The first stop we made when I was in town last was Mess Hall, reason being, it's got something for everyone. I'm a big kombucha beer drinker but I can also go for a sour, IPA, glass of Cab or silver tequila. My friends are a little more specific though and only drink beer or only drink wine, so Mess Hall was the perfect place to not only all get what we liked, but also try many varieties/local brands of our own individual favorite styles of alcohol. They also host themed nights, have good bar snacks (i.e. San Diego Snack Co Mexican Chocolate Pretzels), TVs all around to play "the game," and a wide variety of restaurant booth options throughout the rest of the public market style building where you can order and bring your food to the hall to eat all together with your group. The theme here is variety and tons of quality options at that. There's tons of free parking all around the building complex, though I'd recommend Ubering/Lyfting if you don't have a DD because you're going to want to try all the drinks. My favorite options here were the Juneshine kombucha beers, specifically the Midnight Painkiller flavor, though I've tried almost all of them and don't hate any of them. They also have Boochcraft kombucha beers and two other brands i'd never heard of before. The cider selection is larger than I'd ever seen and their beers on tap include a huge variety of local options you'll love. My friends and I all got a different beer, tried each others and had not complaints, though the orange flavored Modern Times was definitely the group favorite. Checkout Mess Hall! It's a group group setting, first date spot, place to watch the game, and so on. This area has so much fun stuff to see and do, If you're a tourist I'd recommend giving yourself time to explore all the shops and food and beverage options. Not insanely kid friendly but not the worst spot to take them either; it can just get pretty loud in Mess Hall. This appears to be the only place to buy beer and spirits in the Liberty Food Market. They do have a very large selection of draft beer and beer and wine to go. The prices are ok but I don't like that they tacked on a 4% covid fee. I know many of these places are hurting but I would rather they just raise their prices. read more

Mess Hall Bar is the only bar in Liberty Public Market... so you really don't have a choice if you want hard liquor or pricing. Been here several times, drinks are made decently. What gives this place a 4 in my opinion is their Bloody Mary. They make their own BM mix, it's thick and delicious with good substance, you can taste some spice of the horseradish and it's not runny. The prices are quite inflated but it's because it's probably the location. The BM or any cocktail will cost you about $15. read more

I grabbed a drink here last night with a friend of mine before we headed to a concert. It's located inside Liberty Public Market. On Saturdays and Sundays they have $6 Mimosas from 9am-11am I believe. I ordered a Market Sunrise $13 which has rum, pineapple, orange, orgeat, and housemade grenadine. It tasted just alright. I usually don't drink alcohol too often for a number of reasons, one being that once I break the seal I'll have to go to the bathroom every 5 minutes haha. Overall, this place is okay. I never write reviews. But, I have been in the industry for 16 years and I have never had such a bad experience. I came with a huge group to celebrate my brother in laws engagement and unfortunately had to experience one of ur employees who was completely drunk or honestly maybe high (on what? Idk! but she was out of control). It started when she creepily walked in the middle of our group, standing there with out speaking to anyone for a good amount of time, got close to my kid made a comment about kids being her silver lining or something and walked away. Which is fine to say honestly, but standing in the middle of our group not speaking for a good amount of time while staring at my kid, was very weird. She was giving free drinks to multiple people saying it was last call (it was 5:30-6:00). Every time we came to the bar she was gone. Then when I came to order and she shockingly was around she was serving someone, yelling at them to "order! Just order your drink" I believe he was a fellow employee who worked in the shops? Either way. If Megan is the manager, for ur business you should re-evaluate her position. Please, honestly look at the cameras. I don't know the names of the girls working but they are superhero's. The incredible, and amazingly patient woman in the pink crop top was handling everyone ALONE! It's the night before thanksgiving and you guys are a business working by the airport. This is a fun bar with a good atmosphere. It gets loud. It's also quite the mixed crowd, so expect to see families and kids sitting right behind you. Be on your best behavior, and don't expect privacy here at all. The servers here are very friendly. However, a couple things: 1) They ever-so-slightly push bottles of wine on you instead of glasses. You feel the up-sell. 2) Their wine selection is a bit thin. I've also been in here three times over the last year, and didn't see much change in their offerings compared to most places. I'm a Cabernet guy, and having tried their entire offering here I was a bit "meh" about all of them. Nonetheless, they aren't terrible. It's just not a wine bar. In fact, I would go so far as to say it's far more of a beer bar. I've got to come back here at some point to experience the beer side of things. I imagine the experience would be better. They boast cocktails like "Sex in the Mess Hall," which is a terrible name for a cocktail hahaha!! I mean I see what they are doing. Sex on the Beach. Sex in the Mess Hall. Ok. I love the location of this place. There's shops and restaurants close by, and gorgeous places to walk around right outside. Major plus! There's also a cooler full of beer you can buy and take to go. We sat in the Mess Hall Cocktail Bar for drinks before exploring the public market. We were able to snag seats at the bar area easily since we came on a Monday evening. I was able to order a citrus bubbly drink - light and crisp - for $5. It was a perfect and bright drink after a long day. I had a bite of my friend's meatballs that he ordered. The meatballs were tasty, but I probably wouldn't order it again. I like all the seating and you can bring in food from the other vendors, esp if it's not too busy (weeknights). The vendors in the public market close early but Mess Hall stays open later. So get your walk on (it's small public market), then hang out at MH for the remainder of the night. read more

So much to chose from! They have very good selections of beers and reasonable for the price, too. I really enjoyed the 2 towns ciderhouse cosmic crisp. Keep note they don't have straws, so they serve it to you in the cups with the lids. My cider was carbonated, so it kept spilling over when I was walking around, haha. Absolutely delicious! I loved my experience here at Mess Hall! The service was fantastic and the food was even more fantastic! I ordered the duck confit and my friend ordered a pie (pizza). Both dishes were so delicious that I would come back and order the same things! As a matter of fact, the pie was the most delicious thing I have had in a very, very long time! It was so full of flavor and the curst was perfect! Overall, we had a great experience. Dinner here can run from $15-$30 a person so it is averaged-priced for a cute hipster place like this. You can order food from the menu and eat at the bar. Part of the area is open to those who purchased their food from one of the stalls in the Liberty Public Market. Drinks were good, mocktails as well as cocktails. I had the fruitiest beer (fruit beer) with my food, Zuchinni croquettes with boschetto and 18 yr balsamic - yumm. Service on a Monday was slow but not intolerable since it wasn't busy and I was waiting on friends. Overall, since the Public Market is fairly small, you can get your lobster roll and have the beer/cocktails at the Mess Hall Cocktail Bar. I will definitely return and try other drinks and food. Hopefully I can do a sit down at the Mess Hall restaurant (which is a small part of the whole area, the other space is for the craft brewery which I can't remember the name). Visited Mess Hall last month with some friends for our monthly ROTM. I was excited to dine here given all the rave about Liberty Stations Public Market. Mess Hall is pretty big and VERY loud. I walked in and was immediately overwhelmed by the loud noise rolling through the walls of the hall. As you take a sit, you can't help but notice the number of people walking in and out of Mess Hall. It appears that Mess Hall serves as a walk way to the market. Therefore a number of people entering are just walking through rather than actually dining there. I wonder how that will work out for them. In reviewing Mess Hall I feel as if I'm reviewing the Public Market as they are so interrelated. I will try to refrain from doing that and save my Public Market reviews for a separate review. The concept of the Mess Hall is cool- the menu changes daily given the fresh produce of the day from the Public Market. I appreciate the collaborative forces that they are employing and feel that other local establishments should aim to do the same. For dinner I had the Pork tenderloin with adobo sauce and cotija cheese on a bed of veggies. It was delicious and a very unique dish unlike anything I've had before. They have a great wine selection with a couple of Mexican wines of which of course I ordered, I opt to support Baja regional wines as much as possible #bajaismysecondhome I must say that the service at Mess Hall started off good with our server being very attentive and pleasant. However, this soon changed when it got a little busier and we were handed off, without notice, to various other servers creating a bit of confusion to the group. I would definitely suggest looking into that :) Lastly- do not dine here if you are hoping for a romantic dinner quiet dinner. First of all, Liberty Public Market is an incredible place and if you ever get the chance to go, I would highly recommend it. The inside of the open market is full of little restaurants, people selling clothing/jewelry/hand-made crafts etc. This particular spot, Mess Hall, is a great place to take a quick pitstop for a beer. I love their selection - they have beers from local breweries (small ones to the larger names) and it's a good mix of IPA's especially. My family and I sat down and tried a few different ones and really enjoyed them all (especially the double IPA's obviously!). There is also a bar that sells mixed drinks, but I have yet to try that spot out. I will soon! The only downside is that the way the room is set up is a little awkward to get to your seat. It's a bit cramped and the tables are all very close together (to be fair, it isn't a huge space to begin with). Definitely a great place to sit after walking around (to either grab a quick bite or beer!). Can't wait to go back! read more

The Mess Hall is located indoors in the same area as Bottlecraft and next to the outdoor patio area. It is a nice sectioned off area where the tables are set with napkins and utensils. The Mess Hall is only open at particular times during certain days of the week - mainly for dinner and then Sunday brunch and roast. The Mess Hall Cocktail Bar is in between the Mess Hall and Bottlecraft and is practically open the normal Liberty Public Market hours. This place mainly uses items that can be found throughout the market. The menu is not set and will constantly change. Make sure to check out their menu... so far, they have some fancy items available. The staff was friendly and kindly explained what the Mess Hall is all about. My disdain for the closure of the grape smuggler is considerable and well documented. I miss the wine bar so much but i have learned to embrace the mess hall, although super crowded and loud, theres a beautiful girl here who can make cocktails like a Mofo, she did an excellent and proper whiskey sour and she makes a perfect cadillac margarita, her name is Erin. So, this place has changed a few times since it first opened. Used to serve food and drinks, now just drinks. But it's great. You can order a beer, wine or cocktail, and get it in a real glass if you're going to stay in the bar, or in a plastic cup if you want to bring it outside or wander around the public market with it. I like to bring my food in and eat in here, or, if it's too loud and the weather is nice -- out on the patio. They also have Happy Hour Mon-Fri 3-6 pm: $6 wine, $5 wells, $4 pints, plus $5 margaritas on Tuesdays, and $6 mimosas and $8 bloody Marys on Sat & Sun 8-11 am. Good times! read more

The Mess Hall was SUCH an awesome spot to have drinks and just mingle with the crowd and bartenders. My girlfriend and I sat at the bar while killing time waiting for our breakfast reservations with the beautiful male bartender approached us with his enthusiasm and welcoming soul. After downing one drink, we told him we'd come back after breakfast and that we did!! He was such a joy and entertainment to have as our bartender. Then Erin came! And introduced us with her love for Lana Del Rey and new drink concoction for us to try, which no lie, was fucking DEEEEEEEEEELICIOUS. The lavender fragrance really hit the spot!!!!!! Super cool brewery place to hang out at! They have such a huuuuuuge variety of beers to choose from and from so many companies. You can either purchase a bottled beer, canned beer, or beer on tap. Prices range anywhere between $1.50-$15 for a beer. It's really spacious inside with high cielings. And you can drink at a table, bar or even outside! Inside the Market at Liberty Station, there are many reasons to visit. There are tons of boutiques, places to grab a drink, and food stands aplenty. The Mess Hall, a sit down place with a great bar and open kitchen, is a great spot for brunch or a drink or to relax with your buds and hang out. The place is spacious and airy, with a relaxed and friendly service that makes the experience welcoming. Menu-wise, there aren't a ton of offerings, but they focus on making their menu items excellent. We came to visit for brunch: For drinks, our table tried the lavender agave mimosas (delicious), the Bellini (awesome) and the kir royale, a French aperitif that is essentially champs + cranberry (amazing). For our meals, we loved the duck confit - it wasn't too oily, and was tender and flavorful. The polenta and roasted vegetables were tasty. The only downer on the menu was the bread pudding French toast, which was much too dense and a bit lacking in taste. Otherwise, from start to finish the meal was great! Price-wise, the food and drinks are a bit expensive. Especially with the density of good brunches around town. I'd still certainly return for a meal! Drinks are reasonably priced, otherwise I would have given 1 star. Staff is unpleasant and most recently one bartender was extremely rude, completely unprompted. We asked about the options for beer and he spoke to us like we were stupid evidently there are multiple options for where to purchase beer from and he knew nothing about the variety they offered once he pointed that out, in fact his exact words were "I don't know, you'll have to look yourself". Completely unprofessional, even for a the casual service industry. Covid times are rough, but you don't have to be an ass, especially if the customer didn't give you a reason to be. read more
