I recently met some friends at the Metro Diner for breakfast. As we entered we were greeted by a very friendly staff. The diner vibe was spot on. At 8 am, I was surprised to see the restaurant 50% full. Once seated, we started our breakfast with the Avocado Toast as an appetizer. Excellent flavor on a very healthy appearing bread. For breakfast I had the Huevos Rancheros -pictured here. This was a very generous portion of food and had some wonderful flavors going on. The only thing that I didn't like was that there was some sort of underlying taste that I couldn't quite put my finger on but I do believe that it was the less expensive, highly processed cheese. Others ordered the meat lovers omelette packed with meat and again, a very generous portion and the freshly made corn beef hash. They commented that they really enjoyed their food. In town on vacation. Came in for a quick lunch. I had the fried chicken, REAL mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans and a biscuit. Side of grits. Gotta say, everything was excellent!! This by far is my go to diner. It's very affordable and the service is incredibly fast. I've been here several times and I always try to order something different. The food is delicious. I've had the Chicken and waffles, Fish and chips, classic breakfast and I've yet to be disappointed. Depending on the time you get there it could seem very busy, but the turn around is pretty quick. It's a typical diner with an open kitchen so it could get a little loud but not too bad. You're still able to have a conversation with your table. read more

5 stars for our waitress Tanisha! She greeted us with a bright smile and treated us kindly throughout our time here. As we were sitting at our table we noticed the fan was blowing too much cool air our way. I kindly asked the hostess if she could turn off the fan. She stated she could not turn off the fan but instead could move us to another table without a fan above us. We agreed... Although we were grateful, she did not communicate this to our waitress nor the other waitress who was servicing the new table. The new waitress walked over with disgust in her eyes and irritable tone asking us why we were sitting there. We kindly explained and she walked off with an attitude. We then explained what had occurred to Tanisha who was very kind and understanding. The food presentation was just okay. We ordered chicken Benedict and croissant sandwich. It was average, nothing to brag about. Overall the experience was just okay. Communication is lacking between hostess and wait staff. The second waitress was rude and that put a damper on the visit. We are traveling here from out of state and noticed that customer service is lacking across Tampa. Most places we go people seem angry for no reason at all... :-( read more

I went for the infamous chicken & waffles. They are infamous because they are served with a delicious strawberry butter. The server was great and timely. The food did take 20 minutes, but that's because it was made fresh. My only complaint would be that many of tables were dirty when I arrived and I was asked to choose a table. It took 4 tables for me to pass before I saw one that was clean and there was only one other customer in there when I arrived. Outside of being a little more quickly to clean tables the food is always good. read more

What a start to the day! Beginning with the customer service, Metro was really great. We had a semi large party, but we were seated fairly quickly just after the lunch rush. No frills here at Metro, just friendly service and amazing fried chicken and waffles every time. My go-to is half an order of chicken and waffles with dark meat. The fluffy waffle with strawberry butter complement the perfectly, crispy and well seasoned chicken. Some friends of ours were visiting from out of town and we offered to take them from their hotel to the airport. We had enough time to enjoy a leisurely breakfast. Since I had eaten at the Metro Diner in Saint Petersburg Florida before, I was confident that we'd have a wonderful meal in Tampa as well. We were not disappointed! I have eaten at Metro Diner several times and was pleased. Not this time. I had a cheese steak sandwich and fries. Sandwich was room temperature. Fries were cooked ahead of time and put in a steel pan, waiting to be served. That is the kiss of death for french fries. They were limp and elderly. The wait staff was nice, service a little slow. I know several real good diners in Tampa. Next time I will go elsewhere. read more

Parking is No Bueno, it's located in a plaza, that must be busy, because at this point, you need to park as soon as you find a spot, either close or far & walk if you must. It's pretty small inside, but I think it's enough room, to sit a big party, if you happen to visit with family & friends. Lots to chose from on the menu, breakfast & lunch, so I guess depending on what your feeling like, order to your hearts content, than enjoy the company & the food. Our waiter, Connor, was attentive and friendly. Place is crowded and loud. Difficult to park. My husband got the biscuit and gravy and liked it. I got the San Francisco eggs Benedict. Do not get it. I got to check out this spot while in Tampa on vacation. It's funny because we have Metro Diners in Charlotte. We came her after an early morning of traveling and we were starving! I ordered the chicken and waffles just to get to the point lol. So hungry. This dish was massive! When our server brought my plate I asked him if anyone ever finishes this?! He said sometimes, yea. I couldn't believe it. There was like an entire half of fried chicken on my plate and huge waffles. I liked this dish, it could do with just a smidge more flavor though. I did not finish this meal but I did enjoy it! I love that they served mimosas too. I really do want to check out another Metro Diner in Charlotte and try more items. Great place to catch up with a friend. I got the Bacon Avocado Scramble, but since I don't eat bacon I substituted it out with Turkey links. I found the hollandaise sauce to be a bit much and next time should ask for it on the side. Otherwise, it was delicious. I love the hash browns and the hollandaise sauce is necessary to give it some oomph. There wasn't a lot of avocados, but the rest of the ingredients were fantastic. I would get this again. There weren't a lot of people here at 9 a.m. on a Thursday, but the parking lot was still pretty full. Our waitress was great at the beginning, but when we wanted to pay our check she disappeared for a while. We were lucky we weren't in a rush. Otherwise, when we did see her she was great. This place has a total diner feel, but is clean and everyone is friendly. I would definitely come here to meet up with a friend and grab a bite to eat. read more

I came here a few days ago for lunch with my 2 year old. We were warmly greeted and seated pretty promptly. I ordered his eggs, bacon and silver dollar pancakes for his lunch. I mean good for him because he never has bfast for lunch. He ate the 1 scrambled egg and the 3 silver dollar pancakes! Victory! For myself I did the Steak and Egg Scramble which was a risk because sometimes that Steak can be over cooked. In this instance it wasn't but the Hollandaise sauce was toooooo much. If I were to get this again, I'd tell them to take it easy or just get it on the side. The service was just ok. The only time the server came around was to ask me if I wanted another Coke Zero while I was taking my 2 year old to the bathroom. Read the room my man! Finally had the opportunity to dine at Metro Diner and my family had a great experience. It's pretty busy between 11am and 2pm. We did wait for 15 mins before being seated. It's a small diner but can still accommodate groups. The fan fave on the menu is the chicken and waffles. You have an option of bone-in and boneless. You get half a chicken with the meal! Personally, the bone-in was delicious, crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The included strawberry butter was an added bonus.
