For a true Texas experience you MUST visit a rodeo and Mesquite's is one that's been around forever. I went with a group of friends and we did the VIP deal which came with AYCE BBQ, beer and wine. Honestly, I didn't have high expectations but the BBQ was reallllly good. The ribs, turkey and brisket were fantastic. The jalapeno sausage could've used more snap but everything else was perfect, even the sides. The coleslaw went so good with the pulled pork. I was stuffed !!! We had good stead for the shoe, and it happened to be family night. The crowd was a fun mix of families, couples, friends and people of allllll ages. Many showed up dressed for the occasion which added to the vibe. Watching the young rodeo kids do their thing was such a blast. Kids as young as 4 riding sheep was the best. The barrel racing was fun , the bull riding was wild and intense. Just a great time all around. If you haven't taken the family yet, definitely add this to your list!!!

On the sign they claim that Mesquite is the Rodeo Capital of Texas. I don't know about that, but I can say they hold one hell of a good time. Rodeos are awesome and inspiring and incredibly entertaining. I wish more people went more often.

It's not as large, organized, or fancy as Dickey's, but it's still a good rodeo for the price. Most of the standard competition activities (e.g. steer wrestling, speed roping, bronc riding) are present, along with vendors all around the venue. Be warned that they do not allow any food or even water inside. It's also probably best to order tickets online prior to arriving.

Spent $90 on two "VIP" tickets for a good view of the bucking chutes, ended up with only a good view of a video camera operator's backside. Wrote to their info email address about this a week ago, attached this pic, haven't heard a peep out of them. I think they probably went to the Attila the Hun School of Customer Relations. No wonder they couldn't fill even half the house on their widely-promoted opening night.

It's been 6 years since I first visited the Mesquite Championship Rodeo...but here I was back in the area and since I had such fond memories from my first experience, I was excited to return. Though, this time around...I didn't have as much fun. Let me explain... During my first visit, outside the rodeo arena they had plenty of festivities going on like a musical concert, a petting zoo and walking space to appreciate living life like a cowboy! Unfortunately, during this past summer in late August 2021, none of the pre-rodeo events and activities were happening because of the pandemic. I asked the ticket office where all the fun stuff went, and they mentioned they had to cut things down to simply showing up for the actual Mesquite Rodeo and that's all. This was quite disappointing because for me, I really liked walking around the food tents, grabbing classic BBQ, eating fried dough, making nice to all the animals in the petting zoo, ya know...stuff that they would feature at the Texas State Fair. Instead, all that was gone. So...to come here specifically for the rodeo and skills events just wasn't fulfilling this time around. I don't want to say rodeos are boring but without the fun fair attractions, I was let down. Ultimately, I hung out and watched the rodeo until about halftime before eventually leaving. What won me over the first time was having both the highlights of a Texas Fair combined with a good ole fashioned rodeo making for a terrific combination. But to be here for the rodeo felt like a one-tone note. Oh well, hopefully in the future when the pandemic is over, they'll bring back the Mesquite Fair. Some extra notes... It was $22 for my ticket which was the cheapest they offered. I purchased it online ahead of time which wasn't difficult. It was $10 to park and then combined with taxes and fees it was $39 in total. My $22 seat was off to the side. If I had to compare it to being at a football game it was like sitting in the end zone, not at the 50-yard line. Still, my view was fine and there was no one seated around me. The rodeo started at 7pm but of course I arrived at 6pm when they opened the doors. This way I was able to grab pictures without many people around. Ya know it's funny...I'm a simple under the radar person and coming here to the Mesquite Rodeo pushed me out of my comfort zone (which I believe I've once mentioned, lol) and far away from my daily realities. I just wish I had a straw cowboy hat with me to sort of fit in with the crowds. But I went to Walmart and the Dollar Stores and couldn't find a cheap hat. I believe when I was here in late August 2021 it was the last rodeo event of the season, so at least I got to return one more time, in the nick of time. But without the pre-rodeo festivities, things weren't the same. Anyhow, it was okay to spend a Saturday evening here. The following day I was returning back to Arlington to attend a Dallas Cowboys preseason football game at AT&T Stadium. So, why not come to this Mesquite Championship Rodeo for a change rather than maybe going to see a movie. Alright well this is the Mesquite Championship Rodeo here in Mesquite, Texas.

As a Chicagoan, and someone who is brand new to the culture of Texas and how rodeos work, I was completely freaked out by the show. There were bucking broncs, bull riding, barrel racing, team roping and more. The majority of the show I was nauseous just thinking about how someone (human or animal) was going to get hurt. Needless to say, my favorite part was when 4-year-olds ride the sheep :) Teachers were free the night we attended, so we sat in the $30 ticket section. I would highly suggest choosing this section and not paying $50 for VIP unless you want a lap full of dirt that the broncs kick up. Seating Tip (for the odd # sections): best view of the bulls/broncs is to the left, team roping/other horse activities are to the right, and barrel racing is front and center! The announcer had true southern charm, the clown was hysterical and had everyone cracking up, and seeing some of the people in the audience get super excited made me all the more energized. Although I can't say I would willingly go back, it made for a truly unique Texas experience.

    Inside

I was in Dallas with two friends looking for something to do on a Saturday night. We took an Uber out here and watched the rodeo. Our first time ever going to one. I would say that this is not my kind of thing to do but for the most part we did enjoy it. The people in the stands were very down to earth and welcoming of strangers. That was the best part. The part I didn't like was the children riding the animals. We got to an 11 year old riding a young cow and it bucked him off and stomped on him twice and the child stood up and fell back down to the ground. I wish I had not seen that. I don't think they should have children out there but the adults can make up their own minds for their safety. Anyway, overall it was a well run entertaining night. I won't do it again if there are children participating but I don't want to rank the place low as a result of one thing that I don't agree with.

We had a great time at the Mesquite Championship Rodeo. People were wearing masks, and they're only allowing 1/2 capacity so it's safe venue if you're concerned about Covid-19. Tickets are very reasonable, and it was hilarious watching the little ones on the backs of those lambs holding on for dear life. Great arena and not a bad seat in the house because of the large overhead monitors. Safe and fun for the entire family.

One stayed at the cars -it was the most popular-possibly because there was an attendant there so it looked operational. All other attractions we had to go find an attendant and that was quite difficult. Plenty of employees walking around but none working attractions. We finally found one person and she seemed responsible for all of them. So only one ride at a time could be operated. That is ridiculous since we paid for unlimited and only one closed at a time. Pizza was supposed to be ready at 11:45 -we had 1 sorcerer for more than 30 people! Too much for one person. Pizzas were not delivered until 12:10 and only 2 at a time and were served 2 slices at a time by waitress. We then had to wait to get 2 more pizzas. So we spent A LOT of time waiting for rides and food and very little time participating in the activities. Pizza was terrible -think kid pizza. Not one participant asked for seconds. Worse than Main Event pizza It could be improved with staff! And better food

The same employee was dropping her measuring stick every 2 minutes, handing off her employee phone and stick to a guest waiting to get on the ride to put on her jacket, leaning over the wooden part and telling everyone she was tired and just wanted to go home. Not the energy someone wants to encounter after waiting almost an hour for Fast Lanes. On the same ride, they made everyone move down 2 rows to let a family that wasn't waiting in line pick where they wanted to sit. We were bummed out because we did not want to be in the back and got moved to the back without warning. I do believe this letting families jump the line and pick where they sit is not okay especially for the people who paid extra for fast lanes. After getting bumped to the back row we were disappointed because we'd been in the back row for every ride we had been on and that was our final ride of the day. Also, if you plan to use the app to navigate your day, be cautious of the wait times. Each ride had a different wait time than what we saw in the app, and we ended up waiting even longer than what the app said.

The staff is hit or miss too. A lot of the time it looks like they don't want to be there, but then you'll run into some employees who are actually really nice and helpful. My biggest issue is the Flash Pass. I usually buy the 90% reduced wait time option and it's insanely expensive, but somehow I still end up waiting in long lines even with it, which defeats the whole point. That said, this place isn't all bad, and it's not a 1 star for a reason. The park feels more sanitary now and you can tell they're making improvements to try to make it better. One warning: do not get FanShield, they won't give you your money back. Also, I wouldn't recommend ordering tickets online, do it in person just in case.

Everything is so well thought out: there are eateries where kids can make their own pizza or learn how yogurt is made (and then enjoy it!), a gym, pest control station, bank, fire station, theatre, news set, Spotify recording studio, flight simulator, the list truly goes on. How cute is it to "check in" at an airport security line? I absolutely loved that concept as it was both a clever and immersive touch! However I'd like to think it was meant to function as a real security checkpoint as well, but I did notice that even when alarms went off, people weren't actually checked. Entering a place full of kids, that was a bit concerning. It's a great idea, but I hope they take that extra step to ensure it's not just for show and that safety is truly prioritized. I also appreciated that it wasn't overly crowded during our visit, which made the experience much more enjoyable. From chatting with others, it sounds like that's not always the case, and I can imagine it would feel overwhelming if it were packed. That said, I do wish more of the "establishments" and activities had been open. It seemed extremely short-staffed, and quite a few areas were closed or without staff to guide the kids. I would've loved to see the theatre in use, the taco stands open, and the upstairs space available -all of those plus many others were closed during our visit. For the activities that were open, the staff seemed stretched thin and outnumbered by the children. There really needs to be a better system for timing and scheduling. Maybe a sign-up or reservation system for each activity would help -- running from line to line only to be told it's full (or canceled) gets frustrating. I think that's what the Fast Passes were meant for, but even then, breaking up groups that had already been waiting together felt inconvenient. Allowing everyone to reserve activity times would make for a smoother, more enjoyable experience for guests and staff alike. The wristbands were a great idea, definitely appreciated and necessary. They keep parents and kids honest about ages and ensure kids only join age-appropriate activities. They also track their "earnings" and likely serve as a security measure too, which I loved. However, with the short staffing, there needs to be a better process for scanning them in and out of each area. Waiting for scans, especially on the way out, delayed us from getting to our next scheduled activity several times. The adults only IKEA inspired lounge was a nice touch for those with slightly older children who can run around more independently. For the age group I was with, and given how unorganized the staff and session timings were, there was no way we could've left their side but I can definitely see that space being a great perk for other adults. This is what I could understand adults being charged for, outside of being able to simply get away with it as you can't and wouldn't send your children in unattended, I don't understand adult entrance fees. Other than it being a deterrent for those who do not have children to enter with. It would also be nice for maybe an informative video before entering to make kids aware of "earning" and what deducts from their total points, what's available to do, etc. almost like a "briefing before heading into the city" It's a fun and clever concept overall, but I think a few operational, staffing, and security improvements could make it truly exceptional. No photos to post as they include children. I didn't think to take photos of all of the empty, non operating areas. But again, it's truly its own little city with a variety of places.
