I agree that the salon is not much to look at from the outside - almost missed it when I was heading to my appointment - plus the only way to enter the parking lot is from the side street, so I was pulling a couple U-turns to get in. I was gifted with a certificate and was happily surprised to find an Aveda salon right here in Wauwatosa! I wanted a massage, but they no longer offer them. So, I opted for a new service I've never had before - a facial! I made an appointment for a 90-minute Dual Exfoliation Peel and was paired with Lisa, who is absolutely incredible. Lisa walked me through every step of the process as I was a newbie. Starting with changing into a sarong, slipped, and comfy robe, we did a foot soak and light foot/leg massage. Then back to the private room where I laid on the table. The lights were turned down to a calming level which was nice. The one really off-putting thing in this otherwise calming room was the ceiling - there were HUGE brown water stains on the ceiling tiles that were absolutely disgusting. It's not hard to replace a few tiles, so that surprised me. Luckily my eyes were closed most of the time. Also the music wasn't particularly relaxing with drum beats and chanting sometimes. She started with a "sensory journey" where I got to choose an oil scent I found pleasing out of three. Then she exfoliated my whole face with a nice scrub, really focusing on getting the dead skin layer off and not just "petting" my face with the product. Between each mask I got a hot towel, which was heavenly being wiped on my neck and face. We did a chemical peel (not like you're picturing, remember Aveda is all natural and vegan!) where the cooling part was first, and the second was a nice warming sensation. The facial even including a light neck massage and she did a wonderful job on my arms and hands. The results were shocking - I did look smooth and refreshed, and learned more about proper skincare routines for my skin. I 100% absolutely recommend this salon, this service, and I want to be friends with Lisa - she was so friendly and great! The price tag was very high for regular treatments ($150 for the 90 minute treatment) so I don't know when I'd be able to afford to come back - but they did a wonderful job. They also have a full Aveda shop in the front to stock up on your products, really nice to not have to go into Mayfair or to pay shipping. Buyer Beware! Called for a quote on service and when I checked out it was $57 more . Don't appreciate being lied to and/or feeling like I had been robbed with a smile. Gave the owner/manager an opportunity to rectify this very upsetting experience, but she became defensive, indicating she would "discuss with staff at their next meeting". Really? How unprofessional and inappropriate. I get my hair done faithfully every 6-8 weeks and never need extra product. The stylist begged to style my hair, which consisted of using her hands to twist my wet hair. This was $27 up-charge unbeknown to me! Had I taken a picture of the discarded "extra" product mentioned, I would have posted as it was about 1/3 of a bowl. Clearly appeared to have been dispensed for the extra $$ which wasn't needed or used. Would have given an extra star had I not been taken advantage of. Seems as if it was a communication issue. But the fact remains, when the owner/manager is given an opportunity to rectify and does nothing, says a lot for that business on how they treat clients. #1 attribute in any successful business is customer service. They do, however give new clients a sample "gift bag" which consists of some of the samples Aveda gives when you purchase sets or liters. So to ease my mind, I felt as if I purchased the gift bag. Note: They do offer a $20 coupon on their website to new clients. Thank goodness I remembered or I would have been even more disappointed. The stylist should acknowledge new clients with this advertised promotion. Luckily I mentioned it after the shocking total cost was announced. Diane is a very skilled stylist and fixed 2 other haircuts that I received at the "trendier" boutique in the 3rd ward. The building is not impressive but I don't go to the salon for that so it doesn't bother me. The inside is well maintained and clean. I love that the stylist remembers our discussion, is skilled with shaping and has a knack for natural looking color. After shopping around the area for a professional, I found one here. Also, she is extremely knowledgeable about the Aveda brand and keeps connected with the latest trends in the industry. read more

I was expecting a much nicer place than what I saw when I visited after reading previous reviews. It really isn't so zen and relaxing as people mentioned. But what really floored me was that the towels they use for the manicures were all frayed at the edges. Come on...buy some new towels for crying out loud. The woman that did my nails was nice and friendly enough and she did do a great job. But not sure if I would return since they charge $2 more than your average nail salon and you're really not getting anything special. read more

I've been to Metamorphosis twice now and since it has moved to it's new location in Wauwatosa on North Ave, it is a much more visible salon/spa compared to it's old location in Brookfield - and much closer to me which is awesome! I can only comment on spa services. It is an aveda salon so if you are not an aveda fan well you are out of luck. The spa itself feels intimate and cozy. I can only comment on the spa services. The staff in general was very accommodating and sweet, and never gave any indication of impatience or snobbiness. Had the prenatal massage here which was lovely, just what I needed - the massage therapists are very careful to ask what your needs are and make good recommendations. Massages include a gentle foot soak as well. They did make some recommendations for products but was never pushy. This is a spa with a classic spa feel, you will leave feeling pampered. I also attended a holiday event where they had free mini treatments, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. I enjoy when spas do these so I was sold from that point on. Megan is so energetic and fun and kept my waxing completely professional and as pain free as possible. We'd be mid conversation but she could tell my body was tensing up with pain. I regularly got my hair cut and colored by Diane at Metamorphosis for about six years while living in Wisconsin and always loved the results. Now that I live in Arizona, it has been difficult to find a salon that delivers the same high-end look at an affordable price, so I made an appointment during a recent visit home and of course still love how my hair turned out! Metamorphosis is a fantastic business, with fantastic product lines from Aveda, and absolutely incredible employees. The first time I went, Megan waxed my eyebrows, and did a fantastic job. She made me feel very comfortable during the waxing, and made me feel beautiful afterwards! She helped me find some great foundations for my face, and now I feel great whenever I get ready in the morning. I've seen Erica twice now, the first time for product assistance, and she dolled me up and I looked amazing. She definitely knows what she's doing as an esthetician, and is very energetic and friendly. I recently went in for a facial, and she made me feel completely relaxed, and my skin looked radiant afterwards! She helped me find an acne product line that works, and I can't wait to place my order. Metamorphosis is extremely cute, organized, and very relaxing. I feel very comfortable when I'm there, and everyone is very welcoming. The rooms where I had my esthetic services are very intimate and relaxing. I came here for a facial as a relaxing treat from my mother in law. From the outside it looks plain but from the moment you walk in, you feel the serene, classy and professional treatment that you would experience from any high end establishment. The staff were welcoming and friendly. From the begining, Lisa made me feel so comfortable. My facial began with a foot soak and herbal tea, which was a wonderful way to relax and get in the zone. Once in a very tranquil room we began with a sensory experience of selecting a favorite aroma from three which was used through out the process. An extra with the facial was a choice of any two massages (feet and ankles, shoulders and neck or arms and hands). These extra services just added to an already wonderful treatment. This was value for the money. I have been to many spas and salons and paid double for services that do not meet this bar. I can't say enough about this fabulous experience. I recently had a couples Abhyanga body treatment with a friend. Erica and Megan did an amazing job. It was super relaxing, and a perfect mid-week pick-me-up! If you've never had an Abhyanga massage before, be aware that it is a lot of oil. They remove the vast majority of the oil, but be prepared that it's a lot of oil! You will feel great afterwards! It's in a great location, easy to find, but once inside it is quiet and relaxing. I completely recommend metamorphosis to anyone! read more

I had an Abhyanga body treatment and felt so incredibly relaxed! My friend and I were able to experience the abhyanga in the same room. Megan and Erica did a fantastic job, we're both professional and friendly. The salon and spa are located on a pretty busy street (W North Ave), but you would never know once inside the spa area. I was informed via the phone that they did perms. I decided to get my hair cut to see how I liked the salon before committing to a perm. I was informed by the stylist that they do not do perms because Aveda discontinued their perm solution. I should have just walked out at that point as I was given false information to begin with. The stylist was nice, very simple cut, straight across and used the Aveda leave in conditioner on my hair. She suggested that I use an Aveda leave in conditioner which I purchased from them for $30 for 3.4 oz. (expensive). After see how my hair turned out later that evening, I did not care for the product as it weighted down the curls that I have. I called the salon as I wanted to return the product which I never used. The owner who was very rude and stated that Aveda will not return products, so I am stuck with it. This is not true as I contacted Aveda. The owner does not care about the satisfaction of customer, only how much money they pocket. read more
