Great vibe and excellent drinks... was visiting from out of town and went out of my way on day 2 to go there again

Great little coffee shop in the middle of a plaza downtown. They've got a really tasty horchata cold brew that's super refreshing on a hot and humid day or if you've got a sweet tooth craving. Brewed coffee is $3 (slightly more expensive) with $1 refills, of which you can try their other brews to find your fav. I'd recommend their Ethiopian which is well rounded and has just the right amount of acidity. This is a great place to study on Saturdays with late hours and a loft with tables and outlets. Only downside is having to grab a code from the counter for the restroom that is around the corner. If you're just trying enjoy your coffee, there's plenty of indoor seating as well as abundant outdoor seating. read more

I've heard quite a bit about Methodical from local friends and decided to check it out for myself. I met a couple friends here and opted for a classic latte, my usual go-to drink, while friend #1 had the mocha and a cute cinnamon pastry, and friend #2 had a chilled rooibos tea. My latte was perfectly done, full bodied, mellowed out with the steamed milk, but still retained the deep espresso flavor, finished off with cute latte art. I can't speak for the mocha, pastry, or tea, but they seemed to be well-presented. I especially like the unique blue willow Staffordshire china dishes Methodical uses to serve customers; it adds a touch of refinement. The baristas were all friendly, knowledgeable and articulate about the drinks, and overall pleasant to work with, both while ordering and afterwards in other conversation. Wifi is free, though it does require a password which staff will readily give you. Due to location, Methodical also shares a bathroom with neighboring businesses, which requires a key code to use. Ambience is modern, trendy (love the cute firefly string lights!!), clean, open, and seems to be mainly populated by college students. When I arrived (on a random Tuesday afternoon), it was decently busy but not too overcrowded. However, I've heard that its popularity makes Methodical incredibly (and justifiably) busy on the weekends. Musical background varied between a 1950s vibe with a retro Billie Holiday album, but later switched to an instrumental electronic beats genre with RUMTUM. If it's not a sunny day, the upstairs will be somewhat dark, but still good for working on your laptop. It may be a tad bit too dark for reading, so you may consider bringing a tiny book light if your eyes aren't good. I personally don't mind, but an older gentleman I saw had his own book light. The only reason this isn't 5 stars is because I personally think it's a little too pricey. I've had equally excellent lattes for a dollar less. (Paid $4.50 for mine today.) Maybe the price is just part of the cost of this particular geographical location, being in downtown Greenville. Despite that, I'd still come here again. read more

This little coffee shop has so much charm and appeal. It's tucked in a little nook off the street in One City Plaza. Since I'm not familiar with the area I did have a little trouble finding it. I ordered a decaf white tea. It was perfectly light for starting the day with a walk. It was served at the perfect temperature and with a tiny little carafe so I was able to enjoy more than one cup full. I would have given the place 5 stars if they had a decaf coffee option. I cannot have caffeine since I breastfeed and my only options were two teas. Luckily I am very much a fan of tea. read more

Smooth marble counter. Clean lines in all designs. This place has style, and it knows it. Classy coffee in a classy environment. I ordered a cortado, like I always do when I visit a coffee shop. It's just enough espresso to get me going with just enough milk to balance it all out. I'm all for an espresso tasting (which these guys do with proper glassware and sparkling water to cleanse the palate), but cortados are just my favorite. Tucked away in downtown Greenville near Sip and Mast General Store, this little coffee shop is doing big things in a small, efficient space. The baristas know the game and they're damn good at what they do. Beautiful people, beautiful establishment, and beautiful drinks. Methodical has everything right going for it. Boasting a small loft level with a deceptive amount of seating, you will typically find the shop full, but open enough for you. It's still one of Greenville's hidden treasures, enjoy that while it lasts. As a multi-roaster coffee shop, they constantly have changing stock with the best beans available. Coffee lovers here!!! And we approve! Tried the Tres Leches latte and boyfriend had the espresso and A house pour over.. fantastic coffee. The atmosphere was cute, very trendy but comfortable for out of town guests.. loved the touch of having records/record playing as the music.. super great songs too. The fancy dishes/cups were a fancy touch that we loved. They have an upstairs that probably seats about 10 people comfortably but we stayed downstairs and sat at the bar. Was a very buzzing place around 10:30 on Saturday. Also! Tried the apple walnut scone and it was the most delicious pairing with my coffee. read more

Ok. This place used to be the best in existance but this time was terrible. I went yesterday. The espresso had not been properly dialed in and tasted like dirt! Also, the woman failed to mention that they were out of sparkling water until after I ordered two espressos!!! Idk if anyone else knows but espresso tastes a lot different without sparkling water. Best mocha I've had in GVL- a smooth and creamy balance of bittersweet chocolate. Nothing sugary or artificial here. I have also tried the tres leches, which is also very good. I find that I feel a much more subtle 'perk up' after having a coffee here as opposed to suddenly being smacked in the face with that uber wired feeling, which I find nice when enjoying a casual cup. If you're into coffee like some are into wine, you'll love it here. Rest assured though, if you're not hardcore but still enjoy quality, you'll feel just as at home. This is because the staff are so genuine and friendly, and I really feel it's a hallmark of Methodical. I've been many, many times, and there simply isn't an "off" day in my experience. They are truly happy to see you, happy to take time with you if needed, and are 100% consistent in making drinks. The space has always been very clean on my visits. Are there any negatives? You're going to wait a bit longer here for your coffee to be prepared. (But don't despair, it's being done right!) It's not a location you can easily dash in and out of unless you live/work/already happen to be walking around downtown. But considering the above... do you really care? read more

I don't know how I've never reviewed Methodical, but alive been here quite a few times. I don't really love it, because to me it's just another snooty, hipster coffee place. But, they have a niche, even with all he other local coffee shops, and people buy into it (literally), so it works. Their coffee to me is just coffee, but they have a whole extensive process for making it that "justifies" the price. Their menu is minimal, and they only have a couple of food items (scones/muffins/etc., though the flavors look so interesting), and they have solid WiFi for those working. It's open and airy and usually has seating available though there isn't a ton of it between the main floor and the loft. It's in a convenient spot next to a parking garage and just off a big square on Main Street, and there's enough restaurants right there to easily step out for a bite. read more

I ordered the siphon, simply a type of brewing, the coffee I tried was Ecuadorean and pleasantly bright. Hints of fruit were subtle but present and all and all very well done. If ordering in one receives a cup of coffee and an extra amount in a mug, the 12 oz. is more than enough. If I had to be picky about it, I'd say methodical coffee needs to be opened later, to 8:00 instead of the quite early, 6:00, though they do have only medium to light roasts so the afternoon would be pointless unless they started carrying some darker blends read more

One of the best coffee shops I've been to in the country...the entire country. I'm an airline pilot that travels all over the United States and I love coffee and have had a lot of coffee in A LOT of coffee shops and for what I like this place does it for me. They roast their own beans and use them in the shop and have them for sale. They are very picky about where the beans come from and the farmers who grow them. The best pour over I've ever had and after one sip I didn't even want to add cream like I usually do. The food options are not plentiful but there are more than enough for most people. Focaccia, muffins and cookies but perfectly elevated. These aren't just regular, store bought items. Dark chocolate, salted cookie??? Holy crap it was amazing! The baristas working there are not pretentious at all and are super friendly and down to earth. You know the kind of assholes at some places that I'm talking about that look down on you if you aren't "they're kind" or don't know enough about coffee and live and breathe it like they do. They are just happy to be there and be making great coffee. It's the only place I will go in Greenville for coffee the next time I'm in town. read more

Just had a really odd experience here. Asked about a drink I often order at many other coffee places(local and corporate) and was told that it wouldn't taste good when I asked if they could make it, not because they didn't have correct products, just because it wouldn't taste good. I was so taken aback by how dumb I was made to feel by the barista that I just panicked and ordered something else. Everyone else was super friendly and the drink was great. Was excited to try this place out as I had read a lot about it before traveling to Greenville. Walked out of my way for 15 minutes to get a pour over and some beans to take home. Walked in at 5:10 pm on a Sunday and the guy said he was closed and couldn't serve me even though there were 10 people sitting in there who had recently gotten something. Methodical website, Google and Yelp all list 6:00 pm closing time on Sunday. I let him know and he was apologetic and nice about it but would not serve me or let me buy beans. Instead he sent me down the way to get coffee somewhere else. Bummer of an interaction for what seems like an awesome place. Methodical has become an evening staple for me.. It is in a perfect location downtown to stop in for a to-go drink. I have tried two of their pour overs and both have been fantastic. You can actually taste the flavors they use to describe the coffee.. Most recently I had Huckleberry, which was delicious. I've also tried their pumpkin spice latte.. It was very rich with tastes of real pumpkin instead of pumpkin flavored syrup. Really good coffee in a really good spot. read more

I really like coffee houses that serve food the best, but you have to appreciate this one for what it is. They are very methodical and focused about what they do. Modern and minimalistic, this place had probably some of coolest coffee brewing and espresso machines I remember seeing, and one of the smallest menu offerings. All sorts of tubes, glass containers etc, not sure if it was antigravity brewing or French press. They don't have S,M, and L, but they do have a way more elite 4.5 oz, 6 oz, and 12 oz. I got the 6 oz late and it was excellent. If you are in to mode for elite coffee and to be too cool for anything else, go to Methodical. read more
