I wish I can remember the guy name that helped me -he was young, around 5'9 and has a really nice smile. He was so nice to me when I arrived it made my $3.00 + espresso so worth every penny. He made me feel welcome and I appreciate that. The coffee was awesome and so smooth, that I didnt need to add sugar. The space and location is beautiful and clean. The reason for the four stars: There was a dark haired young lady that was not nearly as friendly and took away from the experience. I will return to try the pour over coffee. read more

One of my favorite coffee shops, anywhere I've been! I love Greenville and the location in Greenville is just the best. The plaza is a nice place to sit out with a coffee (unless it's 50 or below). The interior of Methodical is just superb, the high ceiling and mezzanine is great, the counter surface is very good and I love how they have a stash of vinyl they play. The shop is bright and thoughtfully-laided. Try at sit at the counter, best place to talk to staff and watch them make their unbelievable coffee. But what is really the best is the staff, they are all so friendly and chatty, talkative both about coffee and not-coffee-related-things. I went twice in one day (don't judge me) and talked to the 4 most friendliest staff you will ever meet- Amy, Chloe, Brandon and Will (the owner). They are all so passionate about what they do and take coffee seriously. My go-to drink is a 6oz Espresso with milk, basically a latte. The espresso, when they pull it, has the perfect crema on top; the milk is so velvety and has tiny air bubbles- yum! The baristas make doing the latte art look easy, trust me, it's not. Food is limited to a small selection of locally-made sweets like doughnuts from Circa and other treats from The Desserterie. Whilst limited, the food is very good and I would recommend getting an old-fashioned doughnut- thank me later! I wish Methodical was either A) in Charlotte or B) had a location in Charlotte, because they could have all my money then! read more

Cool little coffee shop. They do pour overs for all of their orders unless you get a latte or espresso based drink. No syrup flavorings in the espresso drinks. I ordered the Onyx roast yesterday and also got 3 donuts which were good! I brought one home to Atlanta and had it for breakfast this morning and it brought back the good vibes from the coffee house. Now it was a little tough for me to find, but was very cool inside. It is located across from the back door at Mast General Store. The decor was great. I did spend $14.50 for 3 donuts and a cup of coffee, but it was for the experience. If you want to pay less and get great coffee go to in my opinion and equally as good Underground coffee. This is a really cool spot with a loft seating area as well as table and coffee bar seating. There was no written menu of the coffee bar options that I saw, but the barista described the flavors of the three available options to me. I chose the $4 pour over of the Ethiopian coffee and it was delicious. I also really enjoyed the glassware used. Restroom is in the office building lobby behind the guard desk to the left - but you need a code from the baristas. read more

I am from out of town and I came across this coffee shop for the first time and fell in love! It is super cute and trendy on the inside. There are a few different tables and high tops for seating but overall, there is not a ton of space. It would be a great place to meet up with a friend or study. But more importantly, their coffee has a great taste. I got the pour over and an americano. The coffee was super smooth and had a great taste. They also had a few pastries and bites to eat but I did not get to try any. The workers were very friendly and helpful. They roast their own beans and I ended up buying two bags to take home. I have made the beans at home and they are great... I will be ordering more online and I will definitely be back to this little coffee shop. This is my splurge coffee shop, because I don't often go downtown, and they're also a bit pricy, but! They have some of the best espresso I've had anywhere in Greenville, and it makes it worth it to me for a little bit of extra money, and the drive all the way out to downtown. read more

I seriously can't get enough of this place!! The coffee here is so unique and different. I really enjoy the expresso with milk paired with one of their sweet treats (Circa Doughnut or Apple blondie being my favorite) The cold coffee is my favorite drink I've tried so far though. It has such a smooth taste too it! Methodical has the friendliest service out of any Coffee shop in the upstate. Fantastically friendly. I needed something with a little less caffeine and (as it should be!) Methodical doesn't have decaf coffee or espresso so I asked Will to get me something delicious, chai & not too sweet. It was creamy, definitely chai with a subtle sweetness and I completely forgot to ask what it was! (Chai latte I assume.) I also had one of the macaroons that was excellent! And though I didn't have one, I noticed they serve Circa doughnuts, which are amazing! My job requires me to travel all around the country and one of the things I do when I find myself in a new city is find good cold brew. Greenville is one of the cities I've spent tons of time in over the last year and there is one coffee shop I always return to when I'm in Greenville-Methodical. Methodical is what a first rate coffee shop should be: chill, comfortable seating (although it could be a tad more comfortable for a 69 year old back), knowledgeable baristas and OUTSTANDING cold brew. Very solid. Super hipster-y (which I love) with lots of nice touches. They use nice whiskey tasting glasses for their soda water espresso chasers. They use mini snifter glasses for their espresso. They use very nice small cloth napkins. Presentation of espresso drinks are nicely done, placing both espresso and chaser glasses with napkins on a wooden board. The space is small but cool. Note the address (Main Street) is not on Main Street, but instead tucked down an 'alley' that is actually a wide nice public space. The space itself is airy and cool. Espresso was very good, but not 5-worthy. My pastry (cinnamon twisty thingy) was excellent. Keep it up, guys! read more

It was a bit challenging to find if you don't know the area. It's located at the base of the large 101 building, the cappuccino with almond milk was wonderful. Really loved visiting Methodical. I had heard so much about it so my bar was set pretty high and they met it and more! The parking is easy on weekends as the parking garage next to them is free over the weekends. When I walked in, every single person working stopped to either say hello or smile. Coffee shops can be intimidating when you don't know much about coffee but immediately it felt warm, kind, and ip at the same time. Everyone was happy to help and give suggestions. There weren't any seats left inside but we had a nice time sitting out front. I had the tres leches and it was yummy and packed full of espresso. Where science and coffee meet! A rare find in the Upstate. That coffee mint mojito is crisp, refreshing, cutting edge, spot on! If that's on the menu try it. Their coffees are roasted to perfection. You may be able to find it in fancy, artistic coffee bags. I took one home yesterday. I love the coffee and the personalities at Methodical. It has, by far, the most attention to the noble art of coffee in the Upstate area. I love how Will Shurtz makes all customers feel at home and his enthusiasm for coffee seeps out of his pores. The rest of the crew is likewise educated and enthused, but perhaps not quite as lively. In addition to well-crafted pour-overs and espresso drinks, Methodical also offers seasonal coffee cocktails - the summer signature drink consisted of espresso with grapefruit juice and aromatic bitters. It was an inexplicably delicious drink! They also have a cold brew bicycle dispenser, a siphon bar, and they're the first coffee bar I've seen that offers cascara, a tea made from dried coffee cherries. In addition to coffee Methodical features locally-made baked goods--my wife loves the macaroons. I dig the decor - subway tiles, LED Edison bulbs, the leather and canvas aprons the baristas wear, etc. It's a very tight early industrial mid 20th century vibe that feels both modern and vintage at the same time. This contrasts well with the well-stocked collection of vinyl that provides the soundscape for latte art. If you love coffee you need to go to Methodical now. Don't wait. I love that they are starting to get merch such as tshirts and mugs, but it is simply inexcusable that they don't have stickers. This means I'm being petulant and deducting a star from this review until the sticker embargo has ended! I can't rep for Methodical on my laptop with a tshirt! read more

Working in downtown Greenville affords me the luxury of walking to methodical every Friday for coffee. The friendly staff is always ready to serve us and the way they make coffee truly is an art in itself. I always go for the amazing mocha, it's blended with dark chocolate and it very rich in taste but always delicious. It's the perfect Friday morning treat for me. A lot of my coworkers also rave about the raspberry tres leche which is on the menu right now. I haven't ventured outside of my mocha but from their reviews it seems you can't go wrong here. The menu is small which I like, it shows that Methodical does a few things but they do them really well and don't need any other items on the menu. I have yet to try a pastry but they look delicious and I am tempted every time I go. We love this spot and definitely recommend others come and visit such a unique coffee shop. read more

They were very rude twice to me. I am vegan I can not have regular milk , I ordered oat milk and they argued with me saying it was but it was not. They constantly have attitude. If I had an allergy that could of affected me giving me regular milk. I will be telling my friends and family not to come to this location. read more

I had an espresso here yesterday and it was truly awful. A cold, spiced, insanely bitter snifter of disappointment. Actually "disappointment" is too nice of a word. It felt like an assault on my senses. I've had coffee, black (including tons of espresso's) every day of my adult life, and this might have been the worst tasting coffee experience I've ever had. Are all these good reviews friends of the owners? (They seem to know the employees by name) I left here angry. It really did, in some strange way, feel like this was a deliberate attack on my taste buds. Maybe a cruel joke?
