I wish that I had investigated this plan more before giving them my money. They cleverly hide the plan until you have signed on the dotted line. It is the usual low-carb diet. I have done the low-carb lifestyle for over 10 years. Occasionally I fall off the wagon and decided to explore something different. I don't have a lot to lose (5-10lbs ) but I want to maintain it. For some reason, I thought that this place would teach me how. The diet is sound and has been working for 100s of people but the staff in this place act like hardcore used car salesmen. They are more interested in pushing the MRC protein powders and supplements than in your well being. They had a 1 hour class in which the lady spent 15 minutes on nutrition info and 45 minutes trying to sell the products and describing the various fruit flavors :-(. Do you really need strawberry/orange/pomegranate flavor described to you? Is that the most pertinent information for someone trying to lose weight? Anyone trying to lose weight knows that emotional support and empathy are important for someone who has been chronically berated by the media for being overweight. Don't expect that at MRC. This place was a huge disappointment- I'd give zero stars if that was an option. They turned my friend away because on his intake paperwork he indicated that he has 'suicidal depression' and he takes an antidepressant. Don't even bother going here if you're depressed because you can't lose weight (who ISN'T depressed if they can't lose weight?) because they obviously don't give a shit. It was good to give an account to the ladies, but they told me that I wasn't eligible for the group meetings because of the discount I was given. LATER I found out that my $99. wasn't a discount price. This was my first time joining a group and I understood that if I left and came back the restart up price would be in the $50.'s ( can't remember exactly what it was), so after being away for 9 months on a trip I tried to come back and they wanted me to pay $99. again to join. I'm feeling ripped off. However, I just visited weight watchers and I had to pry information from the lady leading the group meeting. When I asked her for the prices to join she told me it was all on the sign and obviously she could not be bothered with telling me about weight watchers since it's all on the papers floating around. Metabolic Research helped me lose 40 pounds on their program. I really appreciated the nutritional information and support during the entire process. All of the staff at Metabolic have been great to work with. The program helped me reign in food portions and increase my water consumption. I feel so taken advantage of after experiencing this program. The plan is nothing special - you can go online and type in "low calorie, low carb, low fat diet" and I'm certain the same plan will appear. They keep this program and all of the expenses under wraps during your first meeting and the "pre-conditioning" week. The reason they do this because, per their contract, you only have 3 days to get a refund, so by bringing you in and showing you the actual program and the prices of all the products a week after you sign up, they insure that you are stuck and can't get your money back. All in all, if you buy everything they "suggest" or "recommend" to you, you will probably spend between $500 and $800 dollars... per month. That seems very excessive. Just don't do it. Go online, search for a good dietary guideline, get a gym membership (heck, even a personal trainer would be cheaper), and join an online weight loss community with a forum so you can get some good tips and support from other people who are also trying to lose weight. They are GREAT! So why the 2 stars? Well it started off great but EXPENSIVE! I had to pay 149 dollars (that's on sale!), then when I had to come back for the class and spend ANOTHER 155 bucks for protein drinks, supplements and/or bars. Well OKAY... I was doing good, loosing some weight then gaining a few back, apparently I am one of those people! Then they started pressuring me to buy supplements and drinks, it's hard when you are very low income and your mother and grandma are helping you. BUT they started me on my weight loss journey and they gave me tools that i can use. I couldn't stomach the drinks or supplements so I only took them every other day or so but if you tell them that they'll scold you! If you look at the ingrediants you see maltodextrin, natural and ARTIFICAL flavors, sucralose and soy are just a few. They were nice until someone from another office came and did the interviews... the second to last time i went in the she said to me (exact words) "you need to loose weight faster! 1.75 pounds a week IS TO SLOW. I'd be WAY happier if you got up to 2.0 or 2.5 a week" she was scolding me for NOT LOOSING WEIGHT FAST ENOUGH! I think that if I'm loosing weight AT ALL it shold be good wether if its only .5-2.5 a pound! I was hoping when i went back that I wouldn't get that one lady..... I would be scolded if I ate something I shouldn't have, if I had more then 3 MINTS OR 3 PIECES OF GUM they would scold me, I couldn't even use hand sanitizer with to much alcohol in it! Then they told me I could only have 1 serving of fruit a day! and I couldn't have this or that... Well now almost 2 months AFTER I have stopped going to MRC I have lost an additional 15 pounds after loosing only 15 pounds in 6 months! They really act like they care about your overall well-being, and while they do want you to lose weight, it's only because they have to maintain a decent pounds lost average. They only care about making money off of you. They'll call you if you haven't been in for a week or a few weeks and will even continue to call you if you haven't been coming in for three years because they want your money. If you choose to sign up here, be prepared to spend around $600/month on products, and if you don't spend that money, you can be sure that nobody will actually want to work with you when you come in. They will continue to push products on you that you have declined to purchase before. You're not losing weight fast enough? It's because you're not using enough of their products, of course.
