A bit pricey but the service is worth it. I went in there with lots of questions but they were very patient with me. The clerk (manager? mechanic?) Ricardo was very helpful in explaining the services and fees that were included in the charge. I originally went in for an oil change and general maintenance, but they realized my tires had been worn bald. There was also another issue but they explained it thoroughly so I could understand what was going on. They quoted the price for replacing all 4 tires. It was a bit steep but I was able to get a good discount since I have AAA. Service was very timely too. My car was in and out in one day. One hour for the oil change / maintenance appointment and they squeezed the tire replacement within 4 hours. After they did the oil change, maintenance, and tires, my car was running like new again. They were never pushy and treated me with respect and kindness. The only drawback is the tight squeeze for parking, so definitely make an appointment ahead of time. Highly recommended! read more

I am so disappointed. No. Disappointment isn't the word. I'm pissed. I bought my car here in October and November of 2018. I got over $2000.00 years work done. I trusted them to make necessary repairs. Monday I had to take my dog to have serious surgery all the way in Manassas. My car sputtered which caused me great concern because I was only about 15 minutes into an hour drive to the pet clinic. While my dog was in surgery I took it to a local mechanic because I didn't want any problems on my way home. After a $113 diagnostics test I was told the parts I'd just purchased in November were faulty. I called Liberty and I was told to bring it in. Tuesday on my way to Liberty my car shuts off. ON THE 395 FREEWAY! Yes. It. Shut. Off. Imagine my terror as cars were steadily moving past me. After less than a minute it started long enough for me to drive safely off of the freeway. I had the car towed in the evening and left the keys with the attendant. Yesterday (Wednesday) I get a call at 5:28 that my car is ready. I don't get there until 7:30 and the garage is closed. The current attendant gives me my keys and when I go to turn the car on, it doesn't start. I tell the attendant and he says, "I'm just an attendant, I don't work here"... I was livid. So rather than going home with my car keys and no I left the keys with the clerk and filled out another for. Today (Thursday) I call them around 1:30 to see the status of my car. Ricardo tells me that there was one car close to being finished in the next 10 minutes and that my car would be next. It is now 5:43 PM and Ricardo just called me to tell me my car didn't start because of the battery. And that he needed to order a new battery for me because they didn't have any more of the battery he needed for me. So they're kept my car a whole nother day for a battery...an absolute inconvenience and I believe a passive aggressive response to me holding them to their own warranty. Great local car repair shop! We always get our oil changes here, as well as other repairs, and consistently get great and efficient service at a reasonable price. Today I ran over a nail and my tire indicator light came on. I went to a repair shop closer to where I was, and they wouldn't even look at it, and told me I had to make an appointment. My car needed an ignition coil for cylinder six, because it was misfiring. I was going to go to the auto parts store to get the scanner, but it was raining. I was driving by their shop, called them, and they said they could scan it for free. When I got in they told me it'd be a half hour. I'm assuming it was going to be the extra time because their mechanic had stepped away, because there was no one working in the bay. They told me that they could scan it for free, but if they did more they would have to charge me for a diagnostic. I told them that before I was going to incur an expense that they needed to tell me first, and they said they would honor that. This much they did correctly. About 45-50 minutes later the mechanic came back. Then they called me back. They told me that (a) the wiring was all wrong, (b) that the misfire was coming from cylinder 6, (c) that to fix the one coil they would have to remove the intake manifold to get at it because it was at the back, and (d) that they have to change every coil or they will all go out, and that this was $1,662. I said that based on the value of the car (it's 19 years old) that I'd have to talk to my spouse and get back to them. They threw the car together in a hurry to get me out of there, pissed, and broke the plastic cover that covers the parts. They didn't tell me that they broke it, but they did. I talked to another mechanic, who I hired to get the job done. He told me (a) that cylinder 6 is in front, (b) that we can try just changing the one coil, but that it would be better to change all the front ones along with the plugs if money wasn't an issue, (c) not to drive the car because the misfire can cause raw gas to go into the catalytic converter, and (d) since I was only 15 minutes away that if we could wait for him to come after dinner he'd make a house call. He charged under $500 to do three coils and three plugs. His part prices were lower, he charged $100 to go get the parts and make a house call, and we were good to go. To be fair, if we change the back set, it's going to require more time and we'll have to pay him, but he didn't try to oversell us or lie to us like Metro Motors did. Today I called back to Metro Motors because they never gave me a written estimate. I wanted to give this review more detail with actual prices. I got the same guy on the phone and asked if I could stop by for a written estimate. He said he'd have to charge me a diagnostic fee in order to give me a written estimate. He then said he'd have to call me back in "five minutes." He never returned the call. If you want to get ripped off, if you have more money than sense, and if you want to wonder if you're being lied to, then sure, use this vendor. I never will. read more

I used to be impressed with this location, but I won't be coming here anymore. PL did an engine diagnostic on my vehicle and told me that I needed a coolant flush, and a few parts replaced. I literally had my coolant flushed and replaced the day before at another garage. Clearly, it was topped off. I feel like it was shady that they included this in the diagnostic. Honestly, I feel like it was trying to get me to pay for additional services. I was also told my vehicle would be done by 5p and I would get a call letting me know when to come and pick it up. At 445p I still hadn't heard anything.. I called and they told me it would be done within the hour. When I asked what time the garage closed, they said the 'cashier' was open 24 hours. Ok... that didn't answer my question. Looking up their office hours myself, they close at 5p. What if I have questions about the work being done? And where's the tech who's going to talk me through what was done, etc. when I checked out? Also, where's the courtesy call that my vehicle was going to be done later than when they told me? I work nearby, and after a quick lunch out, I noticed my rear tire was almost completely flat. Upon further inspection, I found a large nail (turned out to actually be a screw) in my tire. Before I can even panic, both of my coworkers tell me there's no need to worry, "Just take it to Liberty" they told me. It turned out that both of them had car issues while at work - one, a flat tire like mine, the other, something with the engine (I think) - and the folks at Liberty were able to help them get back on the road within moments. I drove straight there, and spoke with Ricardo (the MANager) and he told me to pull it up behind one of the occupied stalls and immediately got Mohammed (pretty sure that's his name) to work on it - btw, this day it was raining, and Mohammed did all the work while getting soaked. He had it patched up in literally a few minutes, and I was back to work. HUGE thank you to Ricardo & Mohammed for going above and beyond here. Not only did I make it back to work in time for an after lunch meeting (wouldn't have minded if I missed it, tbh), but I was able to pick up my son from daycare, and just carry on with life with working tires. When people do right by me, I like to do right by them. Hence this review. In general, I've long held a favorable view of this place. On more than one occasion these guys have hooked me up for little to nothing, and when I wasn't expecting it. From the owner himself to management to the mechanics. Such things stick with people going forward. Certainly does with me. Here's the latest (special nod to Ricardo Gonzalez, the service manager): I needed my headlights changed. One was dead, the other fine. But I figured I'd replace them both as I wanted to upgrade from the OEM halogen bulbs to LEDs. So I bought two LED low beam headlights. I then first spoke to the local Toyota dealership which told me it'd cost me $60 per bulb plus tax to install. So $120+ for cost of labor is what I'd be looking at. I thought myself, "Well that is some funny bullsh*t." All for screwing in a couple light bulbs. I've changed headlights on cars myself and, as you'd expect, there's little to it so long as the manufacturer didn't go out of its way in the design to make it difficult to access. Some do it seems. Now, although the headlights on my car (4Runner) were accessible, it still proved to be somewhat of a challenge. Or perhaps I was just short on patience. Nevertheless, while filling up on gas, I casually asked Ricardo how much it'd cost to install the two headlights. What'd he do? He told me to pull the car up to take a look under the hood. He then proceeded to install both at no cost. The guy's genuine and a class act. Moral of the story: Next time you're considering where to take your car for maintenance or whatever, consider these people. True blue. read more

I went in to get my rear valve cover gasket replaced. It turns out the oil leak was coming from a different seal, the PVC cover gasket I believe. Anyway, the original price was around $700+ to replace the rear valve cover gasket. When they realized it was the VVC cover gasket it went up to $850 or so. I wasn't sure why it increased because I believe it requires the same amount of work as you have to remove the exact same things to replace either gasket. Basically a 2 for 1 type of labor. Moving on, Ricardo provided great customer service and even offered a discount. I dropped the car off at 8:30am and I waited until 5:00pm to give them a call back to see if my car was ready. I was a little disappointed to know that my car was ready and I didn't get a call back. I pay for my car and walk around the block to retrieve it. There isn't enough space on that corner where the shop is located so I understand, parking is limited. I open up the trunk to see if there is any leak and inspect the work. I was surprised to see a glue like sealant coated around the PVC gasket. I hate to see that type of work because it looks cheap and makes me a bit suspicious. Did they actually replace the gaskets? Or provided a band-aid for the price of the actual labor? I was charged for "intake" which is a bit confusion because I don't know what that means, am I being charged for a new intake? Is it the labor (probably not)? I tried looking around for signs of actual work and my findings were inconclusive. With all this said, I am not sure I would go to them again. Maybe during an extreme emergency and I would have to see the work being done. I am suspicious of their work but I can't say that they cut corners with 100% certainty. On a positive note, they provided a quick estimate and we're ready to do a same-day service which is what I needed since I needed my car the next day. Customer service was good as well. If I could give 2.5 stars I would so I'll give with a low 3 stars. read more

Pros: I love the proximity of this gas station / repair shop since it's right on Columbia Pike, near many of the apartment buildings and bus stops. You can drop off your car and then walk back to your apartment or eat at the restaurants nearby. They also recently renovated the place (or changed ownership, I have been seeing new people at the front desk and haven't seen Ricardo in a while), and the interior is new and more spacious than before. The customer service is good. I've been left hanging a lot when I first enter the building and I have to advocate for myself, but when problems were discovered with my car they were very helpful with providing details on what was wrong and writing it down so I could knowledgably ask for a second opinion. They also were reasonable about what repairs could wait, and what needed to be looked at immediately. Cons: Lack of space to park your car. The gas pumps are directly in front of the stations, so a lot of times you can't get into the parking lot to drop off your car. Many times, you need to play Jenga with your car to squeeze in. When the mechanics are done your car, they don't bring your car up front; instead, they tell you it's down the street somewhere and I have definitely walked all the down the block and around the corner with my car keys in the air trying to locate my car via the "beep" locking alarm. Kind of a bummer to play "where's waldo?" like that. I took my car to get my Safety and Emissions inspection renewed during the summer of 2020, and they only did one of them (I can't remember which, maybe just Safety?). They called me to let me know my car was ready and when I asked to confirm if both had been done (who just gets one done? DMV requires both!), I found out that only one had been performed. Luckily, I didn't waste a trip to the actual station, but I did have to wait another hour or two. Their prices are very expensive! They raised their prices for an oil change. In 2018, it was $80. My last oil change during COVID was $90+. I got a referral from some friends who said that was pretty high for a simple task and so I went into DC and instead paid only $60. They also quoted me as wanting $500+ to fix a leaking axle boot. Again, I went back to the same mechanic in DC and they fixed it for $350. As nice as Metro Motor is for their ease of location, the price point is too high for me. I would recommend it for people who don't have alternative means of transportation and need a good shop within walking distance. read more

I wish I could give more than 5 stars - feeling compelled to re-review Ricardo and his team. After being quoted, at a local Ford dealership, over $300 to replace an under-car shield and being told that there was some mysterious electrical problem causing my brake light to not work, I spoke with Ricardo who said they could replace the undercar shield for free if I provided the part. Of course, I took that opportunity. I left my car the night before and filled out the form he had given me to give information about the service I was requesting. The shop was slammed during the day and happened to be short on staff due to one employee's family emergency (that is to say - I think it was an extenuating circumstance that day), so it took until the afternoon for him to get to my car, but he replaced the undercar shield I'd brought in and discovered my "mysterious electrical problem" was merely a dead brake light, which he replaced for only the cost of the light itself. His honest service and charitable work saved me over $300 and my car is as good as new. If you are questioning whether to go to him for your service - stop questioning and go! I am a very nervous car owner and will go to him for all of my future needs. read more

The reviews definitely do not lie with this one. Woke up one morning and my car didn't start. I had a couple hours to spare before work. I live right next door to this place so called and asked if I called my insurance to come jump start it, if they'd have time to look at it. Ricardo offered to have someone from the shop walk over and jump start my car and check out what was wrong with it while I was at work! I got a call about 2 hours later saying it was the battery. Another couple hours after that they had replaced it. For not having made an appointment, the turn around time was amazing. I went to go pick up my car and they had dropped it off back at my apartment complex for me! I don't leave reviews but this place has earned it. They are an old school, honest, and fantastic shop. This spot is close by my house but if I lived across town I would make the trek. I've been asked by a lot of people that commute to the Pentagon and other spots around arlington where to take their cars, this is the spot. It's right on the pike so there are plenty of bus lines that go straight to the Pentagon. The guys that work there are exceptionally good at what they do and the manager, Ricardo, is on point and communicates difficult issues that the average Joe can understand. This review is long overdue. I've been living on Columbia Pike for over 5 years now, which is lovely to call home, but it's even more amazing to have Pentagon Liberty Gas Station two blocks from my apartment. I am your typical girl, no car enthusiast once so ever. Before moving out of Fairfax and living with my parents my father usually took care of my car needs. It's not until now I like to call them "mini panic attacks" when you turn your car on and get the "check engine" signal when I know something is wrong. I get dressed quickly, buzz Liberty and usually as frantic as I sound on the phone the other side is a very cam gentleman just stating "Bring it in and we'll take a look, and take care of it." Haddi owns Liberty and is practically a second father to me, but the man behind all the magic is Riccardo Gonzalez. I don't know how this man puts up with me but he does. Riccardo is a renaissance man when it comes with dealing all types of cars. I've seen him working on your typical beater cars keeping them running all the way to your high-end models including BMW, Mercedes, and Audi. I myself have a BMW and I tell you I'd trust him then any other BMW dealership to work on my car any day. Not to mention that they charge you way more, and Liberty is super affordable. I'm still in college working full time and taking my car to them does not break my bank. Now to let you guys all know what type of work has been done to my car to really validate all the work and effort because this review is not to just give one, it's because this establishment (and Riccardo) deserve one. Over the years I've had multiple oil changes, state inspections, vehicle emissions, changing out my tires and rotations, had ignition coils replaced, fixed the tube that extracted the air out of my gas chamber, replaced light bulbs, fixed turn signals, and also completely replaced my entire headlight assembly for both my left and right sides. So with all this said and done, I can't help but refer Pentagon Liberty Gas Station and associate Ricardo to work and repair any of your car needs. They are literally the sweetest, most genuine, tell you how it is people in the car industry and that is what makes me keep coming back to them... Speaking of which apparently my break fluid is low so I'm going to have to see them after I write this! I'm telling you, my car never quits, and neither do they! read more
