We had a fantastic time on the Rome on a Golf Cart Semi-Private Tour with LivTours, guided by Chris. He was personable, clear in his explanations, and attentive to our needs throughout the tour. What made it especially memorable was how he connected with our kids--getting them excited about gelato was a fun touch that they still talk about! The golf cart was a lifesaver, making it easy to visit several sites that would have been impossible to reach with a 5-year-old and 2-year-old in tow. We even opted for the cart to pick us up from the hotel so it was seamless from beginning to end. The car seat for our youngest was clutch. Actually the ride was so soothing that our 2 year old fell asleep for part of the trip. Chris also introduced us to the Roman Orange Garden, a peaceful spot we'd never have found on our own. While many sites in Rome are walkable, this tour gave us the freedom to explore comfortably as a family, and we truly appreciated the balance of convenience and insight. If you are someone who love to do all the research ahead of time, then maybe this tour is too surface level for you. I would recommend a more targeted tour for the Coliseum or Vatican City. Otherwise, I'd highly recommend LivTours--and especially Chris--for families looking for an stress-free way to experience Rome. read more

(Night Time Vatican Tour) We really enjoyed the Vatican, but felt like our guide was rushing us while we were walking through. But the Vatican is big, so we assumed she wanted to show us other portions of the grounds. Our tour was supposed to go until 8 PM, but she ended things at 7 PM. She said we could walk back into the last wing of the museum to see things on our own but security would not allow us to walk back in. We spent seconds / maybe minutes, looking at whole sections of art. She left almost no time to stand and look at things, everything was "ok let's keep going". Although we still enjoyed things, we definitely left extremely disappointed given the cost of the experience. (We paid 318€ for two people to tour - 60€ was the cost of the tickets, so 258€ was the cost of the tour guide. read more

Warning for LIV Tours -- My family booked their Louvre Small Group Tour with Mona Lisa First Viewing and they did not show up. I called the number, and they said they had an "error" and our guide was not coming. This was a huge shock as I had confirmed the tour the week before and asked questions clarifying a few things with it. They left us standing in front of the museum waiting in the line for people with no tickets. I am frustrated and disappointed that this company operates in this way. I booked a tour for the Vatican, evidently clicked the nonrefundable one, I fell and had to have emergency eye surgery and am forbidden to fly. I called right away to cancel and that I have a medical excuse that my retina will detach if I fly, and they refused to refund the tickets. I cannot imagine spending our too days in Rome any other way. We would never have learned so much! On the second day we did the "Off the Beaten Path Catacombs Tour". We toured the Vatican, which included the various hallways on the way to the Sistene Chapel, then through the Raphael rooms, and on to St Peters Basillica. Luciana was so knowledgeable about every little detail, and gave us the backstories on the paintings and sculptures, plus gave us a long time alone to view the Sistene Chapel. First let me say that this company Liv Tours had the technical right to treat us the way they did. But, that does not make it morally right. Their actions clearly indicate they do not care about the customer. My wife became very ill and we were unable to attend a scheduled tour. I contacted customer support one day before the tour and requested it be rescheduled due to her illness. My request was denied and I was told i had no right to reschedule since i had purchased a non refundable tour which i acknowledge. But, i was not asking for a refund...i was making a reasonable request to reschedule due to the illness. And, providing sufficient advance notice. So buyer beware....yes this company has many good reviews which is why i selected it. But, they have no compassion or common sense...to accomodate an extenuating circumstance. I will not do business with companies like this. And offer my experience for you to consider when selecting a tour company. read more

Approx. one month from my travel date I received an email from them explaining that they were discontinuing a special element of the tour (this element was what made it unique from others). Excellent!!! We booked a transfer from FCO to our hotel, a private 3 day tour, and a transfer from Rome to Civitavecchia. We're a couple from Florida, one of us had been to Rome before. Both of us couldn't believe the great experience we had. It's as though we had friends that took days off to walk us around the city. My wife and I did a semi-private tour (party of 6) of the Vatican with AnnaLisa during the morning of 7-23-21. AnnaLisa spent over 4 hours with us, explaining the back stories of the artists, architects, sculptors, and Popes for St. Peter's Basilica, Sistine Chapel, and a number of the Vatican Museums. One needs a full week to go through it all, but we came away with a real appreciation of the history of the Church and the Vatican after our time with AnnaLisa. She knows the shortcuts to minimize waiting time and how adjust the tour when Vatican Officials change the rules or close of a section with no notice. When the tour was done, AnneLisa took the extra time to show us a great restaurant where locals eat. Finally, the owners were great at communicating with us and it is obvious that they have a love for travel, education, and history. LivItaly Tours also arranged a nice coffee and snack break (no cost) half-way through the tour. If there were a 5 Star+ category, AnnaLisa and LivItaly Tours definitely earned it! read more

Bottom line, I highly recommend it if you like informative tours like I do. We are a family of 4 plus my in-laws and I booked 3 different tours: the Colosseum evening tour, food tour and early Vatican entry tour, all excellent! I have visited the Colosseum many years ago in the daytime but the ambiance in the evening with the lights was just magnificent! Deborah was our tour guide. We started at Pizza Venezia and walked a short distance to see the ruins before entering the Colosseum. Debra was very friendly, informative and knowledgable throughout our tour. At first, I felt the price of the tour was a bit high but after finishing the tour, I feel it was a great value because we really got to see more than just the Colosseum itself. It was well worth it! The second day we took a food tour with Jill as our guide. We went to five different restaurants and sampled a variety of local foods. What made this tour special was that we sampled the most well known dish from each of the places and during our walks from one restaurant to the next, Jill gave us the history of the neighbourhood and why some dishes became a delicacy in Rome. The food and experience were all excellent! We had tried some restaurants on our own through yelp and trip adviser but many of the recommended places were very hit and miss, depending on what you order, so the food tour took all the guesswork out! The area where the food tour took place also had many sites to experience afterwards like the Trevi fountain and Spanish steps was just a short walking distance nearby. Our last day we toured the Vatican and was reunited with Deborah as our guide. Everything was better than we had imagined because Deborah was very knowledgeable and it just made our experience so memorable. The Vatican was huge and there's lots of walking, but my youngest 10 year old son just loved it! My wife and I booked the Vatican Early Access and Colosseum Underground Tour with LivItaly. The experience met and exceeded our expectations. I can't imagine there's a better way to get to know Rome in a single day. Highly recommend! We began the day at 7:20 meeting our tour guide Massimo at the Caffe Vaticano across the street from the Vatican Museum. He was very engaging and encouraged us to grab something quick in the cafe if we had not eaten. While we were eating a couple very nice pastries I saw Massimo run across the street to engage the Museum guards. (This was a recurring theme. I think Massimo knows every guard by name and this has a lot to do with the level of access we received. We consistently got into areas others did not and before anyone else.) Massimo returned to retrieve us (only six per group on this tour) and walked us over to be the first in line for the museum. Every room we entered was the same--first in--including the Sisteen Chapel where we spent about 45 minutes wandering around wherever we wanted with no interference. Massimo is extremely knowledgeable. Before we even entered the museum he was showing us pictures of the Sisteen Chapel and teaching us what to look for. Throughout the four hours he systematically walked us through the Vatican Museum, the Sisteen Chapel, Saint Peter's Basillica, and the Vatican grounds in the most efficient manner. After exiting the Vatican we were picked up by a driver and taken to Trevi Fountain and then the Pantheon before being dropped off for lunch across the street from the Colosseum. We were met at lunch by our afternoon tour guide Sergio. I thought sure he could never live up to Massimo but he was amazing as well. Sergio shared so many historic and architectural details and answered every question we asked. We thoroughly enjoyed our three hour tour of all three levels of the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, and the Roman Forum. The bottom line: This tour is not inexpensive but if you want a one day experience of historic Rome, it's worth every dollar you will spend. You will see more than any other tour and be led by very knowledgeable and professional guides. But, this is a long day with a lot of walking. Make sure you are up for it. read more

This review is for their early entrance Vatican tour. We also did a private Venice tour which was amazing. Unfortunately, the Rome experience was totally different. The experience on these tours are completely dependent on who you get for a guide. This morning we were assigned Annalisa. Our group included my wife, her mother (79) and myself. All of us are very mobile however my mother in law uses a walker which doubles as a wheelchair for longer distance. We discussed and disclosed to Angelo as he advised would be fine as long as she was good with stairs. Issue came as Annalisa was slyly but purposely trying to discourage and leave us stranded. If watching the setup unfold wasn't so obvious (my wife understands and speaks Italian) it would have been concerning. As we took a different path and Annalisa set up a meeting spot for us and purposely avoided/snuck by us 3 minutes later we had to laugh. The crescendo of the disastrous experience was being left stranded inside the Sistine Chapel and being told we wouldn't be allowed to accompany her to the Basilica but was more than welcome to walk back outside the walls and wait in 3 hour line with the general public. We group separated from there but thankfully a guide from a competing company (The Tour Guy) saw the events unfold and was able to guide me. Please be aware if you are older and use a walker or walking sticks Livitaly may not be the best choice......from reading reviews we weren't Livitaly's only victims. Would help if they just disclosed upfront that they don't cater to older or slower persons as we saw plenty of older persons with competing tour groups. When you have one day to spend in Rome and you want to see and do as many things as possible naturally you search the internet for a tour with great reviews, cross your fingers, and hope for the best! Well my friend and I totally lucked out when we found LivItaly with great reviews through Yelp and TripAdvisor; take it from a super user these sites rarely ever agree on the same star level. We opt for the 9 hour tour of Rome and despite walking about 10 miles (says my fitbit) through cobblestone, uphill and downhill it was THE BEST EXPERIENCE of my life! Luca Romano, our tour guide, had a wealth of knowledge that was unbelievable. I'm pretty sure my brain was exploding with the information I learned about all of our stops from the Vatican to St. Peters to the Trevi Fountain and beyond. There are many reviews that mention how this particular tour felt like it was rushed and all I have to say about that is there is NO POSSIBLE way you can see everything in a few days, never mind in a few hours. Without this tour, I would have a bunch of photos with no stories and no idea as to what I'm looking at. LivItaly is a little pricier than other tours BUT you're paying for an amazing experience! The tour groups are never more than 6 people and the idea of listening and asking your tour guide questions is way more substantial than being in a group of 20-35 people while listening to your tour guide through a headset. Giulia was great, she brought her iPad with her to explain what we would be seeing at each location. This way we know what to look for while on the tour. This was very helpful and appreciated because there are Someplace like, The Sistine Chapel where you are not allowed to talk inside. With Giulia showing us on her iPad beforehand, we knew what to look for. "Tour of Coliseum and Ancient Rome - April 2015." This was the best tour of my travels to Spain and Italy. Having gone on numerous excursions, with other companies prior to this one, I'd become something of an expert on tours. Liv Italy provided the best walking tour I've ever taken anywhere. Our small group of six was led by Luca Romano. If he ever wanted to become a University History professor, Luca is certainly qualified. He presented the information about the sites in such a way, that we were enthralled. He made the ancient history come alive. Because we could skip the line and the crowds, it almost felt like having the coliseum to ourselves. There was plenty of time for photos and simply soaking in the ancient atmosphere. The tour of the Palatine Hill was over the top! (Pun intended). The views were awesome (an overworked word, but very appropriate here). You have no doubt heard the stories of the massive crowds that tour there everyday. Rosella was like a secret agent, stealth-fully manuvering our small group in and out of the crowds, occasionally finding a cool breeze by an open window. She made the masses disappear, finding quiet space after quiet space to tell the story of this magnificent complex. If you book the Vatican...ask for Rosella, she was beyond terrific!! Two days later we were booked with Thomas, for a Colosseum & Fourm tour. For a moment. during a torrential morning rain, we thought we might be cancelled. Low and behold, there was Thomas, umbrella in hand and ready to go. Thomas led us through the ancient site, and again we felt somehow isolated from the crowds, which makes for a very pleasant visit. A well-versed historian, Thomas gets very high marks from us for delivering the huge amount of history in an understandable way. All in all, I would give LivItaly the very highest marks for ease of booking, selection of tours, efficiency and knowledge of guides and overall appeal-ability. If I could give a higher score I would. Stop looking for a tour company right now and contact LivItaly. 6 of us did Vatican Museum tour on a friend's recommendation, booked it through TripAdvisor. Our guide, Vivianne (not sure of spelling but she is originally from Denmark) was A+. Wonderful personality, extremely knowledgeable and very savvy in showing us through the museum and Sistine Chapel while minimizing our exposure to the teeming masses that throng after the doors open. It is not worth going to the Sistine Chapel any other way. After the doors open it's like Grand Central at rush hour. Well worth the price. read more
