Having grown up in the STL area I have known about this building since I was a little kid. The location is pretty awesome and used to be a party supply store. It closed a few years back and sat empty for a while. A few years back Metro opened their doors and I for some reason ignored it until early February. I know very little about guns. I guess I know more than your average person but that is not saying much in my opinion. I grew up around shotguns and rifles and am a pretty good shot, but those are not MY guns. A year or so ago I decided I wanted to get a pistol for defense and sport. After talking to many of my friends and hopping onto the Google mobile I had my heart set on a Glock 19. HA! Good luck finding one of those right now. They are like Gold. I finally remembered that Metro was 5 minutes from my house and decided to go in one day. When I went in I talked to John. Let me stop right now and just say that John is Awesome... if you go in ask to talk to him. Ok back to the story. John asked me why I wanted the G19 and I explained it to him. He highly recommended I look into a different gun. John was 100% correct. The gun he recommended was a tad bit more but it fit me better and I absolutely love it. The cool thing is anything you buy here comes with a free 1 year range membership! THAT IS A $200 VALUE! These guys are not commission which is cool. I know this is true because I have seen them walk a sale because the gun the person wanted would not be a good fit. My dad was looking and was thinking about a fairly expensive gun. The guy he was dealing with (sorry man I forgot your name) asked him what he wanted it for and recommended that he wait until they get a cheaper gun in. My dad was ready to pull the trigger (pun intended) on this sale however the guy was looking out for my dad's best interest which is awesome! The indoor range is really nice and if you are a member affordable at $6 an hour. It is kept very nice and has excellent ventilation which is EXTREMELY important. I have not had to use them for any classes yet BUT they are priced affordable. Currently a CCW class is $150 which is a fair price. read more

As a 21-year-old making my first legal firearm purchase, my experience at Metro Shooting Supplies on St. Charles Rock Rd in Bridgeton, MO was extremely disappointing and concerning. After selecting the firearm I wanted, I provided my ID and was instructed to pay the full purchase price ($800) before the background check paperwork was completed. While filling out the background check application, they had already taken my payment. Only after my money was taken did they say that the address on my ID did not match the address I listed on the application. I explained that the address on my license was old and that the application reflected my current address. They told me I needed proof of address. I then drove about 20 miles back home and returned to the store with a check stub showing my address. When I returned, I was told that it would not be accepted. At that point I asked for my money back since I never received the firearm and the transaction could not be completed. The founder, Steve King, and the general manager, James Tomlinson, told me that they charge a 25% restocking/cancellation fee. This made no sense to me because I never received the firearm and did not cancel anything--the purchase simply could not proceed. I was then told that I could not receive my $800 cash back, and that I would have to wait for a check in the mail with 25% deducted from my money. My question is simple: why was my payment taken before verifying that my identification and address met the requirements to complete the purchase? For a first-time buyer trying to follow the law, this experience felt extremely unfair. I paid for a product I never received and was told I would lose a large portion of my money anyway. I hope the owners review this situation and make it right. Until then, I would strongly advise other customers to make absolutely sure all documentation is verified before paying, because in my case $800 was taken before basic verification was completed. read more

Went in with my buddy to look at some sights for his AR. Short Country fella wearing a cowboy hat with a beard working the counter started messing with my buddy's AR, fitting different sights on. He told us the price of a sight we liked and my buddy said alright I'm going to buy it online. The man then demanded $20 as a "gun smithing fee". Nothing was mentioned before about any charge to touch my buddy's rifle. When we refused and said we can make this a legal matter 3 of them started getting agitated and demanded we leave the store and followed us out with their pistols. DO NOT shop here unless you want to be panhandled by the employees!!! read more

I just left this store 40 minutes ago and I asked for 9mm shells but was given .40. Can I come in when your store opens back up and exchange them for the correct ammunition? I just came from there. I needed just one box of defense 9mm ammo. You can't look around. They keep it behind the counter. The guy gave me a little baggy with loose JHP rounds in it - 20 for $32. There was a little tag in there saying they are S&B's. With tax, I paid $37.00 for 20. I prefer Critical Defense. They said this is all they have because there is a shortage. (Curious, because I have not encountered a shortage and I buy in bulk.) I needed this small quantity right away for something so I got the small baggy, and vowed never to return. I got back to my computer to check, and I see on AmmoSeek that S&B JHP sells for $17 for 50. Additionally, as I suspected, most experts believe that S&B JHP is an inadequate self defense round. So, to sum up, this is a store that was willing to sell me the wrong ammo at an exorbitant price. If I were you, I would go somewhere else. Guns are serious business. They make you put a down payment $1000 on a Sig and after finding out my background check was denied they only returned $750. I've been to just about every range in St. Louis. Save for a handful. Metro has knowledgeable and experienced staff. The staff is approachable as well. There are some ranges that don't treat POC very well. Metro isn't one of them. They'll always have my business, I've been treated superbly here. Fair pricing and payment options. Have questions, ask away. They are there to educate you. People who complain about gun prices are leaving out one important factor. If you purchase a gun you get a complimentary 12 month range membership. That is why the price is a bit higher than other stores. But I've never had anything but excellent service there. This is the worst place to go. I came into town for the holiday and wanted to shoot with my son in law to not only bond however also see his skill set. The range requires you to buy their AR shells which ok one bad notch. Then range is small 25 yards the farthest. They then want to charge $10 per bullet that goes in roof which even though I wasn't worried about hitting ceiling that price is excessive. My son couldn't shoot an AR pistol because they need an expert to make sure he can handle smh. Then I was asked to leave because I shot 10 rounds as he say's rapid I'm like really from a handgun when people come in ranges with automatic weapons. I corporate didn't cause a scene even though I was forced to pay $48. I knew it was bogus and racism as the white fellow told me he had been shooting like that and people earlier were as well. I live in the south and I'm so not quick to call racism unless I'm positive. I followed every rule given as I go to the range often back In Georgia. They were telling me they don't want my business and I'm ok with that. I suggest other ranges because they range isn't sufficient to begin with however open late then to have to leave not even a warning because I so called rapid fire my firearm. It's an average place to go the range, nothing to write home about. They have crazy rules such as : If a round hits the target holder, you have to pay for it. No rapid firing They charge $21 for an hour when some places, you can shoot the whole day for $21. Staff seems workable, but the prices for firearms are worse than Bass Pro ... Very High!! The gun range is hot...The sweaty hot and uncomfortable kind with an underpowered filtration system. On top of that you are required to buy their overpriced ammo. To add insult to injury you need to be certified by them to shoot anything of a higher caliber than a BB gun (ok that a little harsh, but yeah need to be certified by them to shoot an AR pistol?) I purchased an overpriced AR (that's my bad) from them and received a free 1 year membership that I did not use because they are still more expensive with their membership than other ranges (think off Manchester). All that said the guys that work there are very nice and friendly thus Metro receives a 1 star in my book. read more

Went to Metro to use their range and I had a blast. Literally and figuratively... Seriously though, they are a very, very professional staff, and very friendly as well. You can't beat the location, and being so close to my workplace, Metro makes for a convenient location if I ever want to hit the range at lunch. If you need training, these guys can do it. From what I have heard, their instructors are top notch. I'll definitely be back, and I am thinking that the best way to go is a membership for 199.00. The membership pays for itself considering you get 60% off range fees which can be expensive... At 18.00 per hour for normal members if you hit the range 10 times you're sitting at 180 vs 60.00 . Plus you get discounts on gun rentals, and ammo. Can't beat it. I wish they had a Five-seveN or SCAR 16 in the rental cabinet. The reason for 2 stars are one thing...prices. Much higher than local shops. Range prices - $18 a lane, not bad, 2 shooters one lane $18 each. Yikes. No other range around charges this when splitting a lane. Need range ammo - $20 a box 9mm no other options...yikes. I get it. You gotta make money on stuff you sell and services, but compared to every other shop within 20mi this is much more than they charge. Also range wise, they nickel and dime everything ($6 charge for shooting their $.50 cent target holder)...I'd never even heard such a thing. Disclaimers everywhere. 2-3 seconds between shots. I get it the average joe is a terrible shot. Still compared to other shops, this is overkill. Turns off competent frequent shooters. $65 to shoot 2 boxes of their ammo and split a lane. Pretty crazy. Shame on me for not bringing my own ammo at a minimum. Last, upstairs pricing for their guns, overpriced by 5-10% compared to other shops around. Pelican cases...wow almost double what you'd find at big box stores or Amazon. The guys who work here were very nice and knowledgeable. Clean shop. Great selection. But the prices are a killer, I'll drive 15 minutes to save $50 on a gun (free range passes or not) or $100 on a case. After checking a few prices I left. read more

As a new shooter my experience with Metro has been all positive. I have taken the classes, made firearm purchases, and have been to the range many times this year. The instructor, (John) was knowledgeable and effective. The other staff members seem decent. The prices for all services and items seem competitive from my little research. I can easily ask for help with anything and immediately get assistance. I follow the rules and stay friendly with staff members, so my interactions at Metro have been fine. I reccomend. read more

Cant recommend this range as a competent shooter. They give you a decent rate if your LE but they charge for literally every little thing. I was shooting a standard silhouette, in which the head extends a couple inches above the massive plastic target holder. I was shooting head shots and pulled one shot into the forehead area of the silhouette, which was in front of the plastic target holder. I get to the desk and get a $10 charge for one shot which was placed into the target area of my sillouette...absolute nonsense. Not to forget, the guy behind the range counter acts like you're an inconvenience just for being there. I'll be driving the extra 15 minutes to UD or Sharps next time for the greater value and cordial customer service. read more

If I could give them 0 stars I would. My boyfriend is a member and we were charged a non memeber fee. They asked and knew it was our first time there but failed to tell us to give the membership card along with our IDs. The 2 people that were supposed to be helping us had very racist dismissive attitudes and didn't help the situation by calling us liars to our faces. Ill start out with the good: nice, large facility and they offer 1 stop convenience for almost any firearm need. However, the prices are high ($200 on the $520 MSRP rifle I was looking at and $100 on the $450 pistol) the staff is rude if you dare mention lower prices, and their range policies are unfriendly at best. An example is the requirement to buy your centerfire ammunition from them in order to fire it on the range. So not only do you pay their range fee PER PERSON, pay for their targets, but also must pay their ammunition prices to use the range. If you are looking for a range that is high on promoting safety, Metro Shooting is the place to go. Improper handling and ignorance are the primary reasons unnecessary incidents and deaths occur with guns. There has to be a lot of forethought about using, maintenance, and handling a gun. I took lessons on using and shooting. The lesson taught safety, stance, and aim and how to shoot. I also get tips on how to improve my shooting aim and technique. I chose Metro for my concealed carry class because of their backgrounds and their views about safety. Everyone I have encountered in the Belleville location has either a Police or military background, which heightens my trust with the information they give me. Anyone can own and handle a gun, but not everyone can control what a bullet hits when it is fired from a gun. Please think safe and be safe. read more

Went in to look for a holster for my P229. I found one, and took it up to the counter to ask about a price. The conversation went as follows: Me: "Can you tell me the price on this?" Worker: "It says it on the shelf." Me: "I didn't see any prices displayed." Worker: "They are behind the product on a tag on the hanger." Me: "I didn't think to look behind all the packages for a price." He stares at me like I'm stupid and I just stand there waiting for a few seconds. Me: "So can you tell me the price?" He sighs heavily, takes the package and walks over to his computer, scans it and says "Forty Nine Ninety Five. Fifty Buck." to which I reply "Oh." I had purchased the same style and brand holster for another gun at Cabela's for $30, so I asked "Are you negotiable at all on prices or are they set in stone?" Him: "Yeah." Me: "Yeah your negotiable?" Him: "You don't go in Walmart and ask them to take $2 for a package of diapers they have listed at $9 do you?" Me: "No, but if I know target down the road has them for $5 I'll ask walmart to price match." Him: "No you don't." Me: "Yeah, I do because they have a price match policy." Him: "Oh, well I wouldn't know, I don't shop at Walmart." Me: "Then why bring it up?" Him: "To prove a point." I start walking towards the door. Recently I went to this shooting range with a member to shoot for a bit. We were surprised at how rude the staff was and how we were treated. I would not recommend this range to anyone. I know that there are safety measures in place but to treat a member or a potential member rudely is over the top. I don't believe that they really care about customer service and keeping their customers happy. Volume is probably what they are looking for. It seems to me once they have your membership dues you really don't matter and they are not there to help you so don't waste your $200 getting a membership here. read more

Just got back from attempting to use this facility. I called ahead of time to be sure I could use my Winchester 32-20 at this range. The gentleman said yes I could. I get there, then they tell me I have to buy my ammunition from them. Of course, they do not have 32-20 ammunition. Why was I not informed of that when I told the person on the phone what I had? I shot here with my son before. Both of us hand load. We had no problem then. So now, if you hand load and want to try different loads you are out of luck. You have to buy from their limited stock of overpriced ammunition. And, as in my case, they don't carry it you are going home. Anyone who shoots and actually knows anything knows you find a load that shoots well and stick with it. Very unprofessional of them to not tell me before I drove there. read more

I left a gun for sale with these guys in their Belleville store at an agreed upon sale price. They sold the gun for substantially less and told me I had agreed to it (I had not). Tried to talk to the person they said was the owner, Steven King, he said he would call back. A week and several calls later I'm still waiting on that call, they are always "too busy". It was my first and last visit to their range. I paid $0.70 per round for Federal American Eagle .223 at their range. In case you are unaware, this is about twice the current market price for this ammunition. They give no discount at all for a second shooter in a lane like every other range I have been to. Each shooter on the lane has to pay the full $18 per head. I have some issues with how expensive my visit was, but the thing that pissed me off was the following: I requested 2 boxes of .223 to shoot. I only shot one box because I was having issues with my gun. When I went back to the counter to pay for the shooting session, ammo, and materials I handed the clerk the unopened box of .223 to take back so I didn't have to be charged for it. He told me that his boss told him it is against federal law for them to take the ammo back. THIS IS A LIE. There is no federal law that states this. It would have been fine if they just told me it is store policy. I don't like being lied to. Because of this, I'm never doing business with this company, and I am telling my friends and family to stay away as well. There are better places to go in the area even if the drive is much longer. read more

The majority of reviews are right on. The staff is completely rude and prices are way, way above retail. Get an up front price before going into the range. After you are finished they will confront you with a price which is $30 higher than what you are expecting. Don't ask questions. Open 7 days/wk, Mo-Sa 10a-8p, but on Sundays 10a-4p. I went to the St. Chas Rock Rd location, not the Belleville location. Excellent ventilation and friendly staff. Ventilation is very important at an indoor firing range, so that you breathe in as little lead dust as possible. This place is so much better than Bull's Eye, I'm glad they aren't the only show in town anymore. However, Metro is pricier ($18/hour for nonmembers) and unlike I remember Bull's Eye, Metro charges per person per hour, not just per lane per hour. This means that for two people to share a lane at Metro it costs $36, whereas at Bull's I remember it being $14/lane/hour. Metro does not allow you to draw from a holster, but many indoor ranges have the same policy. The only place I've been free to draw from holster and practice fully as I need to is the Arnold Pistol and Rifle Club down in Barnhart, MO off i-55. Furthermore, Metro demands that you buy and use their targets, not your own. I happen to have a ton of targets that I bought, to practice for qualifications, and I want to use them. Metro will not allow it, and they charge a dollar per target. Ridiculous! I removed a star for that. I had someone with me who wanted to watch, not shoot, and I was told that to join me in the firing area, the person would have to pay $18 "for insurance reasons." I'm writing this review so that when you go, there will be no surprises--- especially since Metro's website sucks butt and is less than informative. My review will be short and extended when I experience more services provided by dealer. I needed a new holster for my Derringer, my last one broke loose and took itself and my gun into a very icky place. A TMI moment here. So, I need a new holster. For carrying inside like I do, against the skin, they only had 2 brands. The one I purchased 7 months ago and another brand. Not purchasing mine again and the other did not look as if the clip was strong, my baby is butt heavy and may be why my last one gave way. The other holster that would work with my piece was a clip on outer type, it would imprint and would nullify having a conceal and carry. It was a nice solid leather holster, but does not fit my need. As they are a sister store to the Belleville Shooting Range, I am sure they will get more product in. They had a couple nice pepper spray's I liked, but not in the market for at this time. It is a very roomy building where they have the guns and supplies. Not much in the way of merchandise, but the store only opened just over a month ago, so they may still be testing out what they need. There is a shooting range in the basement. I have yet to use it, so no review given. The staff is uber friendly. Even though I was unable to find what I wanted, the sales rep did try. I'll definitely return. I have been handling firearms professionally since 2008 from my time in the military to my time in the security industry. I am proficient in the proper handling of firearms. I recently had a female friend of mine who was interested in learning how to shoot a gun for the first time. So we picked a day to go and decided to go to metro since it was closer to her. I had never shot here before. My first impression of the range was nothing out of the ordinary as I have frequently shot at other indoor ranges around the city. As we were waiting in line it was clear that the associate working behind the counter took an issue with us. Which was strange when the guy in line in front of us dropped his rifle on the ground, then flagged half the room when he picked it up, he didn't say a word to him about weapons safety. When it was finally our turn to check in this guy talked to us like we were children. Came up with a few extra safety rules for us, keep in mind he did not go over safety rules with the two guys ahead of us, which included no talking and if we touched the weapon other than shooting it we were out of there. When I asked to buy ammo he told me I could only buy one box of 9mm while I was there. I guess they don't like making money because I had intended on spending quite a bit to give my friend a good first time experience. He was totally rude and made it a point to explain to me everything he was going to make me pay for if we couldn't hit our target. At this point I wanted to just walk out but we were already there. Once we got on the range I showed her the weapon was empty and began explaining weapon safety rules and proper handling. In comes this guy and he starts yelling at us for "talking." I tried calmly explaining to this guy that she was new to this and she needed to understand proper handling and safety before we start shooting. His response was "every weapon is loaded I told you no talking." Yea, treat every weapon as if it were loaded we got that. There was no mishandling of the weapon at any point in time she was simply holding it and pointing it down range like I had instructed her to do. By this point I was so frustrated with how he had just treated us and she was so nervous about him coming back in, for whatever reason he could think of next, so I decided to pack up and leave. Now the main point of this story I want to make apparent, the two guys in line ahead of us who dropped their weapon on the ground were white. I myself am a white man, my female friend was black. This to me was clearly a racial bias towards us. When I took this complaint to the management staff they offered an apology and a free day to come up and shoot which we declined. If you're new to shooting or you are a responsible gun owner, do not shoot here. You will not be treated with respect. Also not veteran friendly. read more

I bought a gun the other day from the Rock Rd location. The staff was very helpful in informing me of the different guns and what they like about each different type. They are a little more expensive than other places but if you buy a gun you get a free membership for a year which makes it worthwhile. The extra $25 for the gun was worth the $199 year membership for free. The range is nice, a little bit on the expensive side for non-members. If you do a gun rental with a lane and shoot one box of 9mm it will be around $45. Other than that it is a great store, they had a great selection even though everywhere else is completely out of guns right now. read more

It was the first time I ever shot a gun, celebrating a milestone birthday. The instructor was awesome, very thorough and answered all of my silly, uneducated questions. He really took his time and made sure I understood everything and was doing it correctly. I had a blast and am looking forward to getting back there to improve my skills and try different types of guns to see what is the best one for me personally. My best friend and I was looking for new places to shot our guns. We stop by Metro and I ask the guy upstairs what is it I cannot shot here he answer with a joke not me. I pushed on and asked about shotgun shells his response - only lead and slug. I ask about shooting Ar-15 he said no problem. Okay fine was my response we drive back to city got our gear and went back. But downstairs was a different world I had all brass and lead .223 it wasn't good enough over 300 round good ammo they told me i could not use my ammo but I can buy theirs to shot in my gun. So I put up the AR-15 and told them to keep their ammo. Then when it came to my Mossberg Shockwave 20 ga they had a problem with that also - they claim it didn't have a shoulder stock so I could no shot it. These guys need to get up to current speed of the fire arms that are on the market - the Mossberg Sockwave a 26" firearm and has a legal stock birdshead grib the firearm is legal with the ATF. Then they told me I could not use my own targets which were 12"x17" splatter paper targets. I told they I'm not shooting here and left. We went over to a range near Mills Mall and was welcome with no problems I did not take the Mossberg shockwave in because it was too cold to shot outdoors. If you're in the market to buy a gun of any sort firearm or looking for a knowledgeable and friendly range that makes you feel comfortable and safe, while also allowing you to train practically...... then this is definitely not the place to go. Employees who have a very high and mighty attitude and a like it or leave type mentality. I really love to support my local gun shops and gun ranges but this I really love to support my local gun shops and gun ranges but this place will not get any of my money. They jack up the prices of their guns by nearly $200 of every other local place by forcing you to beg a yearly membership with a purchase. Seems downright criminal to me what if someone from out of the area wants to purchase a firearm?!? Sadly, usually being a huge supporter of such family run businesses it pains me to say steer clear of this place. It gives a bad name to local St Louis gun shops/ranges. If you're in the market to purchase a gun I'd recommend Mikes guns or Kevins guns which are both in the same general area and you'll save hundreds of dollars, and go shoot for the all day for twenty bucks ($5 per extra person) at the new facility The Range in West County it blows this place out of the water. read more

I don't know about the range but after trying to purchase a gun, the owner seems a bit crazy and not blue friendly. Make sure you talk with him before you make a purchase so you can decide for yourself. Most of the salesmen were good. A couple of nut jobs. For me, it's worth the drive to Top Gun to be treated with professionalism and respect. read more
