If you are an internet user who needs very high reliability (such as for video and voice calls that do not drop or freeze) and expeditious repairs when the service does get wonky, then Mediacom is not for you. Every once in awhile (perhaps every few quarters) it seems that the internet goes from fast and reliable to unreliable. When it does become unreliable (such as when upload speeds go below 1mb for part of the day) Mediacom can waste catastrophic amounts of your time (days, weeks, months) calling on the phone, making you wait for an appointment to see if the problem is at your house, only after repeated issues admitting it might not be, and then still taking days or weeks or longer to go find the issue. Finally, in the latest iteration of this merry-go-round, I said "enough" and this week have paid far more money to a competing (microwave dish I guess) service offering far slower speeds, but perhaps better reliability and hopefully more immediate attention to service issues. I can't decide between 1 star and 2 stars. For much of the time over the years they have seemed ok, and have invested in higher speeds and have polite phone and in-person support, and all this would point to 3-5 stars. However, they have in the end not prioritized reliability nor expeditious repairs and in some ways 2 seems too generous. I guess I'll put it (for now) as an average.

In over 2 years we've only had 1 or 2 service interruptions and it was only for about 20 min. 1 time we found out it was our router that was the problem when we called their customer support. How great is it to talk to a local support person who knows what they're talking about! We stream on 2 devices at the same time flawlessly at all times of day. I can watch my shows while my husband streams a game. The quality doesn't fluctuate like our cable provider's internet did. We're glad there is an alternative option for good quality Internet service in Tucson.

But that is mainly because I could call and get a human being on the line to give me a summary of the issue and the estimated down time. People can PLAN when they have information. In this day of information/communication, there is no excuse not give info for people to plan around. This info could easily be placed on the automated answering service or website and updated often there. Instead I had to dig around using my phone and eventually found some info here. I understand that the issue today is widespread, but today's communication is hard to excuse.
