We went as a group of 6, and booked our class a few months prior to arriving. We met the instructor at our designated time, and took a quick 1 minute walk down to a restaurant. The restaurant is rented by Devour to host the class during its non-operating hours. There were two instructors. One of which was Fernanda (sp?) There were about 16 people total in our class, everyone was broken up into small tables of 4. All the other guests were very friendly. **The Instructors They were phenomenal! Ive taken several different cooking class and this was by far the best teachers ive ever had. They were both hilarious and so knowledgable on food! They gave us general cooking tips and what ingredients to look for when recreating dishes at home. They also taught us so much about food in Italy, such as what ingrediners are best to try in different regions and things to look for/avoid when trying gelato. They even shared a long categorized list of recommended places after class that was so helpful to us for the rest of the trip. **The Food They started the class by providing us glasses of wine and suppli from a local restaurant. We made fresh fettuccine and the instuctor (with the help of some students) made a big pan of Amartiana sauce. They also made fresh cantaloupe gelato for us. Everything was phenomenal. Even though the pasta was made by us amateurs it was up there in one of the best Amartcianas we had all trip!

Even better with a fantastic guide. She really knows the area and has a wonderful way of sharing its amazing history. The food samples were well thought out and very memorable. It covered Linari (marritozzo and cappucino), Dar Artenio (pizza), Pizzicheria da Fabio (Prosciutto), Silvia (clementines), Mordi & Vai (veal & artichoke sandwich), Checchino (rigatoni in oxtail ragu & wine), and Il Panificio Passi (wine biscuits). It's sleek, bright, spacious, and I think the remodeling is a respectful nod to its former use as the rooms do have an air of austerity to them. As I understand, it's a former convent, and nuns live above the ground floor. Guest rooms are all on the third level (Italian 2nd floor), but the numbering gets a little confusing in the elevator since it seems to follow the American convention while your keycard uses Italian numbering (so 1 is lobby not 0; 3 is rooms though your keycard says 200s). ACCESS// Walking here from the metro (either Bologna/S.Agnese) is about a 10 minute walk. The neighborhood seems to be where the embassies are. Entrance is via a locked gate. You buzz in every time (no problem since front desk is manned 24 hrs). You're also not allowed to take your keycard with you; you must hand it in every time you go out and ask for it when you return. STAY// There are only 22 rooms with a max 60 person capacity. So it's a very quiet stay. Although I saw families at breakfast, I never heard anyone when I was inside my room except for the door closing or water running in the room next to mine. Only noise you do hear is from the street, which can be pretty noisy. As for breakfast, I thought it was a decent spread, better than a simple continental as there were cold cuts, cheese, boiled eggs, and fruits in addition to cereal and pastries. In-room, there's a mini fridge but no microwave. Shower drain can also be slow. Because of its design, it's very easy to clog. Though they were quick to fix it when we told them we had a problem with ours. All the reviews I read online said staff were really friendly. We didn't get this treatment. We also don't look European. However, after daily greetings, front staff did go from being just polite to being friendly. The only one this didn't apply to was the head housekeeper, who always just stared at us in a disapproving way every time we walked by. No amount of buongiornos changed that. But I noticed she gave Italian tourists the same disapproving suspicious stare, so at least she was consistent. Another thing to note is that towels are changed only every 3 days, more frequently it's extra. However, rooms are still tidied every day so your bed will be made every time you come back and floors cleaned. I got way better value than I expected here, but I would hesitate to come back. For the same reasons that make this place a great stay, it can also make it a bit uncomfortable if you're sensitive to scrutiny.

We stayed in a single bedroom room with a bathroom. It was quite clean and the owners were very nice. The location was right in the center of everything and I couldn't have asked for a better spot. It isn't fancy by any means but a nice place to stay with included breakfast. I would stay here again!

Hotel Piccolo (little hotel) is located just a stones throw away from the Spanish Steps. I've stayed here a couple of times over the years and love the location and the personalized family friendly service from the staff. Although their cappuccinos had little to be desired, it's no sweat when you can take a morning stroll into any caffe and start your day right with an authentic Italian cappuccino (none of that Starbucks shit) and un bel corneto. The bathroom was a good size and the shower was great. The grocery store was close by and the elevator in the building worked. But the highlight was Valeria. She greeted us at the desk when we arrived, had a map, food suggestions, and a load of passion for the city of Rome. She even called us a taxi for the airport and he was fantastic too. We loved talking to Valeria and hope to be back some day!

An easy walk if you don't have too much luggage. There are 2 train station nearby as well. I liked its proximity to the Colosseo. The staff was friendly and the room was clean, although small (even by european standards). there's limited check in hours since the staff is only around from 8a-4p. Otherwise it was quiet and comfortable. The breakfast consists of coffee, pastries and a sandwich. I would recommend staying here.

The Spanish Steps are few blocks away from the hotel. Another highlight is that the hotel is an equal distance between the Vatican and Colosseum, which are on opposite sides of the city. They are also walking distance to a public airport shuttle stop, so instead of taking a pricey taxi, we were able to hop on the shuttle. CON's The room was really small. I shared the room with my travel buddy and we were very cramped. The shower was extremely small as well. At one point the shower overflowed and the water got everywhere. The complimentary breakfast was mediocre but it's hard to complain about something that is free.

This place treated us well during our 3 days in Roma. Tucked away in a residential neighborhood, it was a little off the beaten path, but close to metro and the River Tiber. I felt safe walking anytime of the day or night, and actually took quite a few night strolls. If you like walking, it's about a 10 minute walk to Castel Sant' Angelo and about a 30 minute walk to Vatican City. There were 3 of us so we had a room with a double bed and a bunk bed. I can't remember the exact theme (each room features a comic theme), but it was black & red. It was a spacious room and the bathroom was huge! Everything was clean and I was very comfortable. We didn't spend a lot of time indoors so I don't remember much about amenities, other than the free breakfast and free wifi. I loved the large figurines of Iron Man and Superman. Take a look at their website to see the awesome themes available. I emailed them to make my reservations. It's classified as a hostel on some sites, but don't let that scare you (and stop watching scary movies!). It's an awesome guesthouse!
