I cannot believe I have not reviewed this place yet. Yeah, pretty damn good cortado! I've stopped here 4 or 5 times over the past few months and it's always been very consistent and has tasted exactly the same and had a similar temperature. One could indeed say, they are methodical in their approach to coffee. It's a lovely space in a gorgeous square. You could sit in the contemporary, albeit on the smaller side, inside space or in the large and beautiful tables and benches outside. The front of the store has huge, bright windows, concrete floors, granite counters, neutral colors and overall it's super, super clean. I always feel great about coming in here and grabbing a cortado. The folks working always wear similar colors and wear uniform aprons. Some of them even rock sweet 'staches; part of me imagines they come to work with their arms hanging out of the window of their rat-rod, rockabilly cars! Although they more than likely drive antique, diesel Volkswagens running on used fryer oil. Either way, the 'staches are amazing and their high rise Chucks round out the hipster look to perfection. This place looks more Brooklyn than Greenville and they have the coffee to match. Go there now! read more

I would say this is definitely the best coffee shop in Greenville. It's pricey and snooty, but man it's good! They've been featured in several national publications, including Travel & Leisure. I've heard about it for a while and have heard my friends rave about their care for coffee and the roasting process. There's a lot written about that elsewhere, so I'll just share from my experience. I ordered an Ethiopian pour over (I believe it was Jimma) and it was very delicious and complex. The flavors were distinct and colorful, and you can tell the owners and the team pride themselves on offering unique roasts not found around the upstate of SC. And as far as environment - this place NAILS IT! Everything is thought-through - from the decor, furniture, glassware, and even the napkins. They didn't miss a beat, which quite honestly is so refreshing for the Greenville area! There aren't a whole lot of immersive experiences in the GVL area, so it's always great to go some place that really cares about creating an experience around their product(s). So if you're in the area and you are a coffee aficionado, this place is a MUST! I don't know why it took me so long to finally get over to this place, but I'm excited to go back again! read more

I had a decaf latte here this morning, and it was excellent. This is definitely a cut above Starbucks, with a quaint (in a good way) cafe, no beeping oven and overall classier. For example: real spoons given to you instead of regular wooden stirrers. Oddly, you can't get a cup of regular decaf coffee, so I can't make Methodical my regular coffee place on weekends, but when I need a more elegant cup of coffee, I'll gladly return here. read more

Over my winter break in Greenville, I explored the Downtown area and turned to Google for some good coffee places. I came across Methodical Coffee and the rest was history! Having lived in Seattle, dare I say the coffee capital of the world, I had high expectations and they were certainly met by the Columbia pour-over, with its sweet and aromatic notes. Everything about this place is amazing, from the décor to the staff to the treats to the, of course, drinks. They offer a variety of roasts for coffee and espresso that changes monthly, as well as seasonal treats to munch on. The place has an intimate feeling from the shop's simplicity with a record player playing soft music in the background and sincere staff. It is a perfect place to meet with people, study, or just to go alone and relax. It's at a central location downtown and well-lit and aesthetically pleasing. Though it takes some time for your order to be ready, and it's a tad price-y, it's well worth the wait and expense for what you get. Without a doubt, my favorite coffee shop downtown and in Greenville. Since its small though, be expecting a crowded shop at certain times of the day. read more

Amazing ambiance and even better coffee! Was recommended this place when I was visiting Greenville by a local and boy it did not disappoint! A sleek and well thought interior with sounds of Father John Misty playing out of the awesome vinyl player greeted me when I entered Methodical. You can tell that someone did their homework and everything was meticulously thought out when designing Methodical and it really shows. But lets not digress from the real star of the show, their coffee!!! I had a latte and it was some of the best coffee I have ever had. I found the prices to be very reasonable considering the shop and the amount of work that goes into curating such an awesome store and coffee collection. The staff at Methodical tie it all together and are just as knowledgable about all things coffee as they are friendly! I was greeted with a smile and good conversation from both Will and Amy while I was there. This one shop makes me want to move to Greenville! Will definitely be back the next time I am up this way! Decided to meet a local customer here and try it out as they have been reviewed and acclaimed nationally. They sit at the front corner, street side, of a larger building containing a bank. Here it's all about the coffee and it has to be good because they offer little else and the coffee is pricey. To be honest, I'd say I've had equal if not better coffee but this was still quite good. I did a pour over Colombian. It was as you'd expect, rich and earthy. They give you a cup and a "side car" with the extra coffee so you do get more than a cup. The staff was friendly and active. ***The bathroom is not in the coffee house but in the lobby of the building and a code is required so save yourself a double trip and ask for it before you go. *** The seating is not designed for large groups but some tables/chairs could be cobbled together. There is more seating upstairs. The building is light and clean. Overall I'd say the coffee was great but a little on the pricey side. read more

I think my wife is going to cry. She says it is the best cappuccino she has had in years. Don't get me wrong , we have our favorite coffee shops and we love them. But this coffee shop hands down beats them. I don't know if it's the bean, the roast, the barista or all three, but the flavor of the coffee was remarkable. I wanted to visit a local Greenville coffee shop while in town but there are a lot of options. Methodical kept coming up as having the best coffee so I gave it a try and it was worth it. First off, the location is great. It's in a nice, walkable area with shops and restaurants and lots of free street parking with 2 hour limits. The actual shop is beautifully designed with a burlap sign out front. I normally just get a regular cup of coffee but, during my Internet sleuthing, the Tres Leche was often mentioned. I asked the barista about the sweetness level and he offered to try to reduce the sweetness. It was perfect and well balanced! And they give a number to put on the table so I was able to sit down, get settled and they delivered the delicious drink right to me. They have some seating near the counter with more above in the loft. They also have a nice covered patio which I was able to enjoy despite the rain. I wish I lived closer but am so glad that I got to try Methodical! read more

My wife and I were visiting the area on a super hot summer day, but we were in the mood for a hot coffee. We consulted yelp and found this place. Methodical Coffee was an oasis for us! The space is so pleasing to the eyes. We ordered a latte and it was perfectly prepared in an old fashioned ceramic mug with a matching saucer. This place was really good in a nice secluded shopping area. They really know their coffee. The gentlemen explained everything to us and helped make our selection. I had the tres leches and my wife had the pumpkin. Both were extremely smooth and not bitter at all. The pumpkin didn't taste like powder or syrup flavor. He explained the used pumpkin butter. The drinks were really good. The big thing here is it can be intimidating if you are not outgoing because the menu is limited because they don't seem to want to make it complicated. And if you don't know anything it can be confusing, definitely a huge step from chain spots. The staff is friendly so don't worry if you don't know what beans make the best cup.
