my membership. People drop down to their underwear and pose in the middle of the gym floor when they have 2 rooms for that. They have a 2 yr old running around all day on the gym floor where weights and people workout at, like it's his playpen. They keep the backdoor dead bolted so you can't get out is there is an emergency. 50% of the equipment is broken and is "getting fixed" in a month. After being there for 9 months it's all still broken. Fire extinguishers are expired or empty. If I could give 0 stars I would read more

I've been a member of this gym since they opened. I had been a member of many elite gyms from across the United States. This gym is unique and results oriented. It's not for everyone but it is for me and all who continue going. When others complain about petty stuff it usually because of other challenges they had at the gym. The owner is awesome I've never been to a gym where the simple passion of helping others get to their goals are the main focus and not lining his pockets with money. If you show passion he steps in with his knowledge. No other gym has ever done this in all the gyms I've ever been a member of. When reading these posts consider the source and what motivated these people to post such negativity. This gym has been what helped me to step way beyond my comfort zone. I live right near the Metroflex gym. It's about a five minute walk from my apartment. I went on here and saw all the bad reviews, but gave it a try anyway. Its all true. had trouble canceling my membership, the workers were rude and not helpful. On my walk there I saw empty heroin needles! I am sure you saw the ABC15 story about that, but the gym could at least try getting rid of them on their property. The actual gym is filled with bugs and no one wipes off the equipment. read more

I had attempted to lose the 25-30lbs id put on for ~2-2.5 years with zero traction. Everything he said just clicked - for the 1st time in a long time, it felt not only possible but likely that I would be able lose the weight. And 9+ weeks in that feeling hasn't gone away. Thanks to Dave and my Trainer Tripp (honestly one of the most knowledgeable trainers i've ever met), and despite my newly discovered hypothyroidism, I've lost 3 inches off my waist, I have the confidence to take pictures with my family/niece and even been able to bring a few items of clothing out of retirement! And all this was possible without being forced to eat salads or protein shakes all day. Dave taught me how to be accountable for myself and my food. If I want dessert, and make sure I have it budgeted into my daily calories and I eat that dessert. He genuinely cares about his clients and his only goal is for your to reach your goals, and in the process teach you how to eat for the rest of your life. Honestly, could have easily gotten double the money out of me for the following 9 weeks program but because I was doing well with my nutrition, he moved me to a less hands-on 9-week program. Despite this, I was instructed to complete another set. During that final set, I injured my back badly enough that I could not walk afterward. At no point was the exercise stopped, reduced, or modified when I reported pain. I still can't squat, my back isn't fully recovered. Afterward, communication was disappointing. When my husband and I later explained that we needed to pause training due to finances, we received no response. Regardless of certification or experience level, a trainer should prioritize client safety, listen when pain is reported, and communicate professionally. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. Update: After posting this review, the trainer contacted me and offered me money to take my review down. Since he can't contact me he reached out to my husband regarding my review. I am adding this update for transparency.
