This place is one of the best in Greektown. Gyro, souvlaki are very good. The restaurant is average size with some booths, small tables and a bar area. The kitchen is in the front of the restaurant which makes the anticipation greater! I went on a Saturday night around 9pm and there was a lineup out the door. The good thing is that the lineup moved pretty quickly as the service is quick. The food came out quickly as well and patrons didn't really loiter. I'm not sure if this is normal or perhaps people were sensible of the people waiting in line. The souvlaki or Gyro In a pita comes wrapped up with French fries inside. The line ups are long still, however I thought the meat had a tangy tastes to it and a bit try. If you're looking for good service and will become irritated easily if you don't, you may not enjoy your experience. Otherwise, if you're satisfied with the fact that as long as the food gets delivered and they come over when you flag someone down, then you should be ok. Take the TTC, get off at Chester, and it's a minute-walk over. Food is good and affordable. Get a gyros for under $6 and it comes with a lot of fresh meat off the spit and soft fries! I typically come here just for it. Another item that I like is the gyros pizza, which is a personal sized pizza with cheese, vegetables, and meat. It's not greasy at all, which provides a pleasant tasting experience since I'm not a fan of greasy pizza. Sometimes they'll try to bring all the food at the same time, so if you order the pizza for example you will end up waiting a bit longer than others that get gyros or rice dishes. Better yet, get both. What else: Come during the Danforth St Festival if you want to wait in line outside for your Gyro for about 47 minutes (minimum). The dinner came with a generous serving of Greek salad and bread with olive paste. I am not a cheese person but I love the feta cheese that was inside the salad. The bread is nice and warm and have good texture.. (my carb craving was satisfied!!) The pork though, we found that a little dried... but still tasty! When I ordered my gyros, I was informed the wait wil be 20 min! And I have to tell you that my gyros really worth my wait. The pita bread ah ah ah...carbs! So I have heard of this place for years but only got around to finally trying it once COVID hit Toronto so there's no dining in review. The Good: We always order the mixed lamb/beef gyros and the variations thereof (gyro meat plates, dinner plates etc). And boy are they delicious! A beautiful medley of meat, tzatziki, tomatoes and fries... yes i said fries. Sounds a little weird, but it completely works! The meat is juicy and succulent, a little smoky from the grill and not smothered in salt. The green salad is fantastic, no lettuce to be seen! Fresh onion, tomato, green peppers, olives and feta, very light on the dressing. Beautiful! The takeout service is excellent. The staff and manager are polite and friendly. My wife has some food allergies, they never give me any issues with requests to omit or separate certain items, which is greatly appreciated here. Messini has ruined me for all other Greek food places! The Bad: Based on my experiences, the only bad thing that I have is not a fault of Messini, the parking on Danforth has always been problematic, but with the installation of the bike lanes along Danforth, the city has eliminated a ton of available parking. So, if you can find a spot be ready to walk. The Ugly: Again, not the restaurant's fault, more of a criticism of the City. They seem to be hell bent on affecting the success of the businesses along the Danforth. Bike lanes in favour of parking spaces is ridiculous. Removing an entire lane of traffic for the bike lanes? This is probably my favourite Greek restaurant in Toronto. It's in Greek Town of course - on the Danforth. This restaurant has been popular and highly rated since I last came here as a teen. From this time around they have reeled in more customers and is in high demand in the evenings! No reservations on some days (if I remember correctly), so you will have to walk in and wait. However, the line moves relatively fast if you're under a group of 5. Service was great! All staff that assisted us were kind and had a smile on their face. I tried calling and no answer. My husband and I stumbled upon this place because we really wanted some Greek food and the reviews were pretty great. The food was good although I felt like the meet was quite a bit fatty. My husband is not a huge fan of lamb so we decided to share the lamb and beef gyro and the chicken one. My husband ended up eating majority of the chicken and I got stuck with the lamb which was really lamby and grainy. Maybe if you really enjoy eating lamb you would have loved it. I was looking for a place to go on the Danforth to have some Greek food and decided to come here after hearing and reading all the rave reviews. I started off with the grilled calamari and I can honestly say it was some of the best I've ever eaten. It was grilled perfectly and with the tzatziki sauce and lemon, it was amazing. I also ordered the chicken gyro, which after reading all the reviews was a tiny bit disappointing. It was still pretty good but I was expecting it to be one of the best gyros I've had - and it didn't really meet expectations. It was a little bit dry, and the chicken didn't have as much flavour as I thought it would. Maybe it was just because I was so blown away by the calamari, anything I ate after wouldn't have compared. Next time I'm back I will definitely try the lamb/beef gyro. The service was great even though it was very busy. I was seated as soon as I got there and my order was taken within a few minutes. This place is one of my favorite places on The Danforth. Keep in mind to come a little early because there is always a line up for both dinning area and take out, but it is worth the wait. Make sure to order the Greek fries which are flat fries topped with feta cheese and Greek dressing. Their food are always fresh and you can't go wrong with anything you choose to order. The rotisseries are right by the front door, tempting you as you wait to be seated. Yes, it gets really busy so you may have to wait for a table. That's how popular Messini's is. The calamari and souvlaki (pork or chicken) are also excellent. Their feta cheese is the creamiest and best tasting that I've had, unlike the dry crumbly variety served at most places. So I ordered online during the covid-19 time, the food itself is great, but the way in which they are serving customers has a lot to be desired. I ordered online, and then I had to wait (not sure how long) outside. The food was then fairly cold. They are only allowing 2 people into the restaurant. First off, you have another side to the restaurant which you could use for online orders, or you can get another pos, and have a table setup near the window. Onto the food, I order a gyro lamb/beef plate, and it seemed to be mostly gristle and fat, either they are really not doing well, or they are using more fat/trimmings then actually meat. Located in Toronto's Greek town, this bustling place has some of the tastiest comfort-y food ever. I always get a double chicken skewer, a side of some of the tastiest rice and Greek salad (which has an insane amount of delicious feta). I've been coming to Messini's for years! And I got to stay that they've stayed consistent! It gets busy here, a lot of dine in and take out orders but they move fairly quickly. I recommend coming on the off hours for dine in if you don't want too long. We waited around 10-15 mins for a table when we went at 6. I always op for the combinations deal that comes with two entrees (gyros, pita, or souvlaki), a salad, and either french fries, roasted potatoes, or rice and it cost $17.95 but I upgrade the fries to greek fries which is $2 extra, they do not skimp out on the feta cheese!! This is a lot of food for 2 people, as they also give complimentary pita bread with an olive spread. This is good if you enjoy olives, otherwise I would skip it as it's very strong in taste! The chicken gyros pita is my go to! It is so flavourful and not dry at all and it has regular fries it in. Here was so much food that had some leftovers to take home. The service here can be a hit or miss, but the last time I went the servers we had were very attentive. Always making sure we had everything we needed and refilled our water despite how busy it was there. The food also came very quickly and we were in and out of the place fairly fast. The prices in the food quality are what make this place. Luckily since both those things are so strong you can kind of overlook how terrible their service is. I will start with the salads, they are delicious, fresh, gigantic and bursting with flavor. They use amazing quality ingredients that somehow manage to take an ordinary salad to the next level. The souvlaki here are amazing (I'm specifically talking about the chicken in this review). The price is incredibly affordable the meat is tender and juicy while being seasoned and grilled to perfection. I can't imagine how anyone could have anything but good things to say about the souvlaki. The only issue we've ever had here was someone who I come with frequently ordered the meat plate. The first time it was amazing juicy Gyro meat, the next time what showed up was burnt ends and some strange meat that was littered with bones and cartilage. This was disappointing and quite frankly gross. My absolute biggest disappointment with this place and to be honest the main reason that I've taken two stars away is that they close down at the end of December until sometime in the beginning of January and didn't bother to put that anywhere besides a sign on their door. They didn't change their voicemail they didn't update their hours on yelp or Google or any platform I was able to find. I think as a courtesy to your customers who do come there from all areas it would've been nice if you would've let us know you were closed rather than just putting a sign on your door People come there assuming you will be open based on your web presence and your voicemail not indicating otherwise only to be disappointed to find that you've close your doors. I came to the restaurant for the first time with a friend and we ordered the lamb gyro & grilled calamari meal with a side of Greek salad, potatoes and pita.
