There is something very wrong with the air conditioning system at this hotel. The first room I…read morewalked into, I was hit by blazing heat and immediately called the front desk and had to change rooms because the meter was not working (room 411). The room should not even be in service for gas. Secondly, I was moved to room 509 which did not have the stifling heat factor, but the air conditioning still was not satisfactory. As a result, they had to bring me a fan. Needless to say, my sleep was interrupted throughout the nights due to the Warren of the room. The manager was very kind and provided me with one complementary cocktail at the bar for the inconvenience. In addition, when housekeeping came to clean my room, they were removed the wash face cloths and did not replace them. I called down to the front desk to see if someone could bring me a couple up, and the employee told me that I could either come downstairs and get them or that housekeeping would be open again in the morning. I told him that I was undressed and could not come down. He then brought up two hand towels, and when I told him that I needed face cloths, he told me that was all they had. Needless to say, I had to take a shower with a massive hand towel. The next day, upon returning to my room, housekeeping had not left face cloths again. I had to go downstairs and get them. I don't know what the issue is at this hotel with that. Nonetheless, there is a mini refrigerator in the rooms, my new room was 509, but they do not keep items cool at all. Therefore, if you go and get ice from the bar area. (says there are no icemakers on any floors in this hotel), there is no way to keep it frozen. Also, their elevators are extremely small and narrow, and don't work all the time. If you have more than three people or two people with luggage, that is all that will fit in them, and they are very slow and only work some of the times. Furthermore, I requested a late check out and was told that noon was the latest they could do without charging me an additional fee. I would've thought that given everything that went wrong with my stay, they would've accommodated my 1pm check-out request, but they did not. On a positive note, the hotel is in a great location and there is tons to do in the area. My colleague parked car. They are so be aware that there is no in and out privileges. Once you park, your car must remain parked, or you will be charged again. This doesn't make very much sense to me. I believe there are other parking structures in the area that are cheaper and more flexible so you might want to check. Needless to say, when I return to my office in the area, I will definitely plan to stay elsewhere. I need to sleep comfortably, have a cool room, and expect great customer service.

In the grounds is a 'Beefeater' Inn - the Bridge Barn. It is a very old building, complete with old floorboards and wooden beams and this is where you take breakfast in the upstairs dining room. We also had an evening meal here. They specialize in chargrilled food- steaks etc but there was a decent choice and I had salmon and it was pretty good. The downstairs bar seemed popular with locals on Saturday night. Thought it was good value at about £63 for a room.

It's quite a large Travelodge, and on my visit they were in the process of replacing all the beds, so expect a more comfortable sleep in future. Room temperature was OK, and although I was on the street side it was nice and quiet. The car park is large and free to park (unlike some Travelodges). This did lead to problems as it has no barriers and seems to be utilised by office workers during the day, so it can be difficult to find a space.

One of our party is low carb so the chef very kindly wrapped her sandwich fillings in lettuce and she said it was delicious. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff at Gorse Hill. I had tea at Claridges once. It was wonderful but very expensive and Gorse Hill Hotel tea was just as good if not better. Really good price. I cannot say enough good things about our afternoon tea. The massage was quite nice, not very deep, but she did concentrate on my neck and shoulders as I asked, and I left feeling relaxed. We then went on to try all the other "facilities". There was a small sauna in the ladies' locker room that was good, but a bit busy, and the only other thing we could find was a hot tub outside on a balcony, overlooking the race track. We braved the frankly horrid weather and got into the hot tub. We could not get it started - neither could the staff when we finally tracked them down. So basically we were sitting in a warm bath, in the rain, in full view of a stag party racing around the Mercades driving track. It just didn't quite work for me. The afternoon tea was perfectly nice - it just felt a little odd being the only ones there for it and as we were tucked out of sight round the corner, I had to track someone down to ask for more hot water for the tea. I enjoyed it and I might come back to the hotel for a meal or drinks if the opportunity arose, but i probably wouldn't bother with their spa facilities again.

The food was all fab with the homemade scones to die for!! Really relaxing afternoon with a lounge in the outdoor hot tub (gorge and warm making the cool March breeze feel really nice).
