I don't normally post, but this tour was the highlight of an excellent trip to Rome. My daughter and I were seeking a food tour focused on local "Roman" food - when in Rome eat as the Romans. The Devour Tour delivered that and so much more. We wandered, ate, learned, and laughed through the neighborhood of Testaccio, an area outside the Roman Walls, but an important part of the city as it housed the slaughterhouse. The locations are off the normal tourist paths, so you are rewarded with an authentic taste of Testaccio.
One thing that surprised me, and I think was an excellent facet, was the emphasis on local multi-generational family-owned businesses, and in most instances, we met the owners. Quite frankly, we would have likely missed these spots if we tried to do this on our own, but they are on our go to list now!
From the Maritozzo and Coffee, through the gelato, we leisurely noshed our way through Testaccio - pizza Al taglio, local cheeses, an excellent local panino with Roman broccoli and roasted prosciutto cotto...and the walking keeps you hungry enough to enjoy the Roman pasta dishes, Cacio e pepe, Carbonara, and Amatriciana.
Our tour guide, Abbie, is a relocated American with excellent Italian - needed to converse with many of the owners.
Wear good shoes, a hearty appetite, and an open mind and you will be rewarded with a memorable eating and learning experience and great value for your time and money. I highly recommend this tour. read more
