"It is an odd question, and as we do not shop at either one of those places ourselves it's a bit hard to say whether we are affordable or not. Do you drive a BMW or a 1980's era Mazda? Went in to get something small done for a family member the other day. I was impressed enough to return the same day with several pieces. One prized print of mine is very large and made of very thick paper and I was walked through what was needed to work with that kind of thing. Everything came out beautifully. I approach the framing pro's the same way as when I get a haircut or a tattoo. "Make it look good" I tell them. No need to worry at Metro. Open and honest about pricing and had options laid out and picked in just a few minutes. Good listeners but also knew when to tell me what would work and what wouldn't. I like that kind of confidence when I'm about to spend a good chunk of change. They even said they don't bother with less than archival glass. Why would you? The pain of paying for a top notch frame job is only temporary. I have been to a bad frame store and they have butchered things for me. The Hobby Lobby / Michael's comparison seen in previous reviews is absurd. Why even ask? You want a pro taking care of something you're willing to have framed or someone who was hired last week on their summer vacation? The implied snobbery of the store is on the reviewer I would say. Supporting local business is really the only option for quality you have with this kind of thing. It's an art and a craft. If you are concerned with their abilities, stop by and I am sure they would be willing to walk you through the process and show you some of their excellent work. read more

I loved my design experience yesterday. They really have their act together. They've added a big sneeze guard and they both were wearing masks. It was really easy to choose great designs for my national park posters. They have mirrors over their sales counters that really help you see the choices. Great job with social distancing. I love this place. I have all of my buisness pictures framed here. They do cost a little more than I would like to spend but the end result is more than worth it and that is why I go back time and time again. They go over every detail and make sure that is exactly what you want and even show me different things every time to make it better than I could have imagined. They messed up one of my pictures and called me right away to tell me, then reprinted it and had it done within the week. They NEVER disappoint on the customer service. read more

We discovered metro on an art walk. That led to a bunch of really cool Chris Vance pieces. Subsequently my wife and I have had half a dozen pieces framed by Melanie and Emily. The thought and creativity that they have put into every piece is exceptional!. The last piece that Melanie framed for is was a portrait of our son who had passed away. I bought a nice water color of orchids, which was quite pretty, swayed by the deepest indigo I've ever seen. The artist, Dennis Pendleton, exuded pride explaining how he achieved the coloring. I took it to Metro and discussed with Melanie, the owner, how I loved the effect but was not caught up in the painting. She started pulling out frames and hit a combination I instantly liked. Basically double framing with a floating mount; I had never heard of this, and it was of course expensive. She showed me examples they had done, and I said to do it. When I picked it up I was stunned by the beauty. A painting I liked had been transformed into a remarkable piece. I brought Dennis over to see it in our house, then we went over to Metro. He told them it might be the best framing of his work ever done--he's made his living as an artist for 45 years, so that's significant. This was October 2013; I've been back regularly, and have bought a couple prints (etchings) from their gallery. They have state of the art equipment, Melanie has decades in the business, Emily is the one who's opinion I most value. They can frame anything, with great imagination. read more

This is an overpriced frame shop and art gallery that is better suited to the upscale Cherry Creek North neighborhood than the reasonably-priced shops/restaurants of the "fun and funky Berkeley neighborhood." While the quality of work was fine, the three stars is for unnecessary upselling and the resulting exceptionally-overpriced service. If standing around looking at art and paying way too much makes you feel important, then have at it. I'll look elsewhere for my next framing job. Note: the older gentleman and young woman who were setting up the art gallery when I picked up my order were very nice and seemed like they would have cared more about the customer and what was initially asked for. As it was, the woman who took my order was only interested in pushing my order price as high as she could get it. read more

I had a 49" x 49" picture that needed to be re-framed. My dilemma: I couldn't fit it in my car to bring it to a frame shop.
